the dating game is never anything to laugh about — so true tried not to snort during the last bout of boring conversation. they purse their lips as her date heads towards the bathroom, eyes wide in that hm, really can't believe this has lasted this long expression, though slanting the mixer towards their hands. "I'll be in charge of your drinks, honey, don't you worry. i got a nice stall in the bathroom where they don't gotta come out if you say the word." a laugh, a snort really, drawing true to cover their mouth briefly. neutral-dark lip gloss shining in the half-dark. they do not envy her. keeping friendships is hard enough. "i think they got radar on you, and you got that nice hair and good jacket. they'll be on you 'til you call it off. i like messy shit, sooo ... you wanna get me in on it, i'm down to boogey." for now, they start on mixing her next drink. for the sour occasion, they go mojito.

The   brunette   let   out   a   sigh.   It   was   best   if   Helena   simply   let   this   person   go   already.   The   bartender   was   right…   her   so-called   date   would   be   on   her   tail   until   she   called   it   off.   ❝   I’ll   probably   tell   them   it’s   not   working.   ❞   Which   wasn’t   a   lie.   Helena   could   be   a   wonderful   liar   if   she   wanted,   but   this   time,   there   was   no   need   for   her   to   do   it.   ❝   No   only   they’re   full   of   themselves,   but   they’re   also   the   most   boring   person   I’ve   ever   met.   ❞   She   let   out   a   chuckle,   turning   around   to   check   if   that   person   was   still   in   the   bathroom.   ❝   I   could   say   yes   to   your   suggestion,   though,   but   I   think   it’s   too   late   now.   ❞   Lena   teased,   letting   out   an   overdramatic   sigh   and   adding   more   flare   to   her   dramatics   by   pressing   the   back   of   her   hand   to   her   forehead.   ❝   It   is   my   fate   to   tell   them   to   go   find   someone   else   to   entertain   them.   ❞   With   a   smile,   Helena   welcomed   the   new   drink   as   it   was   placed   in   front   of   her.   A   mojito,   one   of   her   favorites.   ❝   See,   I   knew   you   were   my   favorite   for   a   reason.   It’s   True,   right?   Your   name?   ❞

as sienna took a sip of her wine, she kept her eyes glued to the screen of her phone. the headlines all were reporting on the arrest of one daniella st. james. she had heard about the events of the festivities from tommy but had still been in new york city at the time. none of them disclosed who was representing her. or who the city would be assigning the case to. but what she really needed to find out was how others reacted to this development. did they believe she had done it? questions were racing in her mind when another joined her in the open seat next to her. " were you at the festival? "

Helena   turned   when   asked   whether   or   not   she   was   at   the   festival.   Usually,   people   started   off   with   a   different   ice   breaker,   but   this   person   apparently   wasn’t   ‘everyone’,   as   Lena’s   mom   would   say.   ❝   I   was.   ❞   The   brunette   bobbed   her   head,   before   waving   at   the   bartender   to   order   something   to   drink.   She   wasn’t   exactly   looking   to   get   drunk,   —   then   again,   she   never   was   —   but   the   last   few   days   had   been   rather   busy,   so   she   needed   to   de-stress.   ❝   But   then   again,   so   was   everyone.   I’m   assuming   you   weren’t?   ❞

“What I meant to say is...” He chooses his words carefully, not because they are difficult, but because they deserve to be unmistakable. He hadn't meant to make her defend the invitation. His hesitation had never been about whether he wanted to go, only how. The idea that she might mistake one for the other, that she might believe she was alone in trying to mend what had been lost, is one misunderstanding he has no intention of leaving uncorrected. “I would like to go. Thank you for going through the trouble of planning this, and for thinking of the clothes.”

At   Christian’s   acceptance,   Yasemin   finally   allowed   herself   to   relax   a   little.   Things   had   always   been   so   easy   between   them   in   the   past,   and   even   though   she   didn’t   think   they   would   go   back   to   being   easy   like   a   touch   of   magic,   but   at   least,   she   hoped   that   some   time   away   from   everything   and   everyone   would   allow   them   to   bond   some   more.   To   fix   what   had   been   once   broken.   Or   even,   to   form   new   ways   to   connect   that   didn’t   exactly   mean   fixing   an   old   bond.   ❝   Okay.   ❞   She   said   with   a   smile   and   letting   out   a   breath   she   didn’t   know   she   had   been   holding   in.   ❝   Okay,   yes.   Let’s   go   to   Catalina,   then.   ❞   An   entire   weekend   under   the   sun   and   resting   by   the   poolside   in   a   resort   would   be   exactly   what   they   might   need.   Hopefully.   ❝   And   please,   you   know   better   than   anyone   that   it   wasn’t   a   problem   at   all.   I’m   the   biggest   people   pleaser   this   town   has   probably   ever   seen.   ❞   Her   cheeks   flushed   red,   but   it   wasn’t   shame   that   Yasemin   felt.   More   like…   shyness   at   admitting   something   so   shamelessly.   ❝   Go   change.   I’ll   wait.   We   have   time.   I   wasn’t   planning   on   leaving   for   at   least   another   hour   or   so.   ❞   She   smiled.   ❝   Yes,   I   planned   that,   too.   I   just   didn't   know   you'd   be   free   before   then.   ❞

she let go of his hands and francis tried his hardest not to be disappointed. they continued on towards the main house of the vineyard, the sound of glasses clinking and a jumple of conversation floating towards them on a breeze. "i'll ask about the cider. surely, they have some options other than wine. i doubt that all people who come here actually drink. other responsible drivers and all that," he snorted. there was a jolt of electricity going up his arm each time their hands brushed, enough to have goosebumps rise on his skin. "i never lied to you," francis hummed after a moment of quiet, "i'm not about to start now." a sheepish grin rose on his lips then, and he shot her a sideways glance. "there's no surprising you, is there?" he pointed to the backpack he was carrying. "it's all in there."

Her  gaze  found  him  when  Fransisco  mentioned  never  having  lied  to  her.  There  were  moments  in  the  past  which  she  wished  he  had  lied  to  her.  Moments  which  she  asked  if  he  ever  thought  of  the  future,  moments  which  she  wanted  him  to  choose  her  instead  of  drinking  and  partying,  but  all  in  all,  Yas  had  always  been  thankful  for  his  honesty.  ❝  I  know.  ❞  Again,  the  brunette  smiled.  She  wanted  nothing  more  than  to  reach  towards  him  and  touch  his  face.  There  was  something  about  the  scar  that  now  lingered  on  his  cheek  that  seemed  to  drive  her  in  like  a  damn  magnet.  ❝  Ha,  you  know  me.  I’ve  always  been  observant.  And  the  queen  of  making  plans,  and  plans  for  my  plans.  ❞  Again,  she  chuckled.  Yeah…  they  would  be  okay. As  they  reached  the  restaurant  area  of  the  vineyard,  Yasemin  bought  some  soda  cans,  two  cider  bottles  and  a  few  bottles  of  water,  stocking  on  the  drinks  since  Fransisco  seemed  to  have  thought  of  the  food.  Again,  they  made  their  way  away  from  where  most  people  were.  Away  from  clinkering  sounds  of  glass  and  the  slight  buzz  of  voices  chatting  over  one  another.  Yasemin  smiled  again  as  she  stopped  under  the  shade  of  a  nice  tree,  overlooking  the  grapes  crops.  ❝  How  do  you  feel  about  here?  The  breeze  is  nice  and  the  shade  is  even  nicer.  Plus,  it  feels  distant  enough  that  we  don’t  get  bothered  by  anyone,  but  still  within  reach  in  case  something  happens.  ❞

They   both   had   made   their   decisions   when   they’d   broken   up.   It   resonated   well   with   Yasemin   and   what   had   happened   between   Fransisco   and   her.   They   had   also   made   their   decisions,   but   as   of   late,   that   decision   had   been   questioning   itself.   At   least,   to   the   brunette.   ❝   Like   I   said,   I   just   want   you   to   be   happy.   With   or   without   her.   ❞   The   brunette   made   sure   to   emphasize   those   two   words   this   time.   Marcus   had   always   been   a   constant   in   her   life,   so   of   course   she   would   do   anything   to   make   her   best   friend   happy.   ❝   You’re   always   so   serious   all   the   time,   it’s   hard   to   tell.   ❞   Yasemin   said   with   a   shrug.   Yes,   she   had   known   Marcus   long   enough   to   know   that   this   wasn’t   something   that   had   started   lately.   No,   Marc   had   always   been   the   serious   type.   ❝   And   no,   I’m   not   telling   you   to   smile   all   the   time,   but…   I   don’t   know,   you   should   try   having   fun   ever   once   in   a   while,   you   know.   ❞

"Tell you somethin'?" He looks at her once and is reminded that she still has that rare ability to make people feel less ashamed of themselves. "I dunno, really." After a drawn out moment, he finally says, "Uh... I lost my nonno's watch. Well, no. This girl stole it. She won't give it back." A beat. "I didn't even do nothin' to her."

Yasemin  didn’t  want  to  press.  She’d  never  been  one  to  do  it  in  the  first  place,  even  if  something  in  her  told  her  that  Niccolo  felt  like  he  needed  to  get  something  off  his  chest.  If  he  didn’t  want  to  say  what  it  was,  she  wasn’t  going  to  be  the  one  to  make  him  do  it.  ❝  Just  because  everyone  is  also  going  through  something,  it  doesn’t  mean  you  can’t  talk  about  how  it’s  being  to  you.  ❞  The  brunette  stated  from  the  kitchen,  before  making  her  way  to  the  living  area,  finding  Nicky  there.  ❝  I’m  not  going  to  ask  more  questions,  but  if  you  ever  need  to  talk  about  things,  anything  at  all,  I’m  here  for  you,  okay?  Even  if—  ❞  Yasemin  caught  herself  thinking  about  not  being  with  Francis  anymore.  Even  if  they  weren’t  together  anymore,  that  didn’t  change  how  she  felt  about  his  siblings.  Or  the  members  of  his  family  who  had  always  been  so  welcoming  to  her.  ❝  Anyways…  I’m  here.  ❞  She  pressed  her  lips  into  a  thin  line,  curving  them  into  a  little  smile  as  her  hands  squeezed  his  gently. ❝  Someone  stole  your  nonno’s  watch?  ❞  Yasemin  chuckled  softly.  ❝  Now  you’re  making  me  think  you  know  this  girl.  Should  I  go  up  to  her  and  pull  her  ear  to  make  her  give  you  back  your  watch?  ❞  She  said,  teasingly  of  course. 

Modeling.   It   was   nice   hearing   her   friend's   interest,   especially   at   a   young   age.   Perhaps   in   another   life   she   would   have   pursued   being   a   stylist,   open   her   own   salon.   She   could   still   do   it   now   if   she   wanted.   Maybe   her   career   could   change.   Turning   her   attention   back   to   Yasemin's   words,   she   nodded.   ❝   It's   amazing   what   the   brain   can   do   in   any   situation.   The   fight   or   flight   response.❞   it   was   getting   your   body   to   cooperate   with   it   sometimes   that   was   the   struggle.   The   effects   of   exhaustion   hitting   after.   ❝But   I   understand   what   you   mean.   In   most   cases   we   know   what   we   have   to   do.   Know   what   to   expect   and   to   prepare   for   all   kinds   of   situations.❞   She   could   already   feel   herself   relaxing   as   she   spoke   with   Yasemin.   Arisa   was   grateful   to   have   a   friend   like   Yas,   someone   who   understood   her   better   than   most   people.   ❝Ah,   see   that   is   cool.   I   bet   you   were   very   popular. ❞    she   teased.

She   was   familiar   with   crying   for   strangers,   and   she   knew   Yasemin   did   as   well.   As   Yasemin   starting   talking   about   Rhys,   she   could   see   that   even   though   her   friend   didn't   know   him   that   well.   She   had   a   good   heart,   seeing   the   good   in   others.   Arisa   could   tell   from   the   way   she   spoke   about   him,   that   he   was   special.    ❝   He   sounds   like   he   knew   how   to   treat   a   lady   the   right   way.   I'm   sorry   for   your   loss   Yasemin.❞ and   it   was   a   loss.   Too   many   good   people   leave   this   world   day   to   day.   When   she   mentioned   Ryker,   she   paused.   ❝   He   was   also   a   gentleman.   He   took   care   of   others,   and   had   a   very   loving   grandmother.   He   was   the   kind   of   person   who   put   others   before   himself.   Someone   that   knew   how   to   make   you   laugh.   It   was   easy   to   talk   to   him,   and   he   had   a   nice   smile.❞   she   was   quiet   for   a   moment   before   she   gave   Yasemin   a   smile.

❝Oh   but   I   want   to.   I'm   going   to   make   you   something   regardless.❞    she   chuckled   with   a   knowing   smile.   She   couldn't   have   Yasemin   making   all   the   things   here.   This   was   her   roommate,   and   she   would   help   out   as   well.   ❝That   is   music   to   my   ears,   cause   I   don't   want   to   go   outside.   Indoor   date   sounds   much   better.❞   she   poked   Yasemin's   cheek   in   return. ❝   We   could   watch   a   new   show.❞ 

No,   she   wouldn’t   say   that   she   was   that   popular.   Yasemin   had   always   been   a   quiet   and   shy   person,   and   in   that   business   you   had   to   either   have   stellar   management   or   be   more   proactive   than   most.   In   her   case,   she   was   neither.   She   was   naive   and   trusted   too   easily,   which   resulted   in   her   living   with   that   horrid   man   for   ten   years.   At   first,   it   had   been   in   search   of   a   dream,   then   it   began   a   search   to   fill   the   void   Fransisco   had   left…   In   the   end,   it   was   just   horrible.   ❝   Maybe   if   I   were   as   gorgeous   as   you,   I   would   have   been.   ❞   Yasemin   said   sweetly   as   she   wrapped   her   arms   around   Arisa’s   middle   and   snuggled   up   to   her   friend.   ❝   I   don’t   know.   I   think   that…   to   this   day   I   keep   chasing   dreams   that   weren’t   mine.   ❞   And   she   didn’t   even   know   what   was   her   dream.   It   didn’t   have   anything   to   do   with   her   career,   that   was   for   sure.   Yasemin   wanted   a   family.   One   she   never   really   had   the   chance   to   have   fully. ❝   You   know…   I   think   that   being   surrounded   by   people   who   are   easy   to   talk   to   is   probably   one   of   the   best   things   in   the   world.   ❞   Rhys   had   been   easy   to   talk   to,   Arisa   was   easy   to   talk   to,   Christian   had   been   easy   to   talk   to   one,   too…   and   then   there   was   Fransisco   Santoro…   one   of   the   easiest   people   to   talk   to.   Still   was,   actually,   which   was   sometimes   confusing   to   her.   ❝   Hopefully   we   won’t   feel   like   this   for   long.   ❞   Hopefully,   the   what   ifs   would   fade   into   the   background   and   give   way   into   hopeful   moments.  When   Arisa   accepted   her   suggestion,   Yasemin   opened   a   smile   at   her   friend.   She   gave   the   nurse   one   more   little   squeeze,   before   letting   go   of   Arisa   to   climb   out   of   the   bed.   ❝   I’m   up   for   it.   What   show   do   you   have   in   mind?   Something   very   silly,   please.   ❞   Yas   chuckled   softly.   ❝   I   think   I’ll   make   us   some   focaccia   bread.   Don’t   worry,   we’ll   have   popcorn   while   the   dough   rests   and   bakes.   Besides,   after   that   breakfast,   I   don’t   think   you’ll   be   hungry   for   a   while,   right?   ❞

If   there   was   something   that   Yasemin   had   always   enjoyed,   it   was   when   people   tried   their   best   to   be   nice.   Whether   they   were   hotel   guests,   customers   in   cafes   and   restaurants,   or   simply   strangers.   Perhaps   that   was   one   of   the   reasons   she   had   liked   Victoria   so   much.   ❝   Alright,   you’ve   got   yourself   a   date.   ❞   Yas   replied   with   a   smile,   double-checking   her   schedule   before   setting   that   period   of   hours   as   busy   in   her   phone   calendar.   ❝   Lunch   will   be   on   me.   Any   restrictions   I   should   know   about?   ❞   She   asked,   already   excited   for   the   possible   future   appointment. When   Victoria   mentioned   her   years   of   practice,   Yasemin   bobbed   her   head   as   she   followed   the   thought   along.   ❝   Right.   I   don’t   think   anyone   is   born   with   talent—actually,   scratch   that.   I   think   a   very   small   number   of   people   do,   but   most   of   us   do   what   we   can   with   the   lemons   we’re   given.   ❞   She   chuckled   at   her   own,   half-assed   analogy,   before   continuing.   ❝   I’m   glad   you   kept   practicing,   though.   Especially   because   now   I   get   to   have   your   work   covering   one   of   the   worst   periods   of   my   life.   ❞
