Henry furrowed his eyebrows and gave Aeternus a shameless look-over now that he had been given permission to. He didn’t see anything out of the ordinary— maybe a bit paler than normal but not as pale as himself. He shrugged and shook his head, “You may talk a lot about livin forever, but you don’t really look any different from normal people.” He then tilted his head, his heart beating a little faster at his next question, “You got somethin to hide? Somethin you don’t really tell other people?”

AETERNUS felt the way the other’s heart began to beat faster. Despite the fact that Henry seemed to be trying to rationalize all of this, his inner workings seemed to just know. It was amusing to watch and yet he just gave the other a bit of a shrug, as if teasing the other.

DARTH Crix had been sitting in this cave since the fall of Empire. Waiting to see if anything would stir back to life. After all, he’d known that Sidious was not one to go down so easily. He’d been in a state of meditation. Feeling the movement in the force. The good and the evil. The inbetweens. He’d come to learn that Sidious had a grandson. A boy with hair who seemed to be touched by fire and who’s cheeks seemed freckled with stars. He’d been watching for quite some time -- watching as he grew stronger each day in the force and with the help of the Princess now Senator Leia Organa, of course. How lucky was he?

NOW though, he’d managed to get into the boy’s mind. Not drastically and merely showing the other hints of his location to him. He knew that he would come searching eventually and now he felt him -- heard his foot steps upon the floor. Crix let his eyes fall slowly open when the movement and sound stopped. There was a ghost a smile upon his lips.

Henry wasn’t used to someone getting straight to the point with him like Aeternus was doing. He almost clammed up like he’d do with Tallulah when he didn’t want to have a conversation about her with stuff he didn’t care about , but he nodded and shrugged at him, “I guess yeah, it has somethin to do with me. Everything to do with me, actually. And, yeah… I can’t be out here with the sun.”

The conversation was making Henry uncomfortable and to cope he put the palm of his right hand over his left forearm to rub at the scar that was hiding underneath his clothes— a habit he had when he was nervous. “You talk about life as if you’re gonna live for a long time. I guess that’s a good outlook on life to have rather than waiting until the time you die. Never really thought about it that way before.”

AETERNUS was the type of creature who only played games when he wanted to play them. He was perfectly capable of being concise and to the point and that had been exactly how he’d been with Henry. He noted the slight spike of heart rate. The shift in demeanor. Had his bluntness unsettled him? It wouldn’t have been the first time, honestly that Aeternus had done such a thing, but it was certainly the first time he actually cared about it.

“It’d take you a lot more than a lifetime to see everything the world has to offer, I’d think.” Henry also wasn’t sure how one gets to space besides a rocket that astronauts take, but then again it wasn’t something he had really researched before.

Aeternus’ question caught Henry off-guard, which was to be expected in a way. He opened his mouth to respond but he didn’t really know what to say… Henry never stayed long enough anywhere to understand when he’s overstayed his welcome because it was an uncomfortable topic anyway, and he had hoped he didn’t give that impression to Aeternus either. The more he thought about it, the more he had really enjoyed Aeternus’ company, and wanted him to stay.

“I wouldn’t believe you, no,” He said truthfully— it’s not like he had the best rack record with people around his own age, “But I’d like for you to stay. Even if we don’t really talk about anything… if that’s okay with you.”

“DEPENDS on what you consider a lifetime, I guess.” Aeternus said with a bit of a shrug. He’d leave it all to Henry’s own interpretation. Yet it felt weird to almost be warming up to the other. Something he hadn’t felt in well ... since before his turn. He’d felt this sort of numbness. Seeing humans as merely a means to an end. Sustenance for his own being or things to toy with when he was bored, so why did this feel so unique when he’d lived for so long.

“I’ve read that it takes a while for stars to die, but also that since stars are so far away in the first place that a star we could be lookin at now is probably dead or currently dying by the time the light reaches Earth,” Henry said, realizing he had been babbling a little bit, “Space being so… big is still kinda hard to wrap my mind around.”

Sitting on the bench, he pulled up one of his legs to hold onto his folded leg before resting his chin on it to see the starts reflected on the surface of the lake not realizing that Aeternus had been looking at him. “Thanks for… bein here with me even though you don’t have to,” he said quietly without looking over at the other man, “Melinda and Arthur have good intentions. You don’t have to stay if you don’t want to, I’d understand.”

FUNNY how Henry somehow managed to get the point, but also missing the point all at once. Perhaps now Aeternus was just playing games, wondering how long he could drag this out before Henry started asking the real serious questions. Then again, maybe he was just being polite to not ask such invasive questions. Whatever it was, Aeternus couldn’t be too sure yet.

“MAYBE one day I’ll go to space. I’m sure one day it’ll be the only place I haven’t been.” Then he sighs, the thought of that, having nowhere else to go that he hadn’t laid his eyes upon is almost depressing. Yet the world is always changing he reminds himself. Empires rose and fell all of the time. He could only wonder what this place might look like a hundred years from now.

Curse words weren’t necessarily foreign to Henry, he just never found a good time to use them. He winced a little when Aeternus asked where they would go besides the shitty diner as he put his bag back on his shoulder and waved goodby to Arthur as they left.

“Well, the only other place that I go that’s quiet and no one else is around is the lake,” he explained as he led the way behind the shop and along a trail, “Don’t do much there except swim when it’s real hot durin the night.” Naked, he said in his head but he felt heat rising to his cheeks. “It kinda just feels like a place I have all to myself.”

It didn’t take too long to get there, and soon they were surrounded by the soft sounds of the water lapping at the rock-sandy shoreline and all sorts of nighttime bugs. There was a picnic table a few yards from the shore that he sat down at then looked up to the sky, “I’ve been lookin up here for constellations for a while now.”

THE indication that Henry seemingly wanted to be alone with him didn’t go ignored, but Aeternus certainly didn’t comment on it. He just followed and listened to all the male had to say. His brows raising as the other mentioned swimming in the lake, the smell of flushed blood reaching his nose despite not being able to see his face. Interesting.

HE took in the sights upon arriving. He spun in a circle, looking up to the clear stars from here before giving a half smile. “I can spot plenty from here.” The vampire said before moving to sit down with Henry.
