Shaping the rails. We all know how important the step of shaping the rails is. How the rails are shaped will affect our surfing performance. Today, I want to show you a quick video on how to shape the tail, so we don’t loose the sharp edges. During the process of shaping our surfboard, we have to be really careful in this area, and now we are at the last step of the all process. I consider really important to be relaxed and not anxious, so we don’t screw up all the work already done. Here I show you a technique of small pushes with the sander using a soft pad, so we don’t touch the sharp edge, and at the end we make the round corner, always pushing down, never going up. It is important to hold firmly the sander and don’t push hard, always gently. Thickness Measurements, The normal thickness measurements in surfboards are made on the blank, before and after lamination. (And many times in between 😬 I like to doble check) How I measure the thickness of a Surfboard? The best way I found is using a pair of scissor calipers. Calipers are used for measuring surfboard thicknesses, and this one in particular give you the measurements straight away, which saves you a lot of time during the process.
