Better Than You

“This is bad, right? I look like a friggin’ Dilbert comic.” Staring into the department store mirror and doing a little spin, as if to model the shirt and slacks, Cedric gave something of a sigh, nostrils flaring. The recent promotion into upper-level management had left the young man with the need to look serious, authoritative, like he knew what he was doing. But that also meant daily ties and proper shoes and all the sorts of things he generally hated to wear. And for the moment, he largely just looked like he did not know how to dress himself. “It’s too big. I look like I’m going to eighth-grade prom. Hey, this looks bad, right?” @chicagcstart​

Elanur was used to working with some of the wealthiest people in the country because her job wouldn’t exist without them, and while she appreciated everyone who hired her as their bodyguard she was allowed to be annoyed by some of them. Protecting people and getting along with them were two separate things for her. This time around, she was hired by Wei San, or San. The man was a Chinese businessman who had amounted some serious bank. She respected him, but his son was hovering over the entire meeting and really getting on Elanur’s nerves. When the six month contract was signed and the man left, Elanur turned to the kid who wasn’t actually a kid and made a face. “Are you always like a fly on the wall?”

“I can afford quite a lot, actually,” she looked up at him, giving a small tilt of her head. 

“Actual baby. She was six months old.” Cassi smiled. “Cutest little thing. Chunky little legs and everything.”

“What do you want?” Brows rose on the redhead, giving a small tilt of her head. “The least I can do is coffee and food. At least once I’m able to put all these in my bag. Then I have two hands again.”

“And then he told me that he thought it was sensible that I had ordered the salad,” Halle said,  pulling a disgusted face before she took a sip of her champagne. “As if I give a rats ass about his opinion in the matter. I eat what the fuck I want. So, I ended up just leaving when he went to the bathroom. I’d known from the first sexist joke he made when we sat down that I’d be daydreaming all night of whacking him over the head with the wine bottle. So I had to make a quick escape before dreams became reality.”

It was just the start of the new semester and Athena felt like she was already hitting the edge. Taking a class to learn how to talk to patients seemed pointless to her in the field she was aiming for, but it was required. Carrying her books to the closest coffee shop, the redhead wasn’t paying attention as she walked straight into the door. Quickly backing up, Athena gave a small groan, rubbing her forehead as she looked around. “Can we just keep it between us this happened?” @chicagcstart​

“We literally had the cutest baby come in today for her shots, and she didn’t even cry or anything! I think her mother was more shocked than I was.”

The fact that he teased her about her balance, instead of looking shocked or horrified of her profession had her grinning. She was liking her time with Yichen already, and personally she wanted to keep talking to him. So the fact that he didn’t seem the least bit bothered by the fact made her happy. “Well thank you, maybe you’ll have to stop by sometime for a private dance…I’d be happy to accommodate that.” Paris smirked, a lustful gleam to her eyes as she said it. Listen, let’s be real, she really wouldn’t mind the opportunity to get to dance on the man walking her home. The vibe she was getting from him certainly didn’t make the possibility seem too far fetched, and definitely not the looks she’d caught so far. “And yes, they usually are…hell I usually am but tonight you caught me at a bad time.” She laughed. “If you don’t hate me after tonight, I might have to call you more often to walk me home, seems like you’re one of the safest to be with.” Frankly Paris was flattered that he was offering to protect her in a way, even just after meeting each other. “I’m flattered I’m already in that category…hopefully I don’t drop out of favor too quickly.” She smirked with a teasing air. “Oh of course, I’d much rather spend my night with such a handsome man who can also hold a conversation. The accent isn’t too bad either…and the possibilities of what the night could hold are quite enticing too.” Paris grinned, eyes falling back on him again as they walked. He really was dashing.
