(posted 9/19) Hi y’all. I know most folks on this site are probably reeling from the loss of Ruth Bader Ginsburg. If we want to preserve rights for women that she fought for her whole life, we need to follow her lead and mobilize.

At this point, the only real hope for escaping a 6-3 conservative majority on the Supreme Court, absent Biden winning in a landslide and packing the court, is if four Republican Senators stand up to Mitch McConnell’s double standards and maintain the precedent that the Republicans followed in 2016: not voting on a Presidential SCOTUS nominee in an election year.

Is McConnell’s “election year” rule a hundred percent fake? Yes. Do I hate that we have to play ball on this shitty, institution-shattering court that he’s set up? Yes. But McConnell & co. robbed Barack Obama of his SCOTUS appointment in 2016. There should be one more Dem judge seated than there is right now, and this is our only chance to keep the playing field even remotely equal.

If you live in one of the following states, please call these specific Senators right now and plead them to go against McConnell. I really can’t stress enough that this may be the only path to stop the Senate adding a THIRD Trump appointee in four years. I have included scripts and phone numbers to make this as quick and easy as possible. It will take you five minutes, less, and there are never as many callers as you think there are. Your voice could make an actual difference.

No matter who ends up in the white house in November, it’s equally important, if not FAR MORE IMPORTANT who ends up in the Senate and the House.

Nothing gives me more hope right now than the phrase Senate Majority Leader Liz Warren. If she can’t be our president, then goshdarnit, let’s give her the next best thing.

No matter how progressive the president is, the senate republicans will sit on every last bit of legislation and do nothing as our country continues to fall apart. Mitch McConnell has effectively said exactly that, while Trump has gone yammering on about the “do nothing democrats.” This has got to stop.

If we actually want anything to change here, we need to win back a complete congressional majority. One that will enact the legislation we’re all so desperate for. Even if your district is already blue (like mine is), even if your senators are already quality democrats, there are a lot of vulnerable republicans running in other districts/states that really need ousting, and a lot of excellent democratic candidates who desperately need our collective support.

Yes, vote blue no matter who for president, but even more importantly, it’s not the president with whatever grand platform they’re running on who will be writing and passing legislation. Even if Biden is our nominee-- running on a do-nothing platform, essentially-- flipping the senate blue could potentially drive forward a LOT of incredible, beneficial change. Even if Bernie is our nominee-- running on a platform that many have dismissed as impossible to achieve-- if we don’t flip the senate and support every congressional democratic candidate, then it absolutely WOULD be impossible to achieve.
