Hero: “Sometimes when I’m in a crowded building I get the sudden urge to just boop a stranger right on the nose. But I don’t do it, because that would be super rude and weird. Does having that compulsion in the first place make me just as much of a weirdo as if I had acted on it? Maybe it does in your eyes, but to the would-be boopee, it makes all the difference in the world.”

The dude built up his entire clan basically from the ground up in less than 3 months. After loosing his brother, parents and golden core all in one fell swoop.

He was in a terrible place when he started. Even if he "regained" his golden core he still was rebuilding the clan/sect all on his own. His sister couldn't even be by his side because it was too dangerous.

He rebuilt the entire thing in 3 months enough for him to be a key player in the Sunshot Campaign. That's really impressive.

And then he finally found his lost brother! :D

Aaaaand everyone started saying Wei Wuxian doesn't respect him. And that he's a bad leader.

Thing is, he's hearing this from other leaders who are all Adults™ and he's a teenager, he can't just talk back. He's had respect for adults instilled in him since before he could talk. (and unlike Wuxian he actually learned the lesson)

Either way, I feel like these clan/sect leaders are poking at his confidence because they're afraid and jealous. Can you imagine Jaing Cheng's power if he didn't have the entire leader branch telling him he isn't respected by his powerhouse of a brother and right-hand-man? Can you imagine a self-assured Clan Leader Jaing? The power the man would have?

Of course the other sects were scared of him. And with smooth talker everyone's favorite Wei Wuxian by his side...yeah driving them apart was in the other clan leader's best interests.

How convenient then that Wuxian started down the dark path and was protective of the remaining Wen family. How easy it is to hate someone who's doing something so gruesome as rasing and controlling corpses. When he's so cocky about winning something that it's easy to put words in his mouth that he's never actually said.
