I hope that people give it a chance, even if it goes a bit out of the way. Still, what is more Anne Rice than to just go backshit crazy out of the way hahahahaha.

A Deal of Consequence (Vol. 2) — Chapter 19

The penultimate chapter of the series is here! Akasha has arrived on Night Island, and the Unholy Family must at last confront the red strings of fate slowly choking the life out of them.

It was always meant to end here, from the moment Claudia chose to live in Paris, and there is no escaping the consequences of that anymore.

EXCERPT: “I do hope I don’t have to tell you to knock her ass out if you have to,” Louis pushes back before jerking his chin down towards Claudia. The girl takes a few steps closer towards Lestat, flanked by Mael to her right. Maharet is only a few steps behind them, as is Pandora, who more so hides in Maharet’s shadow. Daniel glances around, looking for Gabrielle, but the woman is nowhere to be seen. When he whirls back, he notices her standing behind the old lifeguard stand. A head peeks around her, Sybelle’s, and Daniel reaches out a hand to touch Armand’s arm. Benji’s head appears next, soon followed by a weary but panicked Jesse. Armand’s grimace appears, darting his eyes between his children. Sybelle meets his gaze, and her soft, ashen brows lift. Words fall between them, and Armand’s grimace relaxes as he lets out a long and frustrated sigh. “It’s a front row seat or nothing, huh?” Daniel guesses to him, and Armand nods slowly as he turns his back to them. They’ll stay back there, Gabrielle says she’s gonna watch them. Louis thinks to them both. So long as we add Lestat to the list of idiots to knock out and kidnap. He pauses as he looks directly at Armand. Can you even knock Lestat out? “Assuming he’s fed from the Queen as Claudia has, I don’t imagine I would have the strength for both,” Armand manages rather hoarsely. The look Louis and he share is weathered by nearly a century of irony, now leading them back to the same fundamental choice. One or the other, not both. Louis’ face goes blank, all of their faces do. Additional feet hit the sand, surrounding Lestat, as fate knocks all too knowingly on their door.

A Deal of Consequence (Vol. 2) — Chapter 18

The Unholy Family comes home, and what follows is hardly a reunion.

Night Island has never felt smaller. As Akasha's herald returns to deliver the terms, the family fractures in real time. Some people are safe, and some people are not. Love can't buy them eternity after all, but a little bit of faith goes a long way as divinity walks the earth.

A goddess walks out of the seafoam. A coven doesn't know if it's burying its dead or planning a war. Poor Daniel Molloy is counting heartbeats in the dark. A good reporter doesn't miss a scoop, and our Daniel Molloy isn't about to let the place crash and burn without a fight.

EXCERPT:

“You piece of shit, I have been calling you nonstop for days!” Daniel is at his side in a second, and Benji squirms out of the way as the men embrace. “I’m sorry, mera pyaara,” Armand muffles into Daniel’s shoulder. Fingers trace along his spine, and Armand’s eyes flutter shut as he deeply inhales the familiar scent. Daniel claps him on the back once, pulling away just far enough to look him over. Fretting, as he always did, and oh, how Armand preened at the sight of it. “I didn’t want to call unless I could give you the news you wanted,” He adds faintly, and Daniel’s expression shifts in severity. His hand moves from Armand’s back and winds along his shoulder. Silver brows knit together. His thumb traces over still-healing bruises along his throat and a rather severe cut on the underside of his jaw. Lips purse, and brows eventually lift as his beautiful lilac eyes begin to dampen. “I’m okay,” Armand lies on instinct, but he’s met with a disapproving glare. “She didn’t⸺“ Daniel starts to ask, and Armand feels his head moving before he can even think about it. “No, no, of course not. I wouldn’t be here without her. None of us would have survived, and we would have found ourselves like Marius all too quickly.” “Miss Maharet said Marius was dead,” Benji echoes from behind them. Armand straightens, turning to glance down at the boy, who mercifully seems to have Louis standing behind him. A careful hand on his shoulder. “Yes, he is. Claudia killed him.” Benji is owed the truth, particularly in this. As much as Armand might want to spare him from it, he should feel at least the morsel of security afforded through that. “She didn’t want him hurting anyone anymore, so she took care of it.”
