Happy #juneteenth to all those out there who #suffered #oppression at some point in their life. As a white person, and a child of two #socialworkers this is all new to me. You see, I am a person who has not suffered oppression other than at work where I could freely leave. I always existed in environments where I not only could grow, but I was encouraged to do so. I am unsure as to whether or not I am celebrating others properly. I am an #earlyadaptor an #innovator a #leader and so I would like to share my #apprectiation of cultures that have been #pusheddown and #controlled for decades. A feeling I #despise. I #believe in #adaptation #change #evolution. When life changes, I change with it. And so, here are some lessons I’ve learned from my friends. These are examples of how to #overcome strong forces of #opposition. I learned to enjoy the smells of a healthy relationship, as represented by my native flowers. An appropriately positioned posture as demonstrated by my computer paper holder contraption for writing. Thoughts from people famous in their culture as illustrated by the great poet, Nikki Giovani. And finally, laughter and perspective as stated by the 16 lessons I learned after 50 posted at Jimmy John’s. #writer #author #mom #friend #lucky https://www.instagram.com/p/CfCQqXKLo2t/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
