I'm definitely middle aged now, but I still get my parents trying to give me life advice about things that they don't necessarily know much about. (Sorry, kids, it doesn't always get better on that front, but at least this is just on a phone call from across the country, so I can mostly just ignore it.)
In this case, it was concerns about our recently purchased EV and how we need to make sure its always charged up in case of a disaster since it might take too long. (You know, in a disaster, a car with an empty gas tank also might be a problem.) They've been skeptical ever since we mentioned we were thinking of buying one. I'm not sure if they're just being old and not liking change, they don't understand how an EV could work for us even though we live in a city and they live in a small town so it's not the same conditions, and how much is MAGA background radiation messing with their brains.
I also once again got to listen to my mother go on about how I really need to have a second car for taking my kid to school (we do have a second car, I just don't use it most days). We live within walking distance of her school and my office, so an ebike works just fine for us most of the time. Last year I did occasionally drive her to school when the weather was bad, but then I had to drive back home and still get to work on food, bike, and/or bus. It's not like I have a place to park in the middle of the university campus.
