I gave up smoking weed daily in summer 2024 (I think). The "secret" was to talk myself into really wanting it. Kiana Doherty did a video about this that really helped me.
I've done it a few times a week max in the UK since then, and I'm happy with that. Since moving to Rotterdam I often don't smoke weed in the UK at all when I'm back, just a few fags at the pub, if anything
But ooooooh boy have I formed a habit of smoking here 🙃 a night in alone is a real trigger...and I'm alone most nights here, and it's so easy and legal here. And I can smoke at my desk, which is so luxurious
But I was starting to feel the ill effects of it (harder to get up in the morning, harder to stay focussed at work the next day) last time I was here. And I felt bad about it. But I still got right back to it when I came back two days ago...
But then I ran at the gym last night and really wasn't into it. Which was sad because I'd been loving it.
So I blamed the weed and that motivated me to not smoke last night 💪🏼
Framing it as an achievable goal really helps, and I've done that now just about, I think.
Reasons why I should want to stop / cut back:
Harder to get up early, and I like getting up early
Harder to get stuck into hard tasks at work
I think it makes me stupid in the mornings especially. I went to the office without my office keys 😭
I worry it slows my reactions, which is terrible for MMA
And now I think it makes me not want to run, and I really want to get back into running
