Having been Very Online in the mid 1990s is rough because half of your formative influences are like "yeah, this Flash video engages in pop culture deconstruction that's strikingly topical even thirty years later and did things to my vocabulary that persist to this day, and I can literally never recommend it to anyone because its core premise is a level of homophobic ordinarily observed only under laboratory conditions".

Homestar Runner is the way that it is in large part because it's a response to the 90s edgelord bullshit I'm talking about; while the characters had earlier appeared in print, the Flash animated version that everybody remembers didn't debut until January of 2000. If it's aged well, that isn't an accident β it's a product of its authors looking at the state of 1990s Internet culture and making a conscious decision to be Not That.
Tip:
When it comes to stuff like racism, sexism, homophobia, etc, Iβve found itβs usually way better to think to yourselfΒ βI donβt want to beβ thanΒ βIβm notβ.
I.e. if someone goesΒ βthat thing you just did is ableistβ, instead of goingΒ βIβm not ableist, I donβt hate disabled people!β itβs usually a lot better to goΒ βI donβt want to be ableist, I should rethink what Iβm doing/saying/etc in light of that factβ. Because that shifts your thinking so rather than jumping straight into denial and attempts to defend your character, youβre instead more inclined to look at how your actions could be misrepresenting your intentions. Or whether youβve overlooked something, been callous, or acted in ignorance.

also shameless plug here but if you want to read a very normal and completely not sad or gut wrenching story that definitely wonβt make you cry then you need to read this!! it's my first time writing a della-centric story but like I said it's TOTALLY only happy and no sadness involved at all. DONT look too close at the titleβthat's to throw people off.

Anyway, you definitely won't find those we're mentioning to read here. I recommend Frankenstein, too. It's a bit silly but wonderfully drawn.
But my personal favorite is the one from I TL 3070-1P, that frustratedpker did an amazing job with the scan/translation. It's a must read.
