Happy pride from me one day late
If youâre a Jax lover who was heartbroken by the end of tadc and once to see our favourite worst-girl-in-the-world(tm) pulled back from the brink, I canât recommend Where My Armor Ends by Qolden enough. (Also if youâve had experience with suicide & suicidality I think youâll find it very powerful)!
growing up as an unaware lesbian trans girl you'll have cis dudes asking you things like "wait if you're a guy who likes girls... why do you act like such a faggot?" and by acting like a faggot they'll just mean having emotions and respecting women. and you'll just shrug

It's hard to really get across how baffling the gatekeeping model of trans healthcare actually is.
Like. You say "maybe patients shouldn't have to put their hand in the pain box from Dune" and people go "but we should be careful". Okay. The pain box from Dune is unrelated to being careful.
"What about detransitioners?"
"Here's an entire systematic review finding that the pain box from Dune has literally no effect on anything related to detransition."
"Well it's important that we don't make people do things they regret"
?????????????????????
"So the pain box from Dune is expensive, has no demonstrable benefit to patients, many patients say the pain box was bad for them. We can remove the pain box at negative cost and it won't be missed."
"Have you considered that this radical activism is alienating moderate supporters?"
shot through the heart đ
Jax as a character really epitomises supporting women's rights and wrongs
I'm going topless to pride tomorrow, wish me luck and safety

âoh but goose meant to make jax into a horrible person!!â
(//â . ^) ŕťęą
I hate the points about a creators intent. Media isnt something thats set in stone, its something that is gonna be interpreted in multiple ways⌠and its common albeit annoying af sometimes that its not gonna be taken the same way by everyone. A creator or writer can say all they want about what they wanted the meaning to be or what it was but a show should be judged through what is visible in the writing and scenes. Its why i hate when people use her blue sky/tumblr answers as i feel that it should be obvious in the show. I understand that goose sees jax as a terrible person but the show does a bad job at portraying this. Jax is babyed and given next to no consequences. The patience with her is amazing, like why is every character so passive and accepting⌠i get why ragatha considering her mom or gangles slow acceptance of the abuse after so long but pomni and zooble? What?! Unlike Bojack, where his relationships r slowly ruined cuz nobody wants to put up with his shit, jax is given every single but of attention by both the show and characters, no wonder people r nicknaming it the jax show. I would like her ending, personally im against the idea that every bad character needs redeemed or to be killed⌠but they still need some level of push back. Its why i like her abstracting as she refused to accept help and now shes trapped with those thoughts for eternity, but its ruined by the other characters still coddling her by the end, for gods sake pomni literally goes into her head and is willing to abstract for her like who knows what wouldve happened if she wasnt saved by the others.
Overall my main issue is that jax isnt given much push back or shown to have any real consequences for all the shit she did in the show. We can take gooses word for all we like but we have to acknowledge that the show very much pushes this narrative forward that jax js needed fixing and that shes actually soft underneath so shes not that bad like js cuz she feels bad about it doesnt absolve her of all the shit shes done?
âNo consequencesâ, and she dies terrified, crying, and not wanting to go. Honestly I donât know how you could say that the narrative babies her when she dies as a direct consequence of her own actions and self-destructive tendencies.
Jax isnât âabsolvedâ of anything, if anything I would say this episode showing her treatment of Ribbit is damning. She doesnât get a happy ending where her actions are forgiven. I think showing a bad person as tragic and complicated, and ultimately someone who didnât have to be âbadâ, is much more interesting than if she had just been like, âinnately evilâ or something.
I do think Jax needed fixing. She was a flawed traumatized trans teen shoved into a torture chamber. She made bad choices and did bad things, but as the outside version of her showed, she didnât have to be that way, she couldâve been someone better
yes because that isnt consequences. You can feel bad all u like but that isnt consequences or push back. People think js cuz assholes feel emotions, it somehow makes them remorseful/not as bad. Her death isnt portrayed as a punishment either.. it paints her out to be some broken individual who couldnt let people get close. So many fans and even the creators forget how much of an abusive asshole she can be.
Ribbit is literally js fodder for jaxs story. I agree that the show doesnt paint it out to the way many haters say it does, but it is disgusting that weâre supposed to empathise with jax over her friends dying when she quite literally made them commit. Im so tired of the âu js want jax to be evil and nothing moreâ mentality⌠i like complex assholes. Hell bojack is a masterpiece to me but the way the show handles the characters is poorly. For a story u need to have passive and reactive characters, not every character is gonna get walked all over to the ends of the earth. This show is so strange in how were supposed to see them as mature adults in some ways, whilst making them act 12 in others. Id like if they portrayed them as immature adults cuz well yeah⌠not every adult is some all knowing messiah yet the show flip-flops. Im more pissed at how the shit around jax is treated. Its always like they can never be fully hated by someone. I dont want the whole cast to be anti-jax but there needs to be a mix. This show once again couldâve had so many nuanced talks over shit like this. I cant e if i said it in this post or another post but i like the idea of not everyone hating jax, showing that people can still have a twisted sense of love or even care for their abusers as much as they hate it.
i dont hate everything about her character tho cuz duh - i love when characters who r trans or any other minority arent treated like saints so its refreshing, and i like her death and the fact that she couldve became a better person like u said.
Hell i like their backstory as i lwk relate to it alot especially with the mom stuff. Actually pisses me off that alot of tadc haters r defending his mom and saying jax hit her unprovoked⌠like trust me mental abuse and parents who act hot and cold like that r horrible for your brain to deal with, and its annoying that people r so much on the hate bandwagon that they try to villainise her in her own backstory. Tbh i think the only issue with ther story is i wouldâve liked if they killed their mom.. idk i think itd show more of jaxs abuse tendencies, and make it very morally grey as his mom sucks and is horrible but he still killed someone
ty for actually responding, i literally get zero comments on most of these rants
I def agree that âfeeling badâ isnât really a consequence, I meant that her death was the consequence, like in a narrative way. She pushed everyone away and rejected every chance to get better, and it killed her. Her behaviour is what caused her death. Idk does that make sense?
I do think she was remorseful though, in the end when she says she killed her friends. Itâs too late and it doesnât âabsolveâ her, but I do think itâs real remorse.
I think itâs possible to feel empathy for a terrible person who destroyed theirs and the lives of the people around them. Like not sympathy, not agreeing with, but I think empathizing with the pain even if itâs their fault is understandable.
I also def think the show has writing problems lol, like wildly tonally inconsistent. So it was definitely a flawed portrayal of the cast and reactions imo.
People siding with the mom is wild! I canât believe it lol. Idk if Jax had killed her mom would show abuse tendencies though? Because it wouldâve been an accident right? (Personally I wished she had killed her because it seems like her mom SUCKED lol)
I think for better or worse Jax is really interesting as a character. Like differing interpretations and opinions about her will probably keep her and the show relevant than they might have been otherwise. I mean Iâve been talking about it non-stop since I watched the episode đ

Maybe a blisteringly hot take but Iâm gonna do it:
Jax didnât cause any of the abstractions, not really. She certainly didnât help, and she definitely harmed.
But the blood is on Caineâs hands. Caine forced human minds into its torture chamber for its own amusement, playing god with their lives, and ignoring all their desires and needs. Caine pushed them until they broke again and again and again and again. Then it threw them away and continued to play with the ones that were left.
The brain-scan of a traumatized, runaway, repressed trans teen was placed into a torment nexus, striped of all her agency, and THEN she acted terribly. Thereâs a monster in this story, and itâs not her.
they hug but at what cost :')
