Here’s some food for thought. During the period of the Apollo 11 missions, it cost the average American tax payer pennies per day to fund if you break the costs of the mission down in terms of population and the 4% of the federal budget NASA was allotted. Not only was the moon landing one of the greatest feats of mankind but it also brought about technological knowledge that lead to the invention or the advancement of 6,300 pieces of technology that we use daily now, including life saving medical advancements. Those missions also created close to 34,000 jobs in various fields. It’s also been proven time and again that funding space programs consistently shows huge returns to the economy and to the public.
Today NASA is alloted less than 0.5% of the federal budget and the cost per tax paying citizen is even lower. In 2011 the American space flight program cost 7 billion dollars. Again, that’s pennies per day per person. In 2008, Americans spent $154 billon on alcohol and $10 billon PER MONTH in funding the Iraq war.
Science and space programs are VITAL to the advancement and survival of our species. To further stamp out our learning and our understanding of the world around us is to simply put another gun to the head of future generations.
Learning and growing are the opposite of the problem here. Hang the greedy capitalist bastards that own all the wealth, redistribute it and help those that need it, and then put the rest into space programs, and education, science and art. These things are the tools that will help future generations undo this shitshow. Don’t take that away.
