Tony Stark picked up on those nuances literally hours after his house was blown up and he fell into the depths of the Pacific Ocean. Later, he involves Harley in his little Mission Impossible reenactment but makes sure the kid stayed back in Rose Hill, where he’d be safe. Tony also entrusted Harley with keeping the Mark 42 secure, and repaid the kid’s kindness - especially when he helped him through that panic attack - with an extreme makeover of his garage, made him a new potato gun (because he had to take apart Harley’s previous one) AND replaced the limited edition Dora the Explorer watch.

there is so much ‘discourse’ and awfulness on this website that literally does not exist in the outside world and that you will never encounter outside of tumblr. there are so many “problems” people on this website get violently angry over that are not actually real and do not exist outside of tumblr.

there’s this idea in our culture that cynicism is realistic? that only children believe in happy endings, that people are ultimately selfish and greedy and seeing with clear eyes means seeing the world as an awful place

that idealism is— easy, i guess. butterflies and sunshine and love are easy things to have in your head.

but i’ve known since i was fifteen that idealism— faith in humanity— optimism— is the most difficult thing in the entire world.

i constantly struggle to have faith in humanity, because it’s really, really easy to lose it. it’s easy to look at the news and go “what were you expecting? of course humans behave this way.” it’s easy to see the world and go “ugh, there’s no hope there.” and the years when i believed that were easy. miserable— but easy.

it is hard work to see the good in people. it is hard work to hope. it is hard work to keep faith and love and joy and appreciation for beauty in my daily life.

and when moviemakers and tv producers and writers go “omg!!! all characters are selfish and act poorly and don’t love each other, nothing ever happens that is happy or good, that’s so much more realistic, that’s so much more adult”

no, it’s not

it’s childish.

You know, there’s the motif of the light in the darkness - picture walking down a street in the pitch black of night, and you’re frightened because you don’t know who or what is around you - you know the world is full of (human) monsters and it is terrifying as shit. It’s cold outside, and you’re scared, and you feel a sort of desperation clawing up your throat, find yourself wondering why your life is the kind of life that has you stuck outside in 30 degree weather at 2 AM, all alone.

Then you round the corner, and there - your friend is there, completely unexpected, driving down the road in a warm, bright car. They came for you, so you wouldn’t have to be alone.

I just feel those stories so much more powerfully, you know? Ones where the human spirit perseveres through the absolute worst, and that beauty is resilient. Not social beauty, but life beauty, comfort and happiness and love. No matter how bleak things are, they can be bright, too.

someone pretending they don’t know another character is eavesdropping, only to casually reveal at the end of the scene that they know (*leaving* “tell tom that he can come out now” *tom drops from the ceiling in spy gear, irritated*)

choosing to deal with the villain by just leaving them alone in a room with another character
