Another tarot tuesday! This week it’s the Nine of Wands.
The sequence of 7-8-9-10 in the wands functions as a sort of extended metaphor for the phases of a battle or a struggle in the querant’s life. In the Eight it seemed the battle was nearly over - merely one final push between us and our goal - but in the Nine we see that things are not always so cleanly ended.
This card stands for resilience, patience, and defiance in the face of a struggle that never seems to end. Our tribulations by this point are by no means unbearable - they simply extend tiresomely, depressingly onward beyond our line of sight. Work becomes routine, something we barely even consciously register. We are just in the perpetual state of Getting It Done.
There’s little of comfort that can be said to someone in this state that doesn’t come across as an empty platitude. As long as an achievable goal is being worked towards, the only reassurance we have is that someday, the work will be over, and we will be proud of what we did.
