Wormtail Week 2022

Sign-Ups

From May 1st-June 30th, you can fill out the form to sign up to create fics, art, or edits. You’ll then receive an invite to the fest Discord server! Everyone participating in the fest is required to be in the server since that’s where we’ll be sharing updates and other info, and it's where you can meet and chat with fellow fans! If you don't/can't have a discord account for whatever reason but still want to participate please reach out to us!

Creation time

Once you sign-up you'll get invited to join the fest discord server, where you can discuss your fest plans and your work, connect with beta readers, and have lots of other discussions about Peter or other fun topics.

We’ll have a check-ins over the course of the creation period to help motivate and keep everyone on track.

By the end of Sunday October 26th, you must have your work uploaded on AO3 and added to the fest collection TaleOfTails25, or send your edits to one of the mods so we know you’ve finished it, and then on October 31st you’ll post it with the hashtag #TaleOfTails25.

For fics, this should be either a completed one-shot or a multi-chapter work with at least one completed chapter.

Reveal time

Friday October 31st, the saddest day of our fandom, we’ll lighten it up by posting all of your works about our favourite traitor! 

In the following couple weeks (depending on how many submissions we get) we’ll be encouraging promotion and engagement with everybody’s works as much as we can. Stay tuned for more info on that after we get an idea of how many participants we’re going to have & how best to do it.

Fest & server rules

·   This fest & server are intended for Peter centricity. We aim to uplift his character in a community that generally forgets him/waters his character down. Any creations in exploring him further, in whatever way your creativity takes you is welcomed.

·   Discussion of JKR herself and related topics is heavily discouraged in the server so that everyone feels comfortable. This fest does not endorse giving JKR monetary support, such as buying merch or watching the HBO show, and discussion of these topics should be done elsewhere. Any statements supporting JKR’s beliefs on trans people are prohibited in the server and fest, and are grounds for immediate removal and banning from the fest. Any racism, homophobia, misogyny, or other bigotry will result in a ban.

·   Since this fest may contain explicit and dark content, it is only open to 18+ creators. You must be 18 years old at the time of signing up and joining the Discord server. If you're turning 18 during the sign-up period please make sure to only fill out the form after your birthday.

·   Follow fandom etiquette so everything can run smoothly. Don’t like don’t read (DL;DR), Ship and Let Ship (SALS); your kink is not my kink, but your kink is OK (YKINMKBYKIOK)

Creation rules

·   Your works have no minimum or maximum word limit, write as much or as little as you want!

·   Your fic doesn’t have to be from Peter’s POV, but the whole story does have to revolve around him; it must be a Peter-centric work.

·   Beta readers are encouraged but not required. Co-writing is welcomed!

·   Fics must be tagged appropriately. You are required to use correct tagging for themes such as nsfw, non-con, dub-con, or incest, so that we (your mods) and you (the participants) can know what they’re reading before they start reading. Mods will reach out to you if there’s a tag you need to add!

·   Any use of generative AI is strictly banned from the fest.

The kids had come back from a midnight adventure with whispers of a three-headed dog and a trapdoor, and he’d vowed to keep a closer eye on them, though today it had been just as much to beat back his own ghosts than to protect Harry from his.

Tucking himself into Ron’s bag had been the right call, he knew, right up until it was unceremoniously dumped on Neville and Ron and Harry went running towards the danger, instead of away from it.

Cursing the Potter bloodline— not for the first time— he dodged a near trampling by a crowd of older Ravenclaws before skidding to a stop.

He didn’t need to give chase anymore.

He’d caught up to the boys, and the boys had found the troll.

The boys who were bravely (foolishly) not running away, but trapping the troll away in— that wasn’t a broom cupboard. Peter realized the same moment Hermione did, her shrill scream from inside the bathroom jolting Harry and Ron into opening the door again.

Peter had a split second to wish that his animagus form had come with the power and size he didn’t have as a human, that he might throw himself, as James or Sirius might have, in between the boys and their stupid, stupid act of chivalry before they got themselves killed.

He debated the merits of going for help— if only he still had the map— but no, even if he could find someone trustworthy enough to help, his own presence would negate it, prompt questions he couldn’t answer.

The door was swinging shut, Peter had only a moment to decide.

We’re brothers. We take care of our own. James’s voice echoed in his mind, a long ago conversation about a very different type of beast, but the message was the same: no one looks out for us better than we do.

He’d fucked that up before, he knew, biting back the grief. James might have said something different if he’d known what the future held. But James would also want his son to live, to survive his first year without being smashed to bits by a troll he had no business facing.

He was out of time. Even if it was the wrong decision, even if he fucked it up again, even if everything fell apart even more than it had before, this was something he had to do.

Mind made up, Peter slipped inside, so close he nearly caught his tail in the door.

The bathroom was a disaster. The troll had shattered the sinks along the wall, spraying water and debris. Hermione was trapped against the far wall; despite the boys’ attempts at distraction and Harry’s desperate calling for her to run, Peter could see no path clear of both frantic troll and obstruction.

It turned towards Ron, then, and Peter had a split second to consider his options— any chance of tripping the troll without collateral, or luring Harry away and consoling him on the loss of his newfound best friend— before Harry made the choice for him and did something so brave and so stupid it put nearly everything they’d done in seven years of school to shame.

With a great running leap (and an odd, bellowing call), Harry threw himself at the troll’s back and jabbed his wand straight into the troll’s sinuses.

The troll bucked, arms flailing and batting at its face, nearly flinging Harry off and into the stalls behind him.

Without thinking, without considering how it might all go wrong again, Peter transformed just in time to watch Ron levitate the troll’s club out of its hand.

Peter shot the most powerful stunner he could muster at its chest. Ron yelped and the club dropped, falling straight onto the troll’s head. It wobbled once, twice, and— before it could fall backwards and crush Harry or Hermione— Peter kicked hard at its right knee and it fell face first into the ground with a sickening thud.

All three kids looked at Peter in shock, and not, as he felt was warranted, at the newly stunned troll dominating the room.

“Who are you?” Harry asked.

A clatter sounded from down the hallway, making Peter jump.

Peter didn’t mind living with three boys — as far as boys went, they weren’t terrible. They made an effort at cleanliness, and occasionally even orderliness. They helped her open jam jar lids and retrieve things from high shelves and if — when — she eventually earned enough for her own place, she’d have all the moving help a girl could possibly want.

She also liked sticking it to whoever said girls and boys couldn’t be friends.

She wanted no part of their game night cuddles, though. Quiet in her own room she’d pretend to be studying, or sleeping — all the while wondering about herself, about everyone else — until the redhead moved in next door.

Peter had been the one to welcome her with fudge and cookies, walk around her studio apartment, laugh at how she’d unpacked all her books and nothing else.

“Waitress and aspiring poet,” Lily had admitted, green eyes shining, and every day Peter fell more and more in love with her.

“She’ll love it,” said James.

“It’s beautiful,” said Remus.

“Mmmmgph,” said Sirius, lips smeared, cheeks full.
