Part Two | Masterlist
- - - - -
Life is going well. Remus and I have been together for a few months now and even discussed moving in together, but Remus thought that it would be safer to keep our own separate places to live for now. He spends the majority of the time with me at my flat, sleeping over most nights too. But as the full moon approaches, he retreats to his cottage. He always returns to me the next morning and I always help comfort him in any way he needs, whether that means cleaning any wounds heâd managed to get or just holding him as he sleeps. I miss him while heâs away and I worry about him constantly, but I know he needs to do whatever he can to feel comfortable at that time. Weâve fallen into a routine that works for us.
I wake up with the sun shining through the small gap in the curtains of my bedroom window. Outside I can hear birds singing, and faint sounds of people happily greeting each other on the street below. I feel the familiar warmth of Remusâ body against my back; his arm draped over my body. I turn myself around carefully in his embrace so that I am face to face with him, looking at his sleeping face with a smile. He looks so peaceful. Itâs hard to imagine that tonight that face will be gone, replaced with that of the wolf in the full moon. I study his face, every crease, every hair, every scar⊠I wonder what the story is behind each one. I wonât ask him, but I do hope that one day heâll tell me. I canât help but reach out, allowing myself to gently trace my finger along his cheek.
âGood morningâ Remusâ voice comes out rough, still thick with sleepiness as he slowly opens his eyes to look at me.
âSorry, I didnât mean to wake you.â
âNot at all darling.â He reassures as his arm drapes over me, pulling me closer into his warmth. âI like waking up like this.â
I bury my face into his chest, hiding my huge grin. His hand finds my cheek, trying to guide my face up to look at his.
âI can feel you smiling.â he says, laughing gently. âWhy are you hiding from me? Hmm?â
âBecause!â I laugh, losing the battle and finally allowing him to see my face. âItâs embarrassing, you make me giggle like some lovesick schoolgirl.â
âWell, you shouldnât be embarrassed my love, I think itâs adorable.â He kisses me. âYou are adorable.â
I look at him, content and happy, and for a moment everything is perfect. But then I remember what day it is, and slowly the smile fades from my face.
âHey, whatâs wrong?â Remus looks at me with concern.
âI hate full moon nights.â
âOh, my love.â He pulls me in tight to his chest again. âI still canât believe you learnt the moon cycle just for me⊠what did I do to deserve you?â
âI care about you Remus. And I hate it when youâre gone, I worry about you.â
âLook at me.â He lifts my chin gently. âYou have nothing to worry about. Itâs just another full moon. Iâll spend the night in my bunker, and Iâll be back before you wake in the morning. And if you need anything, Sirius is just a phone call away.â
I nod, giving him a weak smile before leaning in to kiss him one more time. We get out of bed and spend the day together until the sun starts to set. Then I stand at my front door, watching Remus retreat down the cobbled street towards the woods.
A pang of worry fills me when he finally disappears, but Remus is right, I know he is. He tells me the same thing every full moon and every morning after he is always there. A little scratched and bruised but safe.
Like he said, tonight is just another full moon.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
I always struggle to sleep when the full moon is here. As much as I try to shut out the worries and repeat Remusâ reassuring words, I canât seem to shut my brain off.
Iâm sat up in bed reading, my eyes stinging with tiredness as the book slowly starts to slip from my hand, when a loud crash startles me. I listen, eyes wide and breath held, straining my ears for any other noise. For a moment itâs silent, then another even louder thump makes me jump from my bed. It sounded like it was inside my flat. I tiptoe to my bedroom door, pulling it open just enough to peer through into the dark corridor. I can hear a sort of scratching sound from somewhere in my flat. I take a deep breath and step outside my room, moving silently closer to the sound. The light from the full moon shines in through a window, illuminating my small kitchen and there stood with its back to me, staring at some now smashed plates on the floor⊠a huge grey wolf.
I freeze.
Do I run? Do I approach the wolf? This could be Remus, escaped from his bunker and come to me where he feels safe. If it is Remus, would he even recognise me? Or would the wolf take over? I donât know what to do.
I let out a shaky breath I hadnât realised Iâd been holding and the wolfâs ears twitch. He heard me. He turns his head, slowly, in my direction. His bright eyes lock onto mine.
âRemus?â my voice barely a whisper as the wolf begins to stalk towards me. âRemus is that you?â
Thereâs no expression on the wolfâs face as he continues advancing on me. Instinctively my feet start carrying me backwards, retreating as I raise my hands out in front of me as a sort of surrender, trying to show the wolf Iâm not dangerous.
The wolf stops, looking at my outstretched hands, like its assessing me.
âRemus?â I try again, braving a small step forward.
Suddenly the wolfâs expression changes. His eyes focus, his teeth bared, a low snarl. For a split second it hunches back, then suddenly it springs forward, dashing at me.
I sprint back into my bedroom, slamming the door shut just in time for the wolf to throw itself against the other side. I quickly drag my chest of drawers in front of the door, praying they stay put with the force of the wolf trying to break through. My eyes dart around the room. My window is too small for me to escape through. The only option is to hide. The wardrobe? Not big enough. Behind the curtain? Too exposed. Under the bed? That could work.
I drop to the floor and shuffle underneath the wooden frame of my bed, curling my legs up making myself as small as possible. It only takes a few more seconds for the wolf to smash itâs way through the door. I clasp my hands over my mouth and try my best to control my breathing as the wolf prowls around my room. From under the bed, I can see its large feet padding across the floorboards. It stills and I can hear it sniffing, trying to find my scent. Then it moves around to the other side of my bed, out of my sightline. For a long, horribly tense moment thereâs nothing. Then suddenly I feel itâs teeth clamp onto my ankle. I scream as it drags me out from under the bed, trying to grab hold of anything I can. But its no good. The wolf pulls me out into the middle of my room.
âRemus please!â I cry as the wolf stands over me, bringing its face close to mine. I can feel hot breath from itâs nose as it sniffs at me. âPlease!â
The last thing I hear is a snarl as the wolf lunges at me.
With a scream my eyes shoot open, and I wave my arms around, fighting off an imaginary wolf. I sit up, realising Iâm back in my bed.
It was just a dream. Or should I say nightmare.
Itâs not unusual for me to have nightmares, especially on full moon nights. The anxiety of Remus going to the woods usually seeps through, and I dream that heâll somehow escape the safety of his bunker. That heâll wonder into the town and be attacked by villagers. Or that some brave villagers will go into the woods and find him.
But Iâve never had a nightmare like that before. Never that intense. And never that I was the one in danger.
I take a few breaths, trying to shake the dream away, and glance over at the clock on my bedside table.
6:37am.
Itâs morning already? A sense of relief hits me as I realise the night is over. The sun is starting to rise, and Remus will be on his way back to me.
I get up and open the curtains, before heading to the kitchen to make a coffee. The kitchen is just as I left it. No smashed plates and no angry wolves. I take my cup of coffee with me and climb back into bed, sitting up against the headboard and watch the sunrise through the window.
By 7am the sun is high and the birds outside have started to sing.
But Remus isnât here.
7:10. Nothing.
7:20. Still nothing.
7:30 and I start to worry. Remus is usually always here by 7:30.
I get out of bed and take my now empty coffee cup back to the kitchen, then quickly change out of my pyjamas and pull on some trainers. I grab my phone from the desk and head outside.
The streets are quiet with only a few villagers already up and out. I make my way towards the woods, constantly scanning for any sign of Remus, hoping that heâs just late. Maybe he stopped at the bakery to get pastries, or the greengrocers for some fresh fruit?
I reach the edge of the forest and stop, the memory of the first time Remus and I stood here during our first date. The first kiss. I take a breath and enter the woods, mentally mapping out the route Remus had taken me on to visit his cottage and eventually reach the place I thought his cottage would be. But I see nothing.
Then I remember; the muggle repelling charm. It doesnât matter how hard I look; I wonât be able to find it. Not without-
âSirius!â I say to myself, taking out my phone and finding his number. I press call and listen to it ring. And ring. And ring. Until eventually it clicks to the prerecorded voicemail.
âIf youâre hearing thisâŠâ Remusâ voice says through the speaker. ââŠthen Sirius has broken his promise-â
âWhat promise have I broken now?!â Siriusâ voice calls out in the background. They recorded this voicemail the day I first met Sirius in Remusâ cottage, the memory of watching them have this little argument makes me smile.
âThe one where you promised to answer this phone if it rings!â
âOnce again I find myself in trouble for something I havenât even done.â
âThatâs why I said IF! Anyway, Y/N, try again. Hopefully heâll pick up next time. Oh and, one more thing. I love you.â
I hang up and immediately try again, but Iâm met with the same voicemail. I try three more times, each time getting more and more frustrated as tears threaten to come.
I wait for the beep of the voicemail recorder then leave a message.
âSirius! Please if you figure out how to hear this message then call me back. I canât find Remus. I think somethingâs wrong.â
I send him a quick text message too, telling him I need him, but as I press send my phone battery dies.
âShit!â I hiss, throwing my phone to the floor in frustration. Of course, Iâd been so wrapped up in full moon anxiety, Iâd forgotten to put it on charge last night.
I slump down against the nearest tree. The treeâs rough bark is hard against my back. I sit there for a while feeling overwhelmed with anxiety, my head spinning with every worse case scenario of where Remus could be. Trapped? Injured? Dying? Captured by villagers? Or worse, the dark lord?
I remember my dream from last night. How real it felt, the fear coming back to me. A worry that Iâd been trying to ignore, the possibility of Remus actually hurting someone one day⊠of hurting me. How can we build a life with someone Iâm scared of.
No. No, Iâm not scared of Remus, I could never be. But the wolf?
The anxiety boils and boils, a feeling of panic filling me. I bring my knees up to my chest, crossing my arms to hug myself as tears start to roll down my cheeks. I feel like I canât breathe.
Iâm so consumed in panic that I donât hear the sound of footsteps coming towards me, or the voice calling my name.
Itâs only when I feel someone wrap their arms around me that I realise Iâm not alone.
âItâs okay, Iâm here. Iâve got you. Just breathe. Breathe with me.â Sirius whispers calming words to me and just holds me for as long as it takes for my breathing to start to even out. Only then does he pull away and look at me. âI got your message.â
âRemus didnât come home this morning, and I canât find him or even his cottage because of some charm thing he puts on it. Iâm really worried Sirius; he would never just disappear like this.â
âI know, weâll find him.â He says with such assurance that I actually believe him. He helps me up off the ground then gets out his wand and recites some sort of spell. Slowly Remusâ cottage comes into view as the charm disappears. Sirius unlocks the front door and tells me to search inside while he goes around the back to check the bunker.
I search every room but find nothing. After a few minutes Sirius comes in.
âThe bunker is empty and the door was open when I got there. Looks like the chain on the door may have snapped.â
âSo he got out? He could be anywhere!â
âDid he take his wolfsbane potion before he left you yesterday?â Sirius asks, and I think before nodding. âThatâs good. That means he still had his mind, and heâll have been tired. He wonât have gone far, I doubt he even left the forest.â
He heads for the front door, and I go to follow, but he stops and looks at me.
âIâm coming with you.â I say simply. He looks like he wants to say something, but I speak again first. âDonât try and stop me Sirius, Iâm coming.â
He thinks for a second then gives a resigned nod. âStay close.â
We head back outside and Sirius stops, picking something up.
âI believe this is yours.â He says, handing me my now mud covered phone before we set off deeper into the woods to search for Remus. We walk through the seemingly never ending maze of trees calling out his name, scanning the ground for footprints, the tree trunks for marks, any signs that he may have been here.
For a long time we find nothing.
But we keep going.
My throat stinging from shouting for Remus.
But we keep going.
Then I see it.
âThere, look!â
Claw marks slashed into a tree and huge paw prints in the mud, a trail of them that lead off the path, through bushes and overgrown weeds. I feel a pang of fear run through my body as I stare at the deep cuts in the tree. Cuts made by Remus. Last nightâs nightmare flashes in my mind, the moment the wolf had me pinned to the floor. A new fear creeps in. What if he hasnât transformed back. What if we donât find Remus; we find the wolf.
I shake the fear away as Sirius starts to follow the trail of pawprints. I can feel my legs getting scratched and stung by vines and stingers, but I ignore the pain and keep fighting through the thicket until finallyâŠ
âRemus!!â I cry, running over to where he is curled up on the ground. I reach down and touch his face. âHeâs freezing!â
Sirius immediately removes his coat and helps Remus sit up. He groans in pain, trying to open his eyes.
âCâmon Moony, I know youâve had a big night but itâs time to get up now.â Sirius drapes his coat around Remusâ shoulders, shaking him gently.
We each take one of Remusâs arms and help him stand, carefully manoeuvring him out of the weeds heâd been using as a bed. The walk back to the cottage is long and takes all my strength but together we manage it.
I clean some of the worst of Remusâ wounds and help him into some comfy pyjamas while Sirius makes some tea. Remus is totally out of it. He doesnât speak or even really look at us, he just sits there in a daze. Whatever happened last night has taken every bit of strength he had and left him more exhausted than Iâve ever seen him. I help him into bed and pull the duvet and blankets up so theyâre tucked under his chin, then sit on the bed next to him, stroking his hair.
Sirius comes in with two cups of tea, handing one to me before sitting on a chair near the bed and taking a long sip from his own cup. We sit in comfortable silence, the only sounds birdsong outside and Remusâ occasional soft snores.
âUh,â Sirius breaks the silence. âAre you alright?â he asks cautiously and I nod. âAre you sure? Cause that panic attack you had earlier looked serious.â
âYeah well, I was worried.â I try to sound casual, but Iâm not very convincing.
âThat was more than just worry, Y/N. That was true fear.â He says, taking a breath and changing his tone to be gentler. âY/N⊠I promised Remus I would look out for you-â
âJust drop it!â I snap, instantly feeling guilty. âPlease. I donât want to talk about it. Not now.â
Sirius nods, turning his gaze on Remus.
âHeâll be like this for a while, I should think.â Sirius says, looking back at me with kind eyes. âYou should get some rest.â
âI canât leave him-â
âIâm relieved that Remus found someone who really cares about him, but you need to care for yourself too. Go, get some sleep on the sofa. Iâll be here; Iâll watch him.â
I think about arguing back, but the ache in my body tells me Sirius is right. I give him a small nod and finish the last bit of tea, before getting up and heading into the living room. I sink easily into the comfortable sofa, wrapping a thick blanket around myself and with the knowledge that Remus is safe I fall into a deep, dreamless sleep.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
I must have been asleep for a few hours because when I wake, I can see itâs starting to get dark outside. Iâm still alone in the living room but the lamp in the corner has been switched on, I guess by Sirius, and the fire has been lit giving a warm glow to the room. I keep the blanket wrapped around my shoulders as I get up from the sofa and head to the bedroom. Relief fills me as I see Remus now sat up in bed, drinking a cup of tea with Sirius. They both smile at me as I walk in, though I can see on Remusâ face heâs still quite sleepy.
âI hear youâve been on quite the adventure today.â He says, raising an eyebrow slightly with a smirk and I feel like Iâve just had a glimpse of Professor Lupin.
âYouâre one to talk.â I laugh, moving to sit on the edge of his bed. âMidnight stroll through the woods, was it?â
âSomething like that.â His smile turns serious, taking my hand in his. âIâm sorry I worried you.â
âDonât.â I squeeze his hand and shake my head. âDonât apologise for something that isnât your fault.â
âIt is⊠my fault. I didnât check the chain on the door properly. I made a mistake-â
âExactly! It was a mistake, Remus, mistakes happen.â
âI made a mistake and it hurt you.â
âHey, no, Remus. Look at me.â I cradle his face in my hands. âIâm not hurt. Iâm okay.â
âY/N you had a panic attack!â he says, taking my hands off his face. I look from him to Sirius, who looks back at me apologetically.
âI had to tell him. You were in such a bad way when I found you. It- it scared me.â
âI said I didnât want to talk about it.â I pull my hands away, withdraw into myself. I stare down as I anxiously pick at the skin around my fingernail.
âIâll give you two some space.â Sirius says sheepishly, before retreating to the living room.
âPlease donât be upset with Sirius, he was just doing what I asked him to.â Remus says gently.
âIâm not upset with Sirius, Iâm upset with myself!â I say, and Remus looks at me confused. âI was really scared today, Remus, more scared than Iâve been in a long time- maybe ever. Scared that you were hurt, scared that we wouldnât find you, scared that you would be-â I gasp, unable to finish that sentence. âAnd⊠for the first time since we met⊠I was scared of⊠you. I- I mean the wolf you.â The sadness that fills Remusâ eyes breaks my heart, but I know I have to tell him. âI had a dream last night. And I know dreams arenât real, but it felt soreal and I think it just let it get in my head, with the stress of everything-â
âY/N.â Remus interrupts my nervous rambling. âWhat was it? You can tell me.â
âI dreamt I was being hunted by a wolf. It was in my flat and it chased me, and I tried to hide but it found me and it⊠it attacked me.â I take a deep breath, watching Remus process my words. âI donât even know if it was you, or just a random wolf. I mean, it wasnât even real! It was just a stupid dream, and itâs ridiculous to let it make me feel like this-â
âItâs not ridiculous, Y/N, your feelings are valid. In fact, theyâre completely normal. Iâm a werewolf⊠thatâs a lot to deal with, especially for someone who grew up thinking werewolves were just fairytale villains. Youâve embraced my world so openly, and I love that about you, but youâre also allowed to be frightened by it.â He reaches out to hold my hand, but pauses, searching my face for permission like he doesnât want to scare me. I nod and place my hand in his. âBut just know, that I would never hurt you. I would never put you in a position that could harm you... I made a mistake this time, but I wonât let that happen again.â
âI know.â I say quietly.
âBut,â He releases my hand. âItâs unfair of me to ask you to stay. You are also allowed to walk away if this is too much. I wouldnât blame you and I wonât stop you. Your safety and happiness is my priority, and if that means I have to let you go then so be it.â
âDonât say that.â My voice barely a whisper, choked with emotion. âI canât- I could never leave you Remus, I love you⊠I need you.â
He opens his arms, a silent invitation that I accept. I fall onto the bed beside him, allowing him to wrap himself around me and hold me like heâs scared Iâll disappear. We stay together like this in silence for a while, both processing the difficult conversation weâve just had. Both trying to figure out how to move forward. Both as scared as each other.
âIâm not going anywhere.â I say quietly, turning my face to look at Remus. âI mean it, I want to build a life with you Remus, grow old with you. Iâm here to stay⊠if youâll have me.â
âOf course, my love. I want that more than anything.â His eyes glisten with tears he wonât allow to fall.
âMy Remus.â I put my hand on his cheek, wiping my thumb under his eye to catch an escaped tear. âYouâre not alone anymore, okay, I am here for you and I always will be. And sure, I donât know how a human and a werewolf work, but weâll figure it out. Together.â
âTogether.â
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Hand in hand, we emerge from the bedroom to find Sirius in the kitchen stirring something in a pot on the stove.
âAre you two alright?â he asks, glancing between us.
Remus and I look at each other, nodding before Remus replies. âYeah. Weâre good.â
Sirius smiles, his shoulders releasing tension as he lets out a sigh.
âYou know you two have got to stop making me worry. May I remind you Iâm a fugitive on the run from the ministry, I have enough stress as it is.â He jokes but I sense thereâs some truth to his words.
I release Remusâ hand and walk over to the kitchen, leaning against the counter near Sirius.
âHey, uh, thank you for today. For being there, and for helping.â I pause, feeling sheepish. âAnd Iâm sorry I snapped at you. Youâre a really good friend Sirius. Heâs lucky to have you⊠so am I.â
Siriusâ hand stills on the wooden spoon heâs holding. He looks at me, a new emotion in his eyes. Something Iâve not seen from him before.
âThat means a lot.â He chokes, clearing his throat and shaking his head slightly, attempting to hide his emotion behind a smile. I give his shoulder a squeeze. âAnyway, Iâve made dinner. Thought youâd both be hungry after todayâs adventures.â
I set the table as Sirius serves three bowls of stew. We sit together at the dinner table and eat, and talk, and laugh. The stress of the past 24 hours not forgotten, but it doesnât feel so big anymore. At least for now.
Remus holds my hand under the table, giving it a gentle squeeze. A silent thank you, and a promise that we can get through anything.
Together.
*Thank you so much for reading. If you enjoyed, please leave a comment or reblog, you'll make me as happy as Sirius in the kitchen ;)

Part One
- - - - -
I dread the full moons.
Even though Remus has assured me heâs got plans in place to keep the wolf as controlled as possible and away from the village, I canât help but worry about him every time. Imagining him out alone in those woods, painfully transforming into the thing that he hates. âThe monsterâ as Remus calls it, though monster is not a word I could ever associate with Remus Lupin. No one who knew him would.
âI want you to meet someone.â Remus says as we walk together through the woods. Remus takes out his wand and gives it a flick, and suddenly his cottage appears before my eyes. The first time he brought me here, heâd explained that he had used something called a âmuggle repelling charmâ to hide his home and his werewolf bunker away from any villagers who were brave enough to enter the woods. Iâd seen him remove this charm for me a few times now, but it still amazes me.
Remus unlocks the front door to his cottage and holds it open for me as I step inside. There sat on the sofa is a black hound.
âHow did I not know you have a dog?!â I say excitedly, turning around to look at Remus as he pulls the door closed behind him and locks it.
âNot quite.â He says with a smirk as waves his wand towards the window. I watch amazed as the curtains pull themselves closed. âI wouldnât suggest petting this one.â
âShe can if she wants to. I donât bite.â A male voice behind me says jokingly and I turn back to see a man sat where the dog was. He stands and approaches me with a smile. âSo, this is the girl who tamed the wolf, eh?â
I look between him and Remus in shock.
âY/N, meet Sirius Black. One of my oldest friends. Weâve known each other since school.â Remus explains.
âOldest and only friend.â Sirius jokes, hitting Remus on the shoulder before embracing him in a genuine heartfelt hug. âItâs good to see you Moony.â
âYou too Pads.â Remus replies, before Sirius turns his attention back to me.
âY/N!â He says as he pulls me in for a hug too. I peer over his shoulder at Remus, who is smiling proudly at the scene in front of him.
âNice to meet you Sirius.â I manage to say, despite how enthusiastically he is squeezing me.
The three of us sit and talked for hours, Sirius and Remus reminiscing about their school years as I listen and drink my tea. A part of me wishes I had been a witch so I could have attended this magical school with them. Although after learning of the existence of spiders that are bigger than humans that lived in the forest on the edge of the school grounds, maybe not.
It isnât long before the tea works its way through my body and I dismiss myself to go to the toilet. As Iâm walking back toward the living room, I hear the boys talking in hushed tones.
âPlease Sirius, I just need to know that someone is looking out for her.â
âSomeone already is Remus, you are!â
âBut if something were to happen to me-â
âLike what?â
âLike⊠I don't know, anything. An accident during a full moon-â
âYou're too careful for accidents Remus.â
âOr if the dark lordâs followers come looking for me.â
âWe both know Iâm more of a target than you.â
Thereâs a moment of tense silence between them before sound of the floorboard creaking under my foot causes both to turn and look at me. Remus sighs as he notices the worry on my face. âY/NâŠâ
âWhatâs going on Remus?â I ask, my heart racing.
âNothing-â
âAre you in danger?â
âNo Y/NâŠâ he approaches me, taking my shoulders in his hands and bending slightly to look in my eyes. âYou have nothing to worry about.â
âThen why are you asking Sirius to look after me?!â
âThatâs not- I just-â he stumbles before taking a breath and leading me over to sit on the sofa next to Sirius. He sits on the chair opposite me. âY/N, my condition makes life very complicated for me. Since leaving Hogwarts I have never felt safe anywhere, I have never felt at home anywhere. Until I met you. I just need to know that you are protected, just in case of the unlikely event that anything was to happen.â
âHeâs not planning for anything; heâs just taking out insurance⊠Iâm the insurance apparently.â Sirius adds, making me laugh slightly.
âYou would tell me if something was going to happen, right?â I say, and Remus nods. âPromise me Remus.â
âI promise. We are safe.â He smiles, reaching over to hold my hand. âBut as a precaution, just to put my mind at easeâŠâ He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a basic mobile phone which he hands to Sirius.
âWhat in the name of Merlin is this?â Sirius says, inspecting it with a frown.
âA phone- the muggle version of an owl.â Remus explains, and I have to stifle a laugh at the confused look on Siriusâ face. âItâs a way for Y/N to be able to contact you if she ever needs to.â
I spend some time briefly teaching Sirius how to use the phone, putting my mobile number in and pressing dial. Sirius watches in fascination as my phoneâs ringtone starts playing. I then call him back from my phone so that his rings.
âPress the green button.â I say and he does. I hold my phone to my ear and gesture for him to do the same, which he does. âHello!â I say cheerfully and he laughs.
âMuggle technology!â
After making Sirius promise to keep the phone with him and answer it if it ever rings, Remus hugs his friend goodbye.
âPleasure to finally meet you Y/N.â Sirius says as he pulls me in for a hug before whispering âlook after him.â
âI will.â I whisper back and smile at him as he steps away from me and disappears with a loud crack. âMagicâŠâ I say breathlessly as I look at Remus who smiles back at me.
âApparition. Not the most pleasant way to travel, but quick and useful.â He says, putting an arm around me as we sit together on the sofa.
âThank you for introducing me to me to all of this. For letting me into your life.â I say, cuddling into his side. âI loved hearing about your school years.â
âI admit, it was nice to reminisce with Sirius.â
âDo you ever get to see any other school friends? What was it you called them⊠the marauders?â
âUhâŠâ he says, and I sense something change in him. âSirius and I are the only ones left.â
I sit up to look at him, but he stares ahead. I follow his gaze to the photo sat above the fireplace. A young Remus and Sirius smiling with two other boys and a girl.
âWe don't have to talk about it about if you don't want to.â
âNo, I- I want to.â He looks at me and I see the pain behind his eyes. âThey were important to me, and so are you. I want you to know about them.â
He tells me about James Potter, Lily Evans and Peter Pettigrew. He explained how Peter had joined the dark lordâs side and betrayed James and Lily, getting them killed. Peter then faked his own death and framed Sirius for the murders. Sirius has only recently escaped from the prison heâd been kept in for years and is now in hiding, which is why he must spend a lot of time in his animagus form; the black hound that was waiting for us in the cottage.
âFor twelve years I thought I was alone- I was alone. All my friends were gone, three of them dead and the other imprisoned for killing them. It was only after Sirius escaped that I learnt the truth, what Pettigrew had done. I just hope one day the rest of the wizarding world will know that Sirius is innocent. That he can start to rebuild his life again.â
âOh, Remus Iâm so sorry.â I whisper, taking his hand in mine. âI wish Iâd known you then, I hate the thought of you being alone.â
âNo, Iâm glad you didnât. I wasnât someone that I would want you to know. I was so angry and afraid. I pushed away anyone who tried to help, including my own father. Iâm ashamed of the person I was then.â
âYou were hurting, Remus. What you went through, experiencing that amount of grief- you handled it the only way you knew how to at that time. And do you know what, maybe you could have handled it differently, but you should be so proud of yourself, because you didnât let stop you from becoming the amazing person that you are now. Thatâs what really matters.â
For a moment he doesnât say anything. He just looks at me with watery eyes, before gently squeezing my hand. He doesnât need to speak; I can see in his eyes that my words are sinking in. He may not fully believe them, but heâs heard them. And for now, thatâs enough.

Part Three | Masterlist
â â â â â â
I wasnât prepared for how emotional we would be to see the sky again.
Astarion keeps a protective arm around me as we step out of the palace with Tav, Hapdim and Sebastian following behind. I take a deep breath of fresh air and look up at the stars twinkling in the dark sky. The moon is large, bright and breathtakingly beautiful.
Behind us I hear sniffling, and I look over my shoulder to see Sebastian wiping tears from under his eyes as Hapdim comforts him, though her eyes are also watering. I give him a smile, and he returns one to me.
âWeâre free.â Sebastian says tearfully, coming to stand next to us. âThank you Astarion.â
âDonât. I deserve no kindness from you. You should hate me for what I did to you.â He hangs his head.
âBelieve me, I spent all 170 years that I was trapped down there hating you. Itâs how I passed the time, dreaming of all the ways I could hurt you if I ever saw you again. And then you turned up. And I realised you were just another plaything of Cazador. Like us, just with a different type of cage.â Sebastian places his hand on Astarion. âCazador is dead. I think its time for hate to die too.â
Sebastian hugs Astarion. For a moment Astarion resists, like he thinks this is a trap, but eventually he accepts it and hugs him back. When they pull away Astarion has tears in his eyes, which he quickly wipes away.
âI truly am sorry.â Astarion whispers and Sebastian nods.
âSorry to break this upâŠâ Tav steps forward ââŠbut the sun will be rising soon.â
âRight.â Astarion snaps out of it. âTav, could you escort Sebastian and Hapdim? If you move quick, you should be able to catch up with the others before they reach the Underdark.â
âWeâre not going with them?â I ask.
âI need to get you to Gale and Shadowheart so they can hopefully restore your memories. We have a camp set up in a room at Elfsong Tavern. Youâll have to stay indoors there but once the sun sets, I can take you to the Underdark with the everyone else.â
We say our goodbyes and split up, Astarion and I going one way while the others go another. The sun is just starting to rise by the time we reach the doors to the tavern and Astarion rushes me inside.
The inside of the tavern is a dimly lit room with dark wooden walls and floors. Thereâs a smell of stale beer and whatever is being cooked in the kitchen. Iâm guessing sausages and bacon since its almost breakfast time. As Astarion leads me past through the ground floor towards the wooden stairs I look over at the bar and I stop for a moment.
âThis is where you found me, isnât it?â I ask and Astarion follows my gaze to the two stools.
âIt is⊠you remember?â
âI have brief flashes. Not much.â
Astarion nods, a flash of guilt on his face, before he continues leading me upstairs and soon we reach the room him and his group have hired.
Itâs probably the largest room in the tavern. On three sides of the room are sections with beds in. The centre of the room is a smaller section with chairs and sofas positions around a large fireplace.
Astarion announces our arrival as he leads me over to the far side of the room. Shadowheart is stood waiting with a man with shoulder length dark hair, dressed in a purple robe. Heâs studying a book which he looks up from and smiles as he sees me.
âAh, you must be Y/N! Our new friend with an unfortunate case of curse inflicted amnesia. Shadowheart has filled me in, but donât worry, weâll get you back to normal in no time. Shall we get started?â
Astarion looks at me and I nod. Gale gestures for me to lay down on a nearby bed and he and Shadowheart stand on either side of me. Astarion stands back, giving them space.
âYouâre going to alright Y/N.â Shadowheart says gently, a reassuring smile on her face.
âThis will probably feel strange, maybe even slightly overwhelming. But it wont hurt.â Gale explains, holding the book in one hand as he places the other on my head. Shadowheart gently places one of her hands on my chest above my heart.
Just like the first time Shadowheart touched me, I again feel a calming warmth come from her hand and radiate through me. The same with Gale. I allow my eyes to close as for a moment all I feel is peace. Gale begins reading the spell from his book and suddenly my head is flooded with memories. All at once, my life plays out in my mind like a movie.
I see my parents faces. All the things we did together. A happy family. I see the day that I came home to find our cottage on fire. Our neighbours holding me back as I tried to run inside. I see my parentsâ coffins being lowered into the ground as a stranger leads me away to the orphanage. I see the other kids who bullied me for years, made my life hell, and the night as a teenager I decided to run away and live on the streets. I see all the nights I had to fight just to survive.
Itâs feels too much. Panic starts to creep in as I feel like I canât breathe. Gale was right, it is overwhelming. I want it to stop, but I know that it canât. I need to know who I am.
Suddenly I feel a cold hand against mine. Astarion. The coolness of his skin grounds me, his thumb gently stroking the back of my hand calms me.
I see the night that I ended up in the Elfsong Tavern, moving unnoticed through the crowd as I pickpocketed anything I could. I remember realising the pale elf sat at the bar was summoning me over to join him. I remember the feeling that shot through me when he looked into my eyes, like something in us connected.
âLet me buy you a drink.â
âI donât take drinks from strangers.â I tried to push down the feeling and walk past but he gently caught my arm.
âPity. I was really hoping I wouldnât have to tell the guards that we have a thief among us.â He pouts, eyeing my coat pocket where Iâd stashed the things Iâd taken.
âYou been watching me?â
âHard not to. Youâre very watchable. So, about that drinkâŠâ
I take a seat on the stool next to him as he orders two drinks.
âMy nameâs Astarion, by the way. And yours is?â
âY/N.â
âWell then Y/N.â he says as the drinks arrive. He hands one to me and leans in close. âLetâs drink to you darling.â
The longer we talked and the more we drank, the more I let my guard down. I donât know if it was because he was charming, or because I wasnât used to anyone noticing me, but I found myself genuinely enjoying this strangerâs company.
âIâm so glad you blackmailed me into having a drink with you, Iâm actually really enjoying talking to you.â I laugh as I take another drink.
âBlackmail? Oh because of the whole you being a thief thing? I was never actually going to tell on you darling.â He says with a wickedly cheeky grin âI just told you a naughty little lie in the hopes you would stay. I knew when I saw you that I had to talk to you.â
âI canât believe you would be so devious!â I giggle, as I bring my hand to my chest in a mock display of shock.
âYou have no idea how devious I can be, darling.â
Somehow during this flirty exchange weâve ended up with our faces only a few centimetres away from each other. Thereâs an unmistakable tension forming between us and neither one of us wants to break it.
So when he tells me he lives in a palace and invites me back, I barely hesitate before saying yes. After being poor my whole life, a part of me was just intrigued to see how the rich people of Baldurâs Gate lived. But a big part of me was really starting to like this handsome stranger.
When we reached the palace there was a noticeable shift in his demeanour. He led me through the grand building to his room. I remember thinking it was a bit strange how quickly he rushed me through the halls, like he didnât want anyone to see us. But with how much Iâd been drinking the thought didnât stay with me for long. And to be honest I was looking forward to sleeping in a real bed for the first night in a long time.
I could feel the change in his personality once we got to his room. The cool, charming guy act was slipping slightly revealing an insecurity underneath.
âAre you okay?â I ask him as I sit on the end of his bed, watching as he lights some candles around the room.
âOr course darling! Why wouldnât I be?â he puts on an over-the-top display as he saunters towards me, unbuttoning his shirt slowly. âI have the prettiest girl in all of Baldurâs Gate in my bed right now. I couldnât be happier.â
He places a soft hand on my cheek and presses his lips onto mine. Itâs romantic. But I feel something is missing. I push my doubts aside as he gently pushes me back onto his mattress and climbs on top of me. He looks down at me, a smile on his face that doesnât quite reach his eyes.
âYou really are beautiful, you know.â He says sincerely as he leans down to kiss me again.
âSo are you.â I reply, catching him off guard for a second before he doubles down and kisses me even harder. His hands start to roam, exploring my body. But something inside me senses that something is wrong. He doesnât want to do this. I donât know how, but I can tell, heâs only doing this because he thinks I want him to.
I place my hands on his, but he fights to keep them moving. âStop, please... Astarion⊠stop!â
âWhat?!â he snaps, a hint of fear on his face as he sits up again.
âWhat am I doing here?â I ask and he looks confused.
âWell, I think thatâs rather obvious isnât it.â he scoffs, looking down at the fact heâs still sat on top of me. âBut if you still donât know then I must be doing something wrong.â
âNo, I mean, why did you bring me back here?â I ask again, and he looks at me blankly.
âBecause I want to do what it is that I am trying to do with you.â
âYouâre lying.â
âWh- what?â he stutters.
âYouâre lying to me. You donât want to sleep with me.â
âI do, really, I do. Thatâs the problem. I care about you.â
âListen, if you donât want to do this, thatâs perfectly okay Astarion.â I remove myself from underneath him and sit facing him on the bed. âWe donât have to do anything. In fact, Iâd rather not if itâs going to make you uncomfortable. I really like you and Iâm willing to wait until youâre ready.â Astarion looks at me like heâs about to burst into tears. âCome here.â
I pull him in for a hug and feel as he slowly melts into me, allowing himself to be fully embraced. We stay like this for a while until I feel him pull away. He wipes his face, removing any evidence that he had been crying.
âAre you alright? Tell me the truth this time.â
âI- I just-â he begins, quietly. âYouâre not the first person Iâve brought back here. In fact, thereâs been quite a few.â He looks ashamed. âBut of all of them, you are the only one whoâs ever cared about how I feel. People come here, and they use me for what they want, with no regard to whether itâs what I want. And Iâve just accepted that because itâs what I do. Itâs my duty. To perform. To please. To provideâŠâ he pauses, realisation washing over him. âI made a terrible mistake bringing you here.â
âItâs okay.â
âNo! No, no, you donât understand. I should have left you at the tavern. You would have been safe-â
The sound of footsteps in the corridor outside alerts us that someone is coming. Astarion face is pure panic.
âYou need to leave. I need to get you out.â
We get up off the bed and I start to move towards the door, but he pulls me away.
âNot that way, heâs coming that way.â
âWho? Astarion youâre scaring me! Whatâs going on?!â I ask, starting to worry myself now as Astarion moves a curtain revealing a second door.
âNo time- just go out that way. Run, as fast as you can, as far away as you can from this place. Please.â He opens the door and pushes me through it. âIâm sorry.â
He slams the door closed, leaving me in a dark stone corridor. I take a moment to breath before his words come back to me. âRun.â
So, I do. I run through down the corridor as fast as I can until I reach another door at the other end. I reach for the doorknob but before my shaky hand can grip it, I hear a voice telling me to stop. My body reacts without my permission.
âTurn around. Look at me.â
I do as he says and there he is. At the door to Astarionâs room is a tall, pale man with dark hair and red eyes.
âCome here.â
Even though every fibre of me wants to turn and run the other way, my feet carry me towards the man. His eyes burning into me. I stop in front of him, and he looks down at me.
âLeaving so soon?â he shakes his head and tuts. âBut we were just getting to the main course.â He steps aside so the doorway is clear. âIn you go.â
I walk back into the room and see Astarion stood near the bed. His face is pure fear as he watches me with tearful eyes.
âBe still.â Cazador says and my body freezes.
âPlease, Cazador, I have never failed you before. I will never fail you again, just, spare her. Please-â Astarion begging is cut short when Cazador raises a finger to his lips.
âDonât tell me youâve developed feelings for this one?â Cazador laughs. âI thought I taught you better than that. And while I did find the escape attempt, rather amusingâŠâ his voice turns dark ââŠyou will suffer for that.â
âPlease-â
âENOUGH!â Cazadorâs voice booms and if I werenât frozen to the spot, I would have turned and ran again. âYou are pathetic, Astarion. A complete and utter disappointment. I should end you here and now⊠But that would be too easy. No, instead Iâm going to make you watch as I drain her life.â
âCazador, please!â
âSit!â He commands, and Astarion instantly goes and sits on the armchair near his bed. âYou do not remove your eyes from hers until I say so, do you understand.â Astarion nods.
Cazador walks around to stand face to face with me.
âWhatâs so special about you? Hm? What is it about you, that has broken my favoured spawn?â He asks, I say nothing. âYouâre a quiet one⊠for now. Iâll find a way to make you sing.â He tilts his head, studying me, before turning me to face Astarion. âDo you like him? Do you have feelings for him? Answer me!â
âY-Yes.â I stutter ad Cazador circles round behind me.
âHow sweet. And do you know what he is?â he asks, I shake my head. âYou didnât tell her? Oh Astarion, how could you deceive this poor girl?â Cazador leans over my shoulder and brings his lips close to my ear. âHe brought you here for me you know. So that I could drink your blood⊠weâre vampires!â he says proudly, moving to stand in front of me again. âI know, shocking isnât it. But shhh, itâs a secret. Not that youâll be alive for long enough to tell anyone. You see, I am going to kill you now.â
Cazadorâs red eyes stare into mine as he closes in. His cold hand slides down my face and grips my chin harshly, as he tilts my head up and to the side. He brushes my hair away from my neck, moving both hands to grip my shoulders. I feel his tongue lick a stripe up my neck for a second before his teeth sink into my flesh. I hear Astarion cry out, begging Cazador to stop but his voice fades away as I start to drift. Once Cazador has finished drinking from me, he drops my almost dead body to the floor and forces my head to the side so that I am looking at Astarion.
âOne last thing before you leave us, Iâm going to make you forget lover boy over there.â He turns his attention back to Astarion. âBecause of you, sheâs going to die thinking nobody in the world cares about her. Do you understand now what happens when you betray me?â Astarion nods, tears streaming down his face. Cazador crouches down next to me, placing a cold hand on my head and speaking the words of a spell over me. I feel a haze come over me as my memories start to disappear. Cazador removes his hand and leans in closer.
âIâm not done with you. Iâll see you again soon.â He whispers loud enough for only me to hear, before getting up and walking to the door. âYou will stay in that chair looking at her until I send someone to collect you. And then your next punishment will begin.â And then he leaves.
I lay on the ground, blood pouring from my neck, gasping as I try to breath. A strange pale elf sat in a chair staring at me. I wonder who he is, and why he isnât helping me. I wonder why there isnât anyone here to help me. I am alone. I am unloved.
These are the final thoughts in my mind as I finally give in and allow death to take me.
I gasp, opening my eyes and sitting up on the bed as Gale and Shadowheart back off slightly.
âI remember⊠I remember everythingâŠâ I whisper, finally looking up and meeting Astarionâs eye. I almost throw myself at him, pulling him as close as physically possible into a tight hug. And he allows it.
âWeâll leave you two alone.â I hear Gale say, followed by the sound of his and Shadowheartâs retreating footsteps.
âHow do you feel?â Astarion asks as we pull away from our embrace and he takes hold of my hand.
âMixed emotions, itâs complicated. I remember who I am, which is great. But that also means I remember what Iâve lost.â I think about my parents. âI remember that I really am alone in this world.â
âYouâre not alone anymore.â Astarion squeezes my hand. âYou never have to be alone ever again; I will always be here for you.â
âThank you, Astarion. I remember what you did, trying to save me. And Iâm sorry for what I said to you in the dungeon. I was never your victim, I know that now. Cazador was an abusive bully, and you stood up to him. That was a really brave thing to do.â
âI should have killed him years ago. All those people that I seduced, brought to their deaths for him⊠I canât believe he turned them all, had them locked away all that time. At least theyâre free now. We all are. Cazador canât hurt anyone anymore.â
The sound of a group entering the doors to the room draws our attention. The first person to come in is the red Tiefling who has a huge grin on her face when she sees Astarion and I holding hands.
âGale said we had a new guest.â She says as she approaches us. âHello soldier! Iâm Karlach.â
âY/N.â I say with a smile, holding my hand out to shake hers but she pulls me up into a hug.
âKarlach!â Astarion protests.
âSorry, Iâm a hugger.â She says as she releases me. âI heard about what you been through with Cazador. Iâm glad that bastard is dead. Anyway, you ever need anything you just let me know.â
âThank you Karlach. Itâs lovely to meet you.â
âSheâs nice. I like her.â Karlach says and she nudges Astarion with her elbow.
The rest of the group come in and introduce themselves. They spend the day sat indoors with me, telling me tales of how they met and all the things theyâve been up to since. They tell me all about the tadpoles, the mindflayers and the elder brain. It creeps me out a little, the idea that at any moment any of them could transform but Tav explains that thereâs this guardian emperor whoâs been protecting them. I find it all fascinating.
Before we know it, the day is almost over, and the sun is starting to set. I feel a sadness creep in at the thought of saying goodbye to this group. And even though I know that when the elder brain is destroyed, Astarion will be joining me in the Underdark, the thought of being away from him hurts. But I push it down and soon Astarion and I set out into the night.
As we step out of the tavern, the light of the moon makes Astarionâs silver hair glisten. He turns to me.
âThereâs something Iâd like to show you, if thatâs alright.â He seems nervous. I take his hand.
âLead the way.â
We walk hand and hand through the city for a while until we reach the city graveyard. He leads me through the grounds until we reach an old gravestone that has clearly been left alone for years. Astarion crouches down in front of it, clearing the vines and dirt.
âNearly two hundred years and I never came back.â He stands, wiping the dirt of his hands. âNot since the night I woke up down there. I had to punch a hole in the coffin and claw my way through six feet of dirt. Then when I finally broke the surface retching up dirt and congealed blood, Cazador was waiting. From that day on I was his. Thereâs almost nothing left of the person I was. Just a name on a rock. For nearly two centuries I stalked the streets like a ghost while the person I was lay here, dead and buried. Now I need to figure out who I am. What I want.â
âAnd what do you want?â
âYou⊠I want you. I feel safe with you. Seen. And whatever the future holds for me, I donât want to lose that.â
âYou wonât. Whatever comes nextâŠâ I take both his hands in mine. âIâve got you.â
âThank you.â he says, and we kiss. Itâs tender. Truthful.
âWell, I should probably fix this.â He takes out a dagger and kneels in front of his gravestone. He spends some time carving something and when he moves back, I see that he has written the current date on the stone.
I pick a flower from a nearby bush and kneel down next to Astarion, placing the flower on his grave. He says nothing but gives me a small smile. We sit in silence for a few minutes, before Astarion speaks again.
âIâve been dead in the ground for long enough. Itâs time to try living again.â He holds my hand. âWith everything life has to offer.â
âMeaningâŠ?â I smile.
He places his other hand on my cheek and once again kisses me, this time more passionate. This time, I can tell he wants this. He gently guides me till Iâm lying on my back and crawls on top of me, smiling down at me.
âAre you okay with this?â he asks, and I nod.
âAre you?â I respond.
âDefinitely.â
I pull his face closer to mine and we pick up where we left off the night that I died, only this time I know itâs real. Thereâs no deception, no ulterior motive. Just love.
After, we lay on the grass wrapped in each otherâs arms and watch the stars. Here in this moment, itâs easy to forget everything else. What weâve both been though, what comes next with the elder brain. None of it matters when weâre together.
But I know this moment will soon come to an end.
âI donât want to go to the Underdark.â I say suddenly, sitting up and looking at him. âI know you said the city isnât safe but want to stay with you, and your friends. For the first time since my parents died, I feel like I belong somewhere. Like I have a family again.â
âBut you canât walk in the sun. And once I get this tadpole out, I wonât be able to either.â
âThen Iâll stay in the tavern. And when the time comes, weâll go to the Underdark together. Let me stay with you.â
âSebastion and Hapdim are waiting for you, wont they worry when you donât turn up.â
âIâll write them a letter.â I pause as Astarion thinks. âPlease.â
Astarion hesitates.
âOkay. But if you change your mind, if being stuck indoors at Elfsong becomes too much, Iâm taking you to Sebastian.â
âDeal. Thank you!â I kiss him again and I can feel him smiling
âKarlach is going to be so excited you know. She spent all day trying to convince me to let you stay.â Astarion reveals and I laugh, laying back down with my head on his chest.
We stay together like this in the quiet of the night, until the sun starts to rise before heading back to the tavern.
I know this set up is only temporary. But for now, its perfect. Just me, the pale elf and our chosen family.
ahhhh i hate writings endings!! i really hope you enjoyed reading this as much as i enjoyed writing it. please like/comment/reblog :)

âWho is he?â a person stood next to Astarion asks, nodding toward Sebastian.
âItâs not just him â I know so many of these faces.â He stares at me for a moment longer then forces his eyes away. âTheyâre my conquests. I pursued them, seduced them, then brought them here to Cazador. He told us he was feeding on them.â He sounds genuinely ashamed of his actions. âBut he turned them to spawn. He turned every last one so heâd have souls for this cursed ritual!â
âHow long?â Sebastion asks quietly. âHow long have I been down here?â
âOne hundred and seventy years. You were one of my first.â
âMy family â my friends â theyâre goneâŠâ Sebastians tears turn to anger. âYou took them from me. You took everything from me!â
âWeâll set you free.â The stranger says.
âFree? Weâll never be free while that monster lives.â
âThatâs why weâre here. To destroy Cazador.â
âWhatever you do just do it quickly. I canât go on waitingâŠâ Sebastion starts to cry again.
âWeâll be back.â Astarion says and looks at me again. âYou have my word.â
Itâs only as Astarion leaves that I realise he is followed by not just the one stranger, but a small group of them. A couple of humans, a druid, a half elf, a githyanki and a red flaming Tiefling. They go in the same direction that Cazador has gone however long ago it was he was here tormenting us.
The crowd disperses once more, and I approach Sebastian.
âI knew Iâd been here a long time. I didnât think it was that long.â He almost whispers. âI always hoped that maybe, by some miracle, one day I would get out of here. That I could see my family again. But itâs too late. Thereâs no one out there for me nowâŠâ
âIâm so sorry Sebastian.â I place a hand on his shoulder.
âMaybe itâs for the best. They wouldnât have been safe around me. Not like this. Iâm better off alone.â
âYouâre not alone Seb. Weâre your family now.â Hapdim says, and I nod.
A small sad smile appears on Sebastianâs face.
I feel faint. I bring my hands to my head in an attempt to somehow stop the dungeon from spinning around me.
âWoah, are you alright?â Sebastian grips my arm as I sway towards him. âI got you. Lean on me.â
âI donât feel well.â My words slurring together as Sebastian guides me to a quieter place. He sits me down, then sits next to me. I instantly lean against him, resting my head on his shoulder.
âYou haven't eaten since you got here. Your body is struggling.â Hapdim says, crouching down in front of me.
âAm I dying? I feel like Iâm dying.â
âIf Cazador was going to let you die heâd do it when he was here to see it. Youâre going nowhere.â Sebastian has his arm around me, and I feel my eyes growing heavy.
âShe needs blood.â Hapdim says.
âThere wonât be any more rats until tomorrow and we donât know when Astarion will be back to release us. If he even does come back.â He replies. âWhat can we do?â
âWe make her as comfortable as possible, and we wait.â
My consciousness drifts in and out for a while. I have no way of telling how long, all I know is Sebastian and Hapdim remain. I can hear their voices beside me. It reminds me of when I first woke up here. Listening to them speak, without knowing who they were. That feels like so long ago now. How long have I been here?
I find myself back in my daydream, the one where Iâm an artist. I leave my fairytale cottage and walk through the woods to the edge of a cliff that overlooks the sea, where I set up my easel and begin painting the view. A dragon flies overhead and out across the water, following a boat that sails into the distance. Itâs a stunning sight and I paint as fast as I can to try to capture it.
âDarling?â a familiar voice calls out behind me.
âLet me just finish this.â I respond, still painting.
âYou need to wake up now.â
âIâm almost done.â
âOpen your eyes.â
âTheyâre already openâŠâ I say confused, as I turn to see Astarion behind me.
âCome back to me.â
He puts his hand on my cheek and my eyes shoot open.
The beautiful daydream is long gone and Iâm back in the dungeon.
I lift my heavy head from Sebastianâs shoulder. Hapdim is stood nervously next to a two people I recognise as part of the group who were at the gate with Astarion. Behind them the other prisoners are being ushered out of the dungeon through the open gate by the rest of the unknown group.
Astarion is crouching in front of me.
âHello darling. I think itâs time we get out of here, donât you?â
I realise Astarion still has his hand on my cheek, and I flinch away from him. He retracts his hand, I notice itâs stained with blood. Sensing my fear, he holds his hands up in surrender.
âItâs alright, Iâm not going to hurt you. Youâre safe with me.â
âSafe with you? Itâs because of you that Iâm here! What Cazador did to me, to Sebastian, to so many others⊠it all started with YOU!â I snap, pushing him away as angry tears filling my eyes. He falls back from his crouched position onto his heels.
âYou donât remember?â He looks at me with hurt. âIt didnât work. I thought killing him would work, but youâre still scared of me.â
âWhat are you talking about? What didnât work?â
âCazador put a memory charm on you. I thought that him being dead would mean the charmed would be removed but alas, no. Even beyond the grave heâs still tormenting us.â
âWhy would he do that?â
âHe was punishing me for trying to help you escape. He realised, when I was begging him to spare you, that I-â he pauses, looking into my eyes ââŠhave feelings for you."
Something in my heart reacts to his confession, for a moment the fear is replaced with some tenderness.
"He made you forget and then forced me to watch as he murdered you, so that Iâd know you died thinking I didnât care about you. I had no idea he was actually going to turn you and lock you away down here.â
âIs there any way to bring her memories back? Because currently she doesnât even know who she is.â Hapdim says and Astarion looks at me with worry.
âPlease, Astarion, if you know anything about who I am, please tell me?â I ask him with hope.
âOnly your name⊠Y/N.â
The name stirs something in me. Recognition.
âY/N. My name is Y/N!â a wave of emotion hits me as I finally have some part of my identity back. âIâm Y/N.â
Astarion gestures for the unknown woman to come closer. She kneels in front of me with a comforting smile.
âHello Y/N, Iâm Shadowheart. Iâm just going to check you over.â she says, as Astarion gets up to give her space. He stands behind her, watching nervously as she places her hand gently on my head. I feel a calming warmth radiate from her. âItâs strange, that memory charm is only supposed to remove one event from a personâs mind but seems something went wrong. It removed her whole life.â
âCan you remove the curse?â Astarion asks Shadowheart as she stands.
âTechnically yes, but itâs tricky. Iâll need Galeâs help.â
âYou go on ahead and get things prepared. Weâll meet you at camp.â
Shadowheart nods and flashes me a quick smile before running out after the group that have now exited the dungeon. I rest my head back on Sebastianâs shoulder, feeling another wave of exhaustion come over me.
âDarling?â Astarion calls gently and I open my eyes. âYou really need to feed.â
âNo-â
âWe need to leave the palace while itâs still dark, but you wonât make it anywhere in this state.â
âI donât want to drink blood.â
âYou canât keep living like this.â Sebastian joins in.
âI wonât do it!â
âBut why?â Astarion fails to hide the frustration in his voice.
âBecause this is the only thing I have control over. Itâs the only choice I get to make. I didnât get a choice when you picked me as your victim!â I cry, Astarion flinches. âI didnât get a choice when Cazador took my memories and turned me into this⊠I didnât get a choice when he forced me to stay still while I had things carved into my skin. But now I get to choose. I refuse to be the monster that he made me⊠I refuse!â
âListen to me.â Astarion says gently, crouching in front of me and taking my hands âYou have another choice. Choose to take your life back from Cazador. He took your life from you and staying in this state, youâre letting him keep it. Choose to live. Become Y/N again.â
âBut Y/N isnât a murderer.â I argue.
âYou donât have to kill anyone. Tav here has been letting me feed on them for weeks and they are very much still alive.â Astarion says, gesturing to the person stood next to Hapdim. Tav gives a small, slightly awkward wave.
âBut I thought we were forbidden from feeding on thinking creatures?â Hapdim says. âIsnât that one of Cazadorâs rules?â
âAh, yes. That. Well, Cazador is gone now, and so are his rules.â Astarion takes a breath. âPlease Y/N.â
I think about it for a moment, taking a deep steadying breath. Astarion has a point. If I keep on like this, itâs like Iâm letting Cazador win. Letting him control me even after heâs gone.
âOkay.â I nod, relief washing over Astarion.
âThank you darling.â He breathes a sigh and looks over his shoulder. âTav⊠as the only non-vampire here⊠I donât supposeâŠ?â
âOf course.â Tav rolls their eyes jokingly. âHappy to help. How dâyou wanna do this?â
Tav and Astarion both look to me expectantly and my heart races.
âI- I donât know. I donât know what Iâm doing.â
âFor a first time, the wrist is probably easier.â Astarion says casually, as if itâs totally normal to be talking about me biting someone and drinking their blood. âIs that alright with you Tav?â
Tav nods, coming to sit on the floor next to me.
âUh, itâs probably best for you two to leave at this point.â Astarion says to Sebastian and Hapdim. âThe bloodlust will be hard for you to control, especially after being trapped down here for all those years. Tav doesnât want 3 hungry vampires hanging off them. You can wait upstairs.â
Sebastian looks to me for confirmation that Iâm okay. I nod. He gives my hand a quick squeeze before getting up and leaving with Hapdim. Without Sebastian to lean against I feel my body start to drift. Astarion quickly takes his place, using his body to stop me falling.
The three of us sit for a moment, leaning against the wall behind us. Eventually Astarion asks if Iâm ready and I reluctantly agree. Tav shifts slightly and hold their arm out for me. I reach out to take it, my hand shaking. As our skin touches, I notice how warm they are. A stark contrast to Sebastian and Astarionâs cool skin. I can feel their pulse. I can smell their blood. It makes me start to salivate. I lift their arm closer to my face, my anxiety increases with every second. Am I really going to do this?
Astarion place his hand underneath mine, helping me hold Tavâs arm steady in my shaky grip. âChoose to live.â He whispers as together we raise Tavâs arm to my lips.
With one final deep breath I open my mouth and sink my teeth in. If Tav feels any pain, they do a good job of hiding it. The warm liquid fills my mouth and for the briefest of moments I am repulsed. But then the taste hits my tongue and suddenly Iâm taken over. No matter how much I drink, I canât get enough. Its euphoric. I feel my senses come alive. My body filling with strength with every gulp. Itâs almost pleasurable? Tav groans beside me. Are they enjoying this as much as I am? I can hear Astarionâs voice, but I donât hear the words. I feel him starting to pull Tavâs arm away, and I fight to keep it in place. I donât want this to end. But heâs more powerful than I am and he manages to pull us apart. In one swift move he pushes Tav away and gets himself up onto his knees in front of me. Both arms pin me to the wall as I fight to get him off. I feel frenzied. I want more blood.
âTav, back away. Now!â he shouts and Tav obeys, getting to their feet and putting a distance between us. âY/N, youâre okay. This feeling will pass. Just breathe with me.â
âI need MORE!â I shout, my voice sounded like Iâve never heard it before. It scares me.
âThatâs the bloodlust talking, not Y/N. I need Y/N to come back now.â
He stays with me like this for a while, and as the bloodlust subsides something else hits me. A whole mixture of complicated emotions. Guilt over what Iâve just done. Disgust at how much I enjoyed it. Grief for the life I donât even remember but can never go back to.
I start to sob.
Astarion loosens his grip on my shoulders and pulls me into him for a hug. I resist at first but I soon melt into him. My face pressed against his chest, I soak his shirt with my tears. And he lets me. He doesnât pull away. He doesnât try to talk to me. He just holds me until the tears stop and my breathing calms.

Part One | Series Masterlist
-- -- -- -- -- --
Itâs amazing how time loses all meaning when youâre trapped in a windowless dungeon. I try to keep track of the days by how often the rats run by, but after a while I lose count.
My stomach aches with hunger, but no matter how bad it gets I just canât bring myself to drink from a rat. Even Hapdim has given up trying to convince me. I think a part of me worries that if I give in and drink blood, then I really am what Cazador has made me. By not drinking, I have some sort of control left. Or at least thatâs what Iâve tricked myself into believing.
I feel so weak.
I was hoping my memories would have returned by now, but Iâm still no closer to finding out who I am. I wonder if my family or friends miss me, if I have any. A small hope lingers inside that if I do have people out there, theyâll be looking for me and someone will find us.
I spend most of my time sat in the darkness, waiting. Not just to be saved, but for literally anything to happen. Even if it was Cazador coming to drag me away for one of his twisted punishments that the others have told me so much about. At least then Iâd have a chance to end this.
Sebastian checks on me a lot. Anytime he catches a rat, he offers some to me. But he never pushes when I refuse. He just sits near me and feeds himself. He tells me tales about his life before Astarion. I live through his memories.
Eventually I get my wish. Something happens.
The sound of doors opening somewhere gets everyoneâs attention. Others rush to the still locked gates of our cell, but I remain sat down. Iâm so empty that my body wouldnât let me get up even if I wanted to.
The buzz of excitement dies in an instant and everyone backs away from the gate. Through the gap in the crowd, I see Cazador at the gate. He looks directly at me and again something stirs in me. I feel terrified and simultaneously drawn to him somehow.
âAh, our new arrival. I almost forgot.â He smiles and sharp toothed grin. âBring her to me.â
Some of the other prisoners immediately move and grab hold of me, dragging me and dropping me at the gate. He produces a small ornate dagger from his pocket and passes it through the bars to Wensleydale, who is standing closest.
âMark her for me.â Cazador commands and Wensleydaleâs red eyes flash brightly. He pushes me back and kneels next to me as he pulls my shirt up to reveal my stomach. The moment the blade makes contact with my skin, pain courses through my body. I scream, I arch my back, I kick my legs, I try to fight.
âBe still!â Cazadorâs voice booms and my body reacts. Though I want to fight, I cannot. My body is frozen. A memory flashes in my head. This isnât the first time heâs forced me not to move.
Cazador tuts. âI said be still. I did not say be silent. I want the whole palace to hear you sing.â
Suddenly my mouth can open and my screaming resumes. It keeps on until Wensleydale finally stands up and hands Cazador back his knife. I lay there panting.
Cazador crouches down, peering through the bars. He takes a moment to inspect whatever has been done to me before making eye contact with me.
âGood girl.â He almost purrs before standing and walking away. I hear the sound of a door bang shut and instantly Wensleydale is at my side.
âIâm sorry! Iâm so sorry! I couldnât stop- he made me- Iâm so sorry-â he sobs and tries to touch me, but Sebastians pulls him away.
âLeave her alone, give her space.â He says, putting an arm around me as he helps me up and leads me back to my spot in the dark.
I wince as he helps me sit, pain shooting through the skin of my stomach. I try to lift my shirt, but Sebastian places his hand on mine to stop me.
âItâs better if you donât look. Trust me.â
âWhat did he do to me?â
âHe carved a rune. All of us have one but we donât know why or what it means. It will heal, but it will leave a scar. There is a small mercy in it not being on your face.â
I look at him and then look around the dungeon. Hapdim is trying to comfort a still sobbing Wensleydale. Some are looking at me with concern, while others are trying to peer through the bars to see where Cazador went.
âI donât understand.â I say quietly. âWeâre all vampires. And I have blood all over me. Why is no one trying to bite me right now?â
âWe are forbidden to drink from a thinking creature. One of Cazadorâs rules that we have no choice but to follow. Another one being we cannot disobey an order.â He glances at Wensleydale. âHe had no choice.â
âI know, itâs not his fault. Cazadorâs power is terrifying.â I sigh. âThat is the second time he has had complete control over my body.â
âThe second? You remembered something?â
âWhen he commanded me to be still, I had a flashback from the night he took my life. He ordered me not to move then too, right before he bit me.â
âAstarion wasnât holding you?â he seems genuinely surprised. âThen where was he?â
âI- I donât know⊠asleep maybe? Why does it matter?â
âBecause no one else in here has a story like that. We all have basically the same one. Vampire seduces us. Vampire takes us to bed. Vampire holds us down while even more evil vampire drains our blood.â
âWell, I was almost out the door by the time Cazador got there. I was reaching for the door handle, and he stopped me.â
âYou were escaping?â
âYeah, I think I was.â
âThatâs never happened before.â Sebastian looks at me in amazement. âGods, I wish you had your memories! If we can figure out how you almost got away, we might have a chance of finally escaping this dungeon.â
-- -- -- -- -- --
Since I canât remember anything about my life before waking up here, Iâve decided to imagine myself a new one. I spend most of my time sat in the dark, head leant back against the wall, eyes closed. Creating images in my head of what my life could have been. Maybe I was an artist, who painted beautiful landscapes and portraits of the nobles. Or maybe I was a noble myself, walking around all day in gorgeous hand-crafted dresses, being waited on by staff. I could have been a pirate. Sailing the seas, causing trouble with my band of misfits.
Iâm deep in a daydream when Hapdim shakes me back to reality.
âThereâs someone here.â
I get up and head toward the crowd just in time to see Sebastian throw himself at the gate, reaching angrily through the bars. He slides to the floor. He looks broken. I look from him to the pale elf standing on the other side of the gate. His silver hair shining. His red eyes full of remorse, look up and find me. I feel my breath catch in my throat.

Summary: waking up in a dungeon full of vampires with no memory and a sudden hunger for blood... never should have accepted that drink from the pale elf in the tavern.
Pairing: Astarion x Reader (though he isn't in this chapter), platonic Sebastian x reader
Word Count: 2.3k
Warnings: this whole series is gonna be suuuuper angsty so strap in guys. mentions of blood, torture, death... Cazador is a walking trigger warning lets be honest.
Author Notes: Okay so this Astarion 'one shot' ended up being waaaaay longer than I planned so its going to be a mini series instead. Huzzah! I have *almost* finished by first BG3 playthrough (I literally just have to defeat the elder brain) and I also play dnd so I've tried to put some of that nerdy knowledge to use here. That being said, I have taken creative licence so don't come for me if vampire/spawn lore isn't accurate... Hope you enjoy! as always spelling and grammar are not my strongest skills so please be kind :)

Unfamiliar voices surround me as the cold of the stone floor tingles at my back.
âHe got another one.â
âBet he tricked her same way he tricked us.â
âWonder how long before she wakes.â
I want to tell them that I am awake. I want to move. I want to open my eyes.
But my eyes are fixed shut, no matter how much I will them to open. I just donât have the strength.
I feel empty.Â
Like the life has been drained from my body. But also literally empty, like I havenât eaten for a week. I donât think Iâve ever felt this hungry before in my life. Hunger to the point of pain.
But still, I canât move.
So I lay there lifelessly, clinging to the small hope that soon whatever has happened to me will wear off and I will be able to move again.
That I will be okay.
I have no idea how long Iâve been like this. Drifting in and out of consciousness with only the still unseen voices for company. I donât know who they are, these people that seem to be always with me.
I felt one touch me. Just once. A hand on my shoulder. A voice that sounded kind.
âWhen are you going to wake up?â she had said quietly to me but was quickly told keep away by another voice that sounded less kind.
âNo donât touch her! She might be an angry one. A lot of them wake up angry until they get some blood.â
Blood.
Why does hearing that word make my stomach ache so much.
I take a deep involuntary intake of breath through my nose and itâs like my senses come alive.
I can smell it.
Blood.
And my mouth starts to water as my stomach continues to ache.
I hear a low, guttural groan and realise the sound came from me.
âSheâs waking up!â
âAbout bloody time.â
âStand back, give her space.â
For the first time in a long time, I manage to open my eyes. I turn my head in the direction of the voices to see a small crowd of strangers staring back at me inquisitively.
I try to sit up, but my arms have no strength. One of the strangers starts to walk toward me but is held back.
âKeep your distance.â A man says.
âIf she was going to attack us she would have done it by now.â The young lady says as she shakes herself free and crouches down in front of me with a cautious smile. She helps me sit up and I finally take in my surroundings.
Dark stone walls make up 3 sides of the room, the other side being a tall golden gate that doesnât appear to have a handle.
âWhat is this place?â I ask, my voice croaky from not being used for a while. I glance up at the lady closest to me. She has some sort of markings carved into her face. It looks quite fresh. I look over to the crowd of others sharing this space and notice they too have similar markings. âWho are you?â
âWeâre like you. Prisoners.â The lady replies sadly.
âVictims.â A man in the crowd says âHis playthings. Forever waiting here for his next punishment.â
I feel my eyes go wide as he closes in on me. I shuffle backwards away from him until my back hits the wall and I can go no further. I pull my knees up to my chest, wrapping my arms around myself.
âStop it, canât you see youâre scaring her!â
âShe should be scared. Heâll break her soon, just like he broke all of us!â
âThatâs enough Sebastian!â the lady warns before turning her attention back to me with a sympathetic look. âIâm sorry. Heâs been here a long time, longer than most of us. It takes its toll. Today seems to be one of his bad days.â She comes to sit on the floor next to me, leaning her back against the stone wall. âMy nameâs Hapdim.â She pauses. âCan you tell me your name?â
I think for a moment, and it dawns on me that I donât.
âItâs alright.â She says, seeing the look on my face.
âI donât know who I am⊠I- I donât remember⊠why canât I remember?â I can feel panic rising.
âI didnât either at first. It can take some time after you wake for your memories to come back. And you weâre out for so long⊠do you remember anything? Anything at all? About your life, or where you were before- how you got here?â
I close my eyes and take a deep breath as I try to focus on something, anything. But its like something in my mind is blocking me. I open my eyes and look at Hapdim, feeling tears threatening to spill down my cheeks. I shake my head. She gives me a reassuring smile.
âItâll come to you, give it time.â
âThat bastard really did a number on this one didnât he.â Sebastian scoffs and Hapdim glares at him.
âWho?â I ask.
âDonât-â Hapdim warns but Sebastian ignores her.
âCazador.â
Something inside me responds to that name. My head pounds as brief glimpses of memories flash in my mind.
A door. My shaky hand reaching for the doorknob. A voice asking, no⊠commanding me to stop. To turn around. To look at him. A tall pale man with dark hair. Red eyes staring into mine as he closes in. Hunter vs prey. His cold hand reaches out to me. Touches my face. Slides down to and firmly grips my chin. Tilts my head up and to the side. Brushes my hair away from my neck and grips my shoulder. His tongue on my neck. The last thing I hear is someone else crying out, begging for him to stop right before he sinks his teeth in.
My eyes shoot open and I gasp for air.
âYouâre okay, youâre fine. Just breathe.â Hapdimâs grips my arm attempting to ground me as my hand finds the small bite mark on my neck.
âCazador did this? Heâs a vampire?â I ask breathlessly. Everyone in Baldurâs Gate knew of Cazador Szarr, the powerful and wealthy lord who lived in Szarr Palace.
Hapdim nods solemnly, tilting her head to show me her matching bite mark scar on her own neck. I look to the others; they all have them too.
âHow is he getting away with this?â I say, getting to my feet âHow is he kidnapping people without anyone in Baldurâs Gate noticing?!â
âIt isnât just Cazador. He has help.â Sebastian says grimly. âHis favoured vampires that do his dirty work for him. Seducing people, bringing them to the palace for him. They have no idea that once they step inside, they will never leave.â
âIs- is that how you came to be here?â
âItâs how we all got here... You included.â He says and I shake my head. âYou donât remember yet, but you will. Enjoy the amnesia while it lasts. Itâs much less painful than knowing the truth.â
He skulks away into the crowd, leaving his words to sink in. Hapdim places a gentle hand on my shoulder.
âRATS!!â the voice of a young girl shouting sends the dungeon into chaos. People throwing themselves against the bars, reaching through to grab something.
âWhatâs happening?!â I ask as Hapdim moves past me.
âWait here.â She says before joining the crowd. A few chaotic moments later and the crowd starts to disperse. Hapdim returns with a rat in her hand. âYou must be hungry.â
âI am not eating a rat!â I exclaim in disgust.
âYou donât have to eat it, you just have to drink from it.â She gestures to the others who have now began biting into and sucking blood from the rats they caught.
âIâm not doing that! Iâd rather die.â
âNot an option Iâm afraid.â Hapdim replies. âYou wonât starve to death. Youâll just starve. When Cazador took your life, he took your death too. You wonât die unless he decides you will.â
âIf she donât want it, I do.â A younger man appears, eyes fixed on the rat.
âBack off Wensleydale. Get your own food.â Hapdim warns.
âBut I didnât catch one, they ran by the gates too fast.â
âThen youâll have to try again tomorrow wonât you.â Hapdim turns her back on Wensleydale as he moves away to start begging off others. âRats only run through here once a day, so itâs either feed now or wait till tomorrow.â
I look around the room, the blood-stained faces of Cazadorâs victims feeding on rats like animals. âHow have you all just accepted this?â
âWhat are we supposed to do?â another man responds, handing his rat corpse to Wensleydale who instantly starts trying to get any last drops of blood out.
âAnd go where exactly? We canât go outside. The sun burns us.â He pulls up his sleeve to show a burn scar.
âYouâve been outside?â I ask, a hint of hope that if he found a way out so could I. But he shakes his head.
âItâs one of Cazadorâs games. Strap you a chair. Open a window. See how long it takes for you to start screaming.â The manâs voice breaks as he looks down, pulling his sleeve to cover his burned arm again.
I say nothing. I canât.
âAre you going to feed or not?â Hapdim holds the rat out to me.
âYou have it.â I say quietly as I turn and walk away from her. Away from the crowd. Away from the light that spills through the bars from the corridor.
I sit in the shadows, thinking over everything Iâve learned since waking up here.
I try again to remember my name. Who I am. How I got here. Anything really.
But itâs all still gone.
Someone clears their throat in the darkness near me. I turn to see Sebastian making his way towards me.
âSorry, I didnât know you were here.â I say, wiping my face. âIâll leave you alone-â
âStay, itâs fine.â He says, a gentleness in his voice I havenât heard yet. He sits near me. âI am sorry for how I have spoken to you since you woke. It was unnecessarily cruel of me. as Hapdim said, today is one of my bad days. Not that any day in here is particularly good.â
âItâs okay.â
âEvery time someone new arrives, it brings it all back. Not just being bitten by Cazador, but everything that led up to that moment. And it makes me feel⊠stupid.â
âWhat do you mean?â
âI really thought he liked me. But he was just pretending. Just playing along to get me here.â
âWho...? Cazador?â
âAstarion.â
Something inside me stirs at that name, a flicker of recognition. Pale skin. Red eyes. Pointed ears. A beautiful face, framed by curls of silver hair.
âYou know him.â Sebastian states, noticing the look on my face. âHe got you too, didnât he.â
âI- I think so. I donât remember much, just his face.â
âThat face.â He lets out a short laugh. âThatâs how he gets you. Lures you in with his beauty and traps you with his charm. I wish Iâd never stepped foot in that gods-forsaken tavern.â
âIs that where you met him?â I ask, hoping Sebastianâs story might bring my own memories back. âIf you donât mind talking about it, that is.â
âYes. And Iâd wager itâs where you did too. Most who were brought here by him met him in one tavern or another. He gets you just drunk enough so you canât make good decisions. Easier for him that way.â
Another image flashes into my mind. The pale elf handing me a drink. Leaning in, closing the gap between us. His velvet voice in my ear; âLetâs drink to you, darling.â
âWhat happened next?â I ask, partly to Sebastian but partly also to myself. What did we do after we drank? I need to know.
âHe told me he lived in the palace and that I should come home with himâŠâ
âYou know, I donât usually tell people who Iâve just met this but, I live in Szarr palace. Iâd love to take you there, show you around. My room is especially exquisite.â
âI stupidly agreed, of course. Iâd never so much as been kissed before and now here I was, a beautiful man wanting to take me to bed. How was I supposed to say no.â Sebastian looks down, playing with his hands nervously. This is hard for him to talk about. âHe kissed me so passionately, I can almost still feel it.â
A soft hand on my cheek. His lips pressed to mine. Sinking into the softness of his mattress.
âI fell asleep when we finished. Wrapped in his arms, I felt so safe. I had no idea the trap I had just fallen into.â Sebastians eyes suddenly snap to mine. âAnd then Cazador arrived.â
âIâm sorry.â
âHe held me down as Cazador took my life. Didnât take his eyes off mine.â
I take a shaky breath as I reach across to gently squeeze Sebastians hand. He looks shocked at the sudden contact, but he doesnât pull away.
âThank you for sharing that with me. It canât have been easy to relive that.â
âDid it help? Do you remember now?â
âBits, yes.â I nod. âSimilar to you. He gave me drinks, took me back to his bed and we kissed.â
âNothing else?â
âThatâs all I got for now.â I shrug. But then the final memory flashes again. âActually, there is one more thing. Did he ever apologise to you?â
Sebastian laughs. âApologise?! That monster? Absolutely not. Why do you ask?â
I think about telling him but decide against it.
âNo reason. Just wondered if he might feel regret.â
âHeâd need a heart for that. And Iâm damn well sure he hasnât got one.â
A/N: this is the start of a two part (possibly more if people like it) story to please the David Thewlis hyperfixation my brain currently has. Hope you enjoy! as always spelling and grammar are not my strongest skills so please be kind :)

Iâd never paid much attention to the moon, other than the occasional glance up to admire itâs beauty on a dark night. Iâd never stopped to consider the danger that lurked beneath it. That is until I met Remus.Â
I work in a small independent book shop in the middle of a small independent village. No one really knows this village exists aside from the people who live here and there are only around 300 or so of us. I was working in the bookshop the day I met Remus. Itâs not very often you meet new people in this village when so he walked into the shop I felt my heart jump with excitement. His gentle nature, kind smile and enthusiasm for books caught my attention and I quickly developed a crush on him. I kicked myself for not asking for his number as I watched him leaving the shop, thinking Iâd blown my opportunity and that Iâd never see him again.Â
To my surprise (and relief) he came back the following day. And the day after that. And the day after that.Â
He came back to the shop every single day for almost a week, each time buying a new book before talking to me for at least an hour about the book heâd purchased the previous day. It was like weâd started our own little book club.Â
âWell lovely chatting you as always. Iâll see you tomorrow.â he said on the Saturday as he turned to leave the shop.Â
âActually weâre closed on Sundays.â I replied regretfully, half considering opening up the shop just for him.Â
âOhâ he responded disappointed, thinking for a moment âWell I guess youâll have to let me take you out somewhere else then.â
âLike, a dateâŠ?â I tested, feeling butterflies as I waited for his answer.Â
âIf thatâs okay with you.â He suddenly sounded nervous. âYou don't have to of course, if youâd rather not-â
âRemusâ I said gently, interrupting him before he had a chance to fully spiral. âI thought youâd never ask.âÂ
âYou- you want to?â The hope in his eyes melted my heart.Â
âIâve wanted to since the day you first walked in.âÂ
The next day we met up outside the closed bookshop. He brought flasks of coffee and together we walked through the village and shared stories about our lives with each other. He told me about how he spent the past year working as a teacher at some private boarding school but recently moved back to the area after having enough of dealing with ârich overbearing parentsâ. I told him how Iâd moved to this village 6 months ago after splitting with my ex, opening up to him about the awful way Iâd been treated which explained why I wanted a fresh start in the middle of nowhere.Â
Weâd become so distracted in our conversation that I didnât even realise how far weâd walked until we arrived at the edge of the forest.Â
âEverything alright dear?â He asked, noticing my hesitation to follow him.Â
âThis is the entrance to wolf woods.â I say and he nods. âDid you mean to bring us here?âÂ
The forest wasnât really called wolf woods, thatâs just the nickname given to it by the locals because if you listen into the night when the moon is full you can almost hear the sounds of a wolf howling. No one had ever actually seen a wolf, but the villagers still would never get near just in case.Â
âI must admit I got so caught up listening to your story I lost track of where we were going. I didnât mean to bring you so close to the forest. Iâm sorry if I scared you.â
âOh no, Iâm not scared!â I say with a smile and he looks at me confused.
âBut the wolf lives here.â
âIâve read a lot about them and I think theyâre beautiful and misunderstood creatures. Iâm more concerned that if there is a wolf living in these woods then two humans walking into its home might startle it and make it feel unsafe.â When I looked at Remus I swear I saw a tear in his eye. âAre you okay?âÂ
âIâve never heard mugg-â he corrected himself âperson talk so kindly about a monster before.âÂ
âI don't believe theyâre monsters. But even if they were, everyone deserves kindnessâŠâ I say, taking a step to close the gap between us.â âŠeveryone deserves love.âÂ
Remus suddenly leant down and kissed me, taking my breath away, before pulling away flustered.Â
âSorry, I don't know what came over me-â he starts breathlessly but I grab his face and pull him in for another kiss, this one lasting longer as we both melted into each other.Â
That was the first of many kisses I shared with Remus as we started seeing each other. As the months went by I noticed a trend in his behaviour. Once a month heâd be gone for a couple of days on what he jokingly referred to as a âsuper secret work tripâ but would never actually go into detail about. When I tried to ask him more about these trips or even what he did for work the conversation would always go elsewhere. He would often come back from these trips with cuts and bruises that heâd try to hide from me. His energy would be low and though heâd try to put on a happy face I could tell he was down.Â
After one particularly bad trip where he came back using a cane to help him walk I sat him down on the sofa in my living room and pulled up a chair to sit in front of him as I asked him for the truth. He gave me a sad smile, and started to explain everything. I sat and listened, occasionally asking a question to help me understand, while he told me about magic and wizards and muggles and Hogwarts. It amazed me to find out this whole other world existed right under my nose. It also terrified me a little to learn of someone he referred to as âthe dark lordâ, but Remus assured me that weâd be safe.Â
âSo⊠you're a wizard?â I asked and he nodded. I smiled. âThatâs pretty cool.âÂ
âThereâs more.â His face turned serious as he took my hand. He breathed deep and I could tell he was afraid of what he had to say next. âThere is a wolf that lives in the forest. But heâs not beautiful like the wolves youâve read about in your nature books. This one really is a monster. And Iâm really hoping that you meant it when you said everyone deserves love because-â he stopped, trying to calm himself with another deep breath. âY/NâŠâ
âItâs okay.â I said, squeezing his hand tighter as he started to cry.Â
âItâs not okay, itâs not!â He cries and I placed one hand on his cheek, wiping tears away with my thumb as they rolled down past his scars. âI canât-â
âYou can Remus. Nothing that you say will change the way I feel about you.â I gently guided his face so I can look into his eyes. âLook at me. You can tell me.âÂ
He removed my hand from his face, placing it with my other hand in his.Â
âIâm a werewolf.â He says, looking down to fix his gaze on where our hands are intwined. âWhen I was a child a vicious werewolf broke into our family home and attacked me while I was sleeping and ever since then I have been cursed to transform into something I hate every full moon. Thereâs a bunker near my cottage in the forest that I lock myself in but the wolf is loud and sometimes the villagers hear me. Thankfully no one has ever been brave enough to go searching the woods and hopefully they never will. For years Iâve been planting ideas in the muggleâs heads. The right words said to the right people at the right time and before you know it the whole village has been warned to stay clear of the dangerous creature in the forest. They have no idea its really me. I am the monster of wolf woods.â
My hands slip from Remusâ as he leans back in his chair, letting out a breath as he watches me with worry in his eyes, trying to work out what Iâm thinking. Silently I stand up from my seat and Remusâ worry turns to panic.Â
âI understand completely if this is too much, if you don't want to see me-â he starts babbling but I cut him off as I sit down on the sofa next to him, putting my arm around him to pull him into a tight hug. I feel how much he is shaking and he starts to cry with relief.Â
âI canât lie, that was a lot to take in. But it doesnât change anything. Youâre still Remus, the gentle natured book nerd with a kind smile who came into my shop and stole my heart all those months ago.â I say, leaning away to look in his face. âMy Remus.âÂ
âI don't deserve you.â He whispers with a sad smile.Â
âYes you do.â I smile back at him as I kiss him on the nose, causing us both to start giggling.Â
âThank you.â he says once weâve composed ourselves. âMy Y/N. I really do love you.âÂ
sp apparently my current hyperfixation is David Thewlis, more specifically Remus Lupin... I have a fic idea, I just need to get it out in some sort of logical story...

Laylaâs POVÂ
She wants to stop you from surrendering yourself, she knows itâs dangerous.Â
But she also knows neither of you have time to think of another plan.Â
As soon as you step out from behind the wall she wastes no time in sneaking over to where Osirisâ avatar is and pulls him to safety.Â
âHey! hey, heyâŠâ She says as she tries to keep him upright and conscious. âHow do we stop Ammit?!â
âThis chamber is our most powerful place.â He wheezes. âFrom here we need to imprision Ammit in a mortal form.â
âA body instead of a statue. Sheâd be vulnerable⊠okay, how do we do it?âÂ
âWe need more avatars than we have leftâŠâ he says before collapsing to the ground.Â
âNo, no no!â Layla tries to wake him, but when she checks his pulse she realises heâs gone. She thinks for a moment, pondering her options. Reluctantly she summons Taweret and agrees to be her temporary avatar.Â
âI am so thrilled! We are gonna have so much fun together.â Taweret says excitedly. âI have a fabulous costume in mind.â
The sound of Harrowâs shout bounces off the walls, getting Laylaâs attention. She peers around to watch.Â
Harrow is stood in front of you protectively, talking to Ammit. Almost pleading with her.Â
âWhat could she possibly do in the future that is so bad that she deserves this?â Â
âShe will be the one to kill you.â
Ammitâs reply sends the room silent. A few disciples spare glances at each other but no one dares make a sound. Layla notices the heartbreak on Harrowâs face.Â
She watches as you try to stand, try to reason with Harrow, convince him Ammit is lying.Â
She watches as Harrow turns to you, and reaches out to help you up from the floor.
She watches as he drives a dagger deep into your stomach and she has to fight with herself not to run over and kill Harrow herself. She knows with Ammit behind him he is too powerful for her to fight alone.Â
She watches as everyone just steps over you, leaving you to die. Not a single one of them even pausing for a moment to consider helping you.Â
As soon as theyâre out she runs to you, calling your name. You manage to roll over and look at her and she sees the moment the last bit of life leaves you. Your body going still, eyes glassing over as you lay limp on the ground. She crouches next to you, checking and double checking for a pulse. Begging you to wake up, to not leave her alone.Â
But thatâs what she is now⊠AloneâŠ
Marc is dead. You are dead. Without anyone to help her, sheâs sure she will be next.
â â â âÂ
Y/Nâs POVÂ
âWhere am I?â You ask aloud, glancing at the bright white nothingness around you. âSteven? Marc? Anyone?â
âY/N Y/L/N.â A voice calls from everywhere at once.
âHello?â You respond.Â
âI am Osiris, god of the underworld.â
ââŠokayâŠâÂ
âI have granted you resurrection but I ask something of you in return⊠Become my avatar.â
âUh, look I don't think I'm really the person to be asking. I don't know how to be an avatar, I don't even really know what it means⊠I just know that Marc said itâs bad. Like being a slave? And I really don't want that-â
âYou wonât be a slave, you will be powerful.â
âIâm sorry, but my answer is no. And if that means you have to send me back to the Duat then⊠I accept my fate.âÂ
âI admire your honesty and bravery Y/N. But we need more avatars than we have left if we are to defeat Ammit.â Osiris speaks calm but firm. âTake the powers that come with being my avatar, use them to defeat Ammit and when the job is done I will take them back from you. I will expect nothing more from you. You may continue to live your life free from any burden.â
âSo just like, a temporary deal? Right?â
âYes.â
âAnd once Ammit is dealt with, I can just be normal again?âÂ
âYes.â Osiris pauses. âDo you accept?âÂ
âI do.â
â â â âÂ
You gasp as you sit bolt upright on the cold stone floor of the pyramid, making Layla jump.Â
âY/N?!â She says, grabbing your arms to ground you as you flail around in a panic. âI got, I got you.â
You take deep breaths, clutching your hands to your stomach. You lift your shirt and watch in shock as the wound from the dagger closes itself, leaving you fully healed. Any weakness left from Harrowâs staff is gone too. You feel amazing.
âWhat⊠what just happened?â Layla says, wiping tears from her face and staring at your stomach. She helps you up off the floor. âYou were dead!âÂ
âOsiris healed me.â You say, in shock yourself. Then you notice Laylaâs outfit. Her mundane clothes from before gone, replaced with a gold and white Egyptian armour. âWhat are you wearing?âÂ
âTaweret chose it.â She says before explaining how she agreed to be her temporary avatar. You in turn explained the deal Osiris offered you.Â
âWell, you look badass.â You say and she laughs. âWait, if Iâm an avatar too now, does that mean I get a costume too?âÂ
A bright light swirls around you and when it disappears youâve changed. No more blood soaked clothes. Instead you're wearing green armour, similar to Laylaâs, with white and gold fabric wrapped around your body. Attached to your back is a long golden staff with a hooked end.Â
You look down at your clothes in amazement, then up at Layla. The two of you look at each other for a moment before bursting into laughter. You don't really know why you're laughing, but after the stress of the last few days it feels like a welcome break.Â
âSo, what do we do now?â You says once you composed yourself. Layla sighs, shaking her head.Â
âI guess, we try to save the world.â
â â â âÂ
The two of you head outside. To your surprise the sky is as dark as night, even though you're pretty sure itâs still daytime. The sky is filled with purple lights, flying up from across the city and towards the other side of the pyramid where Ammit is.Â
âSheâs consuming souls.â Layla says as you watch horrified. The more lights she swallows the bigger she grows. Sheâs already almost the same size as the pyramid.
âHow are we supposed to stop her?!â You ask, looking around frantically. You look up at the top of the pyramid. Harrow is up there, a purple glowing light surrounds him as he chants in a language you don't recognise.Â
Before you can say anything, someone flies up to the pyramid and begins to fight Harrow. You recognise the person to be the same as the action figure you found in the museum, dressed head toe in white. Â
âWho is that?â You ask Layla, turning her attention to the scene on the pyramid.Â
âMarc?â She gasps before turning to you. âDid Osiris resurrect him too?âÂ
âI- I don't know. Maybe? I didnât see him after we made it through the gates-â
You stop talking suddenly when you notice Khonshu appear next to Ammit. He goes to hit her with his staff but she reaches out a scaly hand and stops him. They begin to fight as Harrow and Marc fly though the air toward the town, still fighting each other. Khonshu manages to knock Ammit over and she comes crashing down near near you. The force of her slamming into the pyramid sends a cloud of dust and sand over you and Layla.Â
âLittle bugs.â Khonshu says when he notices he almost flattened the two of you. âGo! Help Marc.â
Layla rolls her eyes at him as she wipes dust from her clothes before turning to you and nodding. You run away from the pyramid in the direction that Marc and Harrow had gone.Â
The streets are chaos. Everywhere you look Ammitâs disciples are grabbing people, judging their scales. You watch as Bobbi grabs someone. They begin to shake then fall to the floor as a purple light emerges from them and flies up into the sky. Those who arenât distracted staring at the dark sky are running, screaming, from the disciples. As you begin fighting off disciples you notice Marc laying on the ground on the other side of the town square, Harrow stood over him with his cane pointed down at him. It starts to glow purple.Â
Layla swoops in just in time and knocks Harrow away. He fires purple light from his cane at Layla, but she reflects it with the golden armoured wings attached to her arms and it bounces back at Harrow. It sends him flying backwards into a crowd of people.Â
You knock out the guy you're fighting and run over to Marc. His face now uncovered and he spots you over Laylaâs shoulder as heâs hugging her. As you get closer his clothes change to a white three piece suit.
âY/N!â Stevenâs voice calls happily as he hugs you tightly. His hand finds the crook attached to your back. âOh my God, that- thatâs Osirisâ crook! Oh thatâs bloody brilliant that! Wow!â
âSteven I know this is a massive deal for you but we have to stop Harrow.â You say, smiling at him.
âRight yeah, sorry you just- you look amazing!â He smiles, turning to Layla. âYou both do.âÂ
You hear a scream and turn to see a woman with two young children being cornered by a group of disciples.Â
âIâll go. You two get Harrow.â You say and Steven places a kiss on your cheek before he and Layla run into the crowd and begin fighting.Â
You run the other way, grabbing the crook and using it to pull the first bad guy away. You swing him round and send him crashing into the side of a nearby building. The others turn on you, but you effortlessly manage to dodge their attacks and one by one knock them all out. You help the mother and her children find somewhere safe to hide before turning your attention back to the others just in time to see Harrow fighting Marc.Â
âYou need only remove one weed from the garden. You!â He says, purple light blasting from his cane at Marc.
Marc grabs one of his crescent moon shaped blades but Harrow uses the power from his cane to control Marcâs hand. Layla runs toward them but Harrow sends the blade flying at her and it pins her arm to the side of the truck, before sending a huge blast of power at Marc, forcing him down on his back. On a building above them you see Ammit has also overpowered Khonshu, pinning him down with his own staff.Â
Harrow advances towards Marc and you run, throwing yourself in between them.
âSTOP!â You shout and Harrow looks at you like heâs just seen a ghost.
âY/N..?â He says breathlessly. âYouâre-â
âAlive? Yeah, I was surprised too.â You say sarcastically. âWhy are you doing this? You told me you wanted to stop her!â
âThat was beforeâŠâ
âBefore what?â
âBefore I knew you would betray me!â He shouts, hitting you with a flash of power from his cane. It knocks you flying out of the way, rolling across the dusty ground. You feel like the wind has been knocked from you as you lay on the ground trying to get your breath back. Harrow advances on Marc again, raising his cane and slamming it into his chest. Purple light streams up through the cane, killing him slowly.Â
âNO!â You scream, scrambling to try to get up but a heavy boot comes down on your back. Bobbi stands over you, keeping you down, forcing you to watch. You look over at Layla, sheâs surrounded by disciples, using her golden armoured wings to deflect the bullets being fired at her.Â
Marc turns his head to look at you before his eyes turn white.Â
You canât really describe what happened next. Something takes over Marc and sends him into a killing frenzy. Heâs unstoppable as he takes on multiple disciples at once, slaughtering each one without breaking a sweat. He turns to you and you feel Bobbi remove her foot from your back. She backs away but Marc throws a blade at her and it lodges itself in her forehead, killing her instantly. He locks eyes with you and you don't recognise him at all. Thatâs not Marc anymore, and it definitely isnât Steven. He winks at you before taking on Harrow. It doesnât take long for him to overpower him. Its only as heâs about to kill him that he freezes, his posture changing. He drops Harrowâs unconscious body and looks around in horror at the war zone around him.Â
âThat wasnât you, was it Steven?â He says and his suit changes. âNot a chance mate.âÂ
He looks at you and you get up, dusting yourself down as you make your way over to him.
âAre you alright?â He asks, placing his hands on your face and checking you over.Â
âIâm fine, Iâm more worried about you.â You reply.
âMarc?â Layla calls, freeing herself from where Harrow had trapped her. Steven changes back to Marc. âWhat the hell was that?â
âI blacked out.â He says. He looks genuinely worried.Â
A rumbling from the building next to you draws your attention to Ammit dragging Khonshu away.Â
âGet Harrow!â Layla says âI know how to stop Ammit.âÂ
â â â âÂ
Marc carries Harrow and you both follow Layla back to the tomb in the pyramid. Once inside Marc throws Harrow down on one of the stones.
âThe power of the room will help us bind Ammit to Harrowâs body.â Layla explains. âQuick grab my hand so we can start the spell.âÂ
Marc takes Laylaâs hand and you take Marcâs. The three of you start chanting the spell in an ancient language, the words must be given to you by the gods because you have no idea what you're actually saying. A circle of light fills the tomb, surrounding the three of you and Harrow. Purple light descends down into Harrowâs body as the spell works. Harrow gasps awake, his wild eyes looking at the three of you.Â
âYou can never contain me!â Ammit speaks through him. âIâll never stop!â
âDo the honours, little bug.â Khonshu appears next to you and hands you the same dagger Harrow had earlier used to kill you. âFinish it! Leave neither of them alive.â
You look at the dagger, still stained with your own blood and feel anger boil inside you. You step up to Harrow, grabbing him by his collar and pulling him up to face you. His bright blue eyes stare into your own.Â
âDo it.â He croaks. He looks utterly defeated, ready to accept his fate.Â
You lift the dagger high, ready to plunge. Then you hear Ammitâs words from earlier.
âShe will be the one to kill you.â
You hesitate, thinking over those words. If you kill him now that means she was right about you.Â
âWhile he lives, so does she.â Khonshuâs words ring in your ears.Â
While Harrow lives, so does Ammit. Trapped in a mortal body.
âI said I wouldnât kill you and I meant it.â You drop Harrow back down on the stone and throw the dagger to the floor. âThere are worse fates than death.âÂ
You turn your back and walk away.
âWeak little bug.â Khonshu mocks but you ignore him.Â
Layla takes your hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze.Â
âI have to finish this.â Marc says suddenly, taking one of his blades and readying himself to stab Harrow. âIf not Iâll never be free.â
âMarc!â Layla shouts. âYou have a choice. You are free!â
âThe choice is vengeance! We cannot take the chance that Ammit finds a way out. She will kill again.â
âNow you sound just like her.â Marc says, throwing his blade away. âYou want them dead, do it yourself. Now release us!â
âAs you wish.â Khonshu says before disappearing.Â
Marcâs suit starts to disappear, a bright white light shines out of his chest and fills the room. For a moment youâre blinded, and when the light fades you find Marc on his knees. His normal clothes have returned. You and Layla go to him, crouching beside him.
âMarc? Are you okay?â Layla asks, full of concern. He looks at her and nods.
âHeâs gone.â He smiles. âThank you for stopping me.â
âWhat do we with him?â You ask, looking over at Harrow still laying on the stone.
âLock him up.â Marc replies. âHeâs killed so many people thereâs no chance heâll never ever be released. Heâll be locked away until the day he dies. And then Ammit will be gone too.â
You can hear Harrow incoherently babbling away to himself, and you feel a sort of sadness creep in.
âYou did the right thing Y/N.â Layla says, noticing the frown on your face.Â
âThen why do I feel so⊠weird?âÂ
âLoveâŠâ Stevenâs voice instantly makes you feel a bit calmer and he places his hands gently on your face, forcing you to look away from Harrow. âHey, look at me⊠You died today. And then you came back. And then you helped save the world from a giant crocodile lady.â He says making you laugh. âThatâs a lot to take in. You're allowed to feel weird. In fact Iâd be worried if you felt normal after all that.âÂ
âI know he did some really awful things but I- I almost kind of feel sorry for him. Is that wrong?â You admit and Steven smiles lovingly.Â
âThat just proves even more that Ammitâs scales were wrong about you. You are a good person with a kind heart. Itâs one of the many things I love about you.âÂ
He moves his hands to hold yours and you give him a small smile.Â
âThank you.â You share a kiss, before remembering Layla is currently watching you kiss her ex husband. You pull away, giving her an awkward smile. âWe should probably get going.âÂ
âYeahâŠâ Steven laughs, picking up on the awkwardness of the situation. âBack to good old London town. Get this guy put away⊠behind bars⊠where he belongsâŠâ
âGuys itâs fine.â Layla says, laughing at Stevenâs awkward rambling. âIâm really happy for you.â
âAre you sure?â Marcâs voice again. He walks closer to her, putting his hands on her shoulders. âI know I wasnât the best husband. You deserved so much more.â
âItâs okay Marc, honestly. Weâre better as friends.â She smiles a genuine smile at him. âBesides, Iâve decided Iâm staying here in Egypt.â
âWhat?â You say, moving to join them. âYouâre not coming with us?âÂ
âWhile we were fighting out there, a young girl asked me if I was an Egyptian superhero and it made me realise, we didnât have anything like that. But now we do. Iâm going to stay here and work with Taweret to give more young Egyptian girls someone to look up to.â She smiles. âPlus, England is too cold anyway.â
âYou got that right.â You laugh as you give her a tight hug. âyou are gonna be the most badass superhero ever. But Iâm gonna miss you.âÂ
âYou too.â She says and turns to Marc. âLook after her, or youâll have me to deal with.âÂ
âYes maâam.â
â â â âÂ
Some Time Later
You headed back to England with Marc and Steven taking turns to take the body. Though you knew Steven best, the more time you spent with Marc the more you enjoyed his company too.Â
Ammitâs presence in Harrowâs body meant he became more and more mentally unstable. He spent a lot of time rambling incoherently and occasionally Ammit would takeover, shouting about how she would escape and make everyone pay. Because of this, Harrow was admitted to Sienkiewicz Psychiatric Hospital in London.Â
A few days after Harrow was committed, you went to visit him. You don't know why, you just felt like you needed to be sure he was safely locked away. When the nurses first brought you to him, you almost didnât recognise him. He was sat in a wheelchair, his ankles restrained to it. He looked lost, vulnerable. It made a part of you feel quite sad.Â
âHi Arthur.â You say quietly. He looks up at you blankly.Â
âHeâs on quite strong medication, so he may not talk very much.â The nurse explains and you nod. âIâll just be on the other side of the room, shout if you need me.â
âThanks.â You reply, watching her as she goes to sit with another patient on the far side of the room. You sit down at the table opposite Arthur. âHow are you doing? Have you settled in here?â You ask but get no response. You start to feel awkward. You look around the room, trying to think of something to say. You glance down at the table and see paper with some lines painted randomly on it. âDid you paint that?â Harrow looks down at it and nods. âYou enjoy painting?â He nods again. âHow about we do some together.â
You grab two more pieces of paper, putting one in front go Harrow and the other in front of yourself, and you start to paint. Harrow joins in and the two of you sit quietly together making your own little pictures.Â
When your picture is done you show Harrow and he smiles at the simple flower you have painted. He shows you his, just a triangle.Â
âItâs good.â You smile.Â
âItâs a pyramid. Like the ones they have in Egypt.â He says, slowly sounding more like himself. âHave you ever been?âÂ
âTo Egypt?â You ask and he nods. âYeah Iâve been, with you. You took me there, remember?â
He stares at you for a long moment, a flicker of something like hurt flashes on his face, and then he goes blank again. You try to make more conversation, but he doesnât say much after that.Â
Not long after the nurse comes back and tells you visiting time is over. You slide your flower painting across the table to Harrow.Â
âYou can keep this.â You say smiling. âGoodbye Arthur.âÂ
You get up and start to walk away.Â
âY/N!â He calls, making you stop and turn back. âIâm really sorry I killed you.âÂ
You didnât say anything back, you just nod at him as the nurse leads you out.Â
As you sign yourself out the nurse speaks to you.Â
âThat is the most alert and talkative weâve seen him since he arrived. You must be someone important to him.â
Her words replayed through your head for the rest of the day and that night as you sat down to eat dinner with Steven you told him about it.Â
âIâve been thinking, I might go back and see him again.âÂ
âReally?â Steven asks. âAre you sure thatâs a good idea?âÂ
âYou didnât see him today Steven, heâs different. The dangerous man that we knew is gone. Now he just seems so⊠lost. I guess a part of me feels responsible for that.âÂ
âLoveâŠâ Steven sighs, putting down his food to fully concentrate on you. âHarrow is where he is now because of the things HE did. The choices HE made. You gave him plenty of chances, even after he murdered you!â He reaches across the table to hold your hands. âListen, Marc wants me to tell you not to go but I know that will make you want to do it even more.â He says and you laugh, nodding. âIf this is something you really want to do, if it makes you feel better, then I think you should do it. Just, please be careful.âÂ
âI will.â
The following week you head back to the hospital and do some more painting with Arthur. It soon became a regular thing. The more you visited the more chatty he became. He started to tell you about life in hospital, sharing stories about the other patients and in turn you told him about your life. Although he initially looked hurt to find out you and Steven were now dating, ultimately he said he was happy to see you happy.Â
If you hadnât known him before, you wouldnât guess this was once the leader of a cult intent on releasing a dangerous Egyptian goddess into the world. Youâd never guess how much damage he had caused just weeks ago. And youâd certainly never guess that dangerous Egyptian goddess was now trapped inside him. There were hints occasionally that Ammit was trying to take over, to shout abuse at you, but Harrow always made sure she couldnât hurt you.Â
You didnât talk about what happened in Egypt, you didnât want to drag it all up again. He wasnât the same person now anyway. And at least heâd apologised to you. Instead you chose to give him a fresh start, and just enjoy your weekly visits talking and painting with Arthur Harrow.Â

Epilogue
One morning you woke up to a voice in your head.Â
Osirisâ voice.Â
âThe deal is done. I release you from your duty.âÂ
âWhat?âÂ
âAmmit had been defeated.âÂ
âYeah, but that was weeks ago.â You say, not understanding why heâs waited till now to talk to you. âWe imprisoned her in Arthur Harrowâs body and theyâre both locked up.âÂ
âI release you from your duty.â He repeats and you feel a strange sensation move through your body. Then nothing.Â
âOsiris?â You call out, but no reply. âWell that was weirdâŠâÂ
âYou alright love?â Steven asks as he comes into the bedroom and hands you a cup of coffee.
âOsiris just released me.â You say confused as Steven sits on the bed next to you.Â
âWell thatâs a good thing innit?â He replies with a smile.
âYeah, definitely. Itâs just⊠why now? Why this exact moment instead of when we bound Ammit or when her and Harrow were first locked away? Whatâs so special about this morning?âÂ
âOsiris is a busy guy, maybe he didnât have time until now. Or maybe you're just thinking into it too muchâŠâÂ
âI just think itâs a bit odd thatâs all.â
âThatâs the gods for ya, all a bit odd. I don't think us humans are supposed to understand âem.âÂ
âYouâre probably right.â You say before taking a sip of your coffee. âAnyway, where did you disappear to this morning?âÂ
âWhat do you mean?â Steven asks blankly.Â
âI woke up in the early hours and you were gone.â
âI don't remember going anywhere⊠Marc?â He shifts and Marc speaks âDon't look at me. I thought we were sleeping all night.â
âDo you need the restraints back on the bed?âÂ
âOnly if you want them backâ Marc says flirtatiously, flashing you a mischievous grin. He shifts again and Steven comes back. âOy, back off you.â He says to Marc before focusing on you. "I probably just went to get water and don't remember. Don't worry about it.â He kisses you on the forehead. âRight, Iâve gotta get to work, laters gators.âÂ
âLaters.â You laugh, and blow him a kiss. He mimes catching it and putting it in his pocket before leaving.Â
You decide to put the Osiris thing out of your head. Stevenâs right, thereâs no point trying to understand the mind of a god. You finish your coffee before you get out of bed and get ready for the day.Â
In the afternoon you head to the hospital as usual, and are surprised to see police cars parked outside the building. As soon as you step inside the nurse youâve become used to seeing comes over to you.
âY/N, please come with me.â She says, leading you into a small side room with a police officer inside.Â
âIs everything alright?â
âPlease take a seat.â The officer says and gestures to the chairs. You sit down in one, the nurse sits next to you.Â
âWhatâs going on?â You ask, getting nervous.
âMiss Y/L/N, earlier this morning someone came into the hospital, murdered three members of staff and left with Arthur Harrow.âÂ
âWhat?! Who?âÂ
âWe don't know yet. The CCTV cameras were damaged. All we have is a few eye witnesses who say they saw a smartly dressed man wearing a flat cap wheeling Harrow out of the building.â The officer explains, and you feel your heart start to race. If Harrow is out then Ammit could escape. The nurse notices your breathing has picked up and reached over to hold your hand. âIâm sorry, I understand this must be distressing. Harrow is your friend, correct?â
âUh⊠yeahâŠâ you reply, trying to focus on what the officer is saying and not the panic running around your head.
âAccording to the sign in sheets youâre the only regular visitor he has. Do you have any idea of who could have done this? Or why they would have done this?â
You search your brain for any options. The only people who really know who he is are yourself, Marc, Steven and Layla. You definitely didnât do it. Marc and Steven wouldnât have done it, and you canât imagine Layla would have. You realise the officer is still looking at you for an answer.Â
âNo, no sorry. I- I don't think he has anyone else.â
âHere, take my card. If you think of anything give me a call.â The officer hands you a small business card and the nurse leads you back out the room.Â
âAre you going to be okay? I know youâre quite close to him.â She asks, noticing how shook up you are she places a gentle hand on your arm. âDo you want me to call someone to pick you up?âÂ
âIâll be fine, thank you though.â You smile at her as you reach the door out the building. âYou have my number, will you please let me know if thereâs any news?â
âOf course. Take care Y/N.âÂ
You head outside, and cross the street to where thereâs a small park. You find an empty bench and sit for a moment to process the news and what that could mean. Who could have known Harrow was there? Who could have wanted him out? Maybe thereâs another Ammit fanatic out there who wants her released?Â
A shudder goes down your spine at the thought of her getting out.Â
You take your phone from your pocket and phone Steven. It rings out. You roll your eyes and try Marcâs number instead, incase heâs got the body right now. They have separate phones and refuse to answer each otherâs if it rings. His goes straight to voicemail. Thatâs unusual. You check the time, 4pm. Steven will probably be getting ready to leave work.Â
Needing to talk to someone you FaceTime Layla, she picks up almost straight away.Â
âY/N! Hey!â She says happily, her smile drops when she seeâs your face. âWhatâs wrong?âÂ
âHey, uh⊠sorry to call I just, I need to talk to someone and Steven and Marc arenât answering and no one else will understand-â
âY/N, you don't need to apologise. Whatâs happened?â
âHarrowâs gone.â You blurt out and she stares through the phone at you. âSomeone took him from the hospital this morning, they don't know who did it and they have no idea where he is. Iâm scared, Layla.â
âHey, alright, itâs going to be alright.â She says, though her voice has a hint of panic. âAnd you canât get through to Marc?âÂ
âHis phone is off. I think Steven will be leaving work soon.â
âOkay, you head over to find him. Iâll keep trying his phone.â She says and you nod. âY/N?âÂ
âYeah.âÂ
âItâs gonna be okay.â She says and you get the feeling sheâs trying reassure herself as much as she is you. You nod and she hangs up the phone before you start walking toward the road, looking for a taxi.Â
In the distance you see a white limo heading towards you. Usually youâd think nothing of it. You see a lot of different vehicles in London. But something about this one got your attention. The personalised number plate.Â
âSPKTRâ
You canât help but stare at it as it gets closer to you. Something in your gut telling you to run.Â
The car slows down as it gets closer to you and you can just about make out though the windows that the driver is wearing a flat cap. The limo pulls over and stops next to you. The driver gets out and you stare at him confused.Â
âMarcâŠ?â Itâs definitely Marcâs body, but the expression isnât Marc or Steven. Itâs the same one you recognise from Egypt. The one who so easily fought and killed all Harrowâs disciples. Another alter?
âHola, mi amor.âÂ
He winks at you as he walks around the front of the car, past you and opens the door at the back of the limo for you. He gestures for you to get in. You hesitantly walk to where the door is and peer in. You have to slam your hand over your mouth to stop a scream from escaping.Â
There on the back seat is Harrow, a bullet hole in his forehead.Â
You back away but the driver pushes you inside and slams the door closed. You scramble to get out, to get away from the corpse, but the door is locked. You bang against the door, screaming for someone to let you out and then you hear a voice from inside the limo.Â
âHello little bug.âÂ
