THE GIRL

I was nine the first time I realized my life hadn’t been what others had experienced. I was quiet, withdrawn, it was safer that way. If I spoke too loudly others listened to my nonsense. 

I went to my first sleepover and asked why my friends parents slept in the same room because my parents didn’t. The girls laughed, and said my parents didn’t love each other. Well I knew that already, they didn’t love me or siblings either, was that a requirement in a family? Love? 

Seemed silly and impractical. If you were worried about love, how could you be successful?

Life never goes as expected I suppose, that doesn’t mean it went poorly, it just means, the lessons we learned were harder than expected. If you watch sappy TV or read happy novels, you would think that life goes on always, no matter the trials…that is, until it doesn’t anymore. 

When this girl’s story ended, I wanted to tell it. I wanted people to know that sometimes, life doesn’t go as expected and it is all how you react to the challenges and how you embrace yourself. At the end of the day, the only things you leave behind, are the effects you had on others. And the effect this girl had on me, left me wanting more.
