But since I live in a predominantly Chinese country, I grew up with the superstitions of the Chinese.

And, well, inspired by the story of a gate of one of the oldest schools in my country, what if Sage was a Tiger girl?

See, parents used to abandon their Tiger girls at that gate because girls born in the year of the Tiger were too aggressive, too independent, and was said to cause misfortune onto their families.

Then those girls grew up to be nuns (because it was a Catholic school).

And it's just hmhmhm... what if she had that, like what if she was left at the monastery young?

Because I'd always imagined her to be a deeply traditional person, to believe in the superstitions, even if like logically, no sense whatsoever.

But... yeah.

Even if her parents didn't abandon her at the monastery, there's going to be a lot of pressure, and because of that she learns how to make herself small and manageable and useful. There are the optics of keeping a Tiger girl in a deeply, deeply traditional household.

To be fair, in a deeply traditional household it already forces girls to be demure, obedient etc etc etc

But the Tiger girl part of it presses that harder on her. The awareness that they could have gotten rid of her, should have gotten rid of her, makes her want to be useful, to help. To not be the misfortune.

but hear me out...fire horse Sage? It would fit into her calm name which could be to balance out her roots? She would have been raised to be a submissive, calm, mild girl who wouldn't dare to speak up, which would probably carry over to how she acts now, blaming herself like how her family blamed her for misfortune which befell the Protocol.

I feel like with how Sage is right now in the timeline and in her past, it would be cool to see her roots and her zodiac as i think it would provide some very nice insight into her personality and upbringing.

The fact that i specified it being fire is that girls born in this year are often seen as people who would dominate in an arranged marriage and overthrow their fathers, so i would imagine her being sent to the monastery with her birth year being lied about, showing her from young that she was Not Desirable, that she was too much, that she should become small and calm...

like imagine that you are the oldest person in the entire protocol-- you imagine dying first, or at least before some people.

but then the people start falling, people young enough to be your kids. your healer, a decade younger than you, dies because she brings people back, and every time she does it cuts into her a little more.

your second-in-command, dead because she'd flown too close to the sun, or maybe she flew at it just to feel something as hot as her rage.

your daughter figure, too smart for this world, too good for it, too young pulled into a war you never started but kept perpetuating, dead because you pulled her in, didn't you?

everyone is dying, liam byrne, and when the war ends, when the ashes settle, what will you have?

you went into this thinking you would die because you're the oldest.

now you're just the only one.
