Powerchairs can easily be snazzy or beautiful or cool colours. People who use powerchairs are not taking up too much space. you don't need to be smaller or tucked out of the way for others' convenience. Powerchairs can do so much that manual chairs can't (even with a power assist) and that's a good thing! So many people are supported by their powerchairs, and the world has been changed many times by someone living their life using a powerchair.

It will never be a bad thing for disabled people to have access to their homes and their communities. Using a powerchair isn't a "lesser option" to a manual chair, it isn't "giving up", and it is never taking up too much space. You're taking up exactly as much space as belongs to you already. It's great to see you around 😊

this blog loves all the mobility equipment disabled people may need, and I think people using group 3/CRT powerchairs don't get enough positivity about their mobility aids.

Having a diagnosis doesn't mean all/most doctors will believe it's correct

Having a diagnosis doesn't mean the diagnosis is correct

Having a diagnosis doesn't mean previous incorrect diagnoses will be considered incorrect, even if they're direct contradictions of your diagnosis

Having a diagnosis doesn't mean your doctors will believe you have any or all symptoms of that diagnosis

Having a diagnosis doesn't mean your doctors will treat that diagnosis

Even after getting a diagnosis it's not uncommon for doctors to question if it's true (even with empirical tests), will give you treatment for it (or any of its symptoms), or will even educate you on essential, basic information about the diagnosis.

(n also me talk abt as chinese person grow up in china speak chinese have (probably) chinese dyslexia

(context: i lived most of my childhood in mainland china and my teenage years all in hong kong)

i remember at one time searching online when i was like 11 years old if dyslexia existed for the chinese language and when i got no good results about it i made a post on yahoo answers asking about it and someone just told me i was being lazy and should focus on my studies.

later on (around when I was 17 or 18 i think) when i got diagnosed with dyscalculia, the person who diagnosed it said it was likely that dyscalculia explains (at least partially) my difficulty with written chinese because of things like symbol recognition and stroke order and directions all sort of being related to the difficulties of dyscalculia.

Further to that; Stupid, alongside Idiot, which you use in your tags, as well as Moron, Imbecile, and the R slur, are all words that have been used towards those with intellectual disability, in both clinical settings and colloquial environemnts, to abuse, opress, and otherwise justify the mistreatment of people with ID/DD and particularly as a tool to deny them autonomy and basic human rights.

I have very poor interoception which extends to bathroom signals, hunger, thirst, nausea, pain, and even internal thoughts and emotional states. I might not be able to locate the exact location of pain and I might not be able to describe feelings of illness. I may not realize I am hungry until I’m about to faint.

I had a developmental delay. Delays aren’t exclusive to higher support needs! I had a gross and fine motor delay, and still am wobbly and imprecise with a lot of daily movements like walking up and down stairs, picking up objects, using pencils/pens/forks/etc, buttoning, and more. I didn’t learn to ride a bike until I was 10 and I didn’t learn how to tie my shoes until I was 9 - I am still slow at tying my shoes and I still have trouble balancing while on a bike!

I rely heavily on graphics and visual supports for daily routines that others may find automatic! This includes getting ready in the morning and winding down at night, doing self care, and more. I can get stuck during familiar and “simple” routines sometimes if I don’t have it all laid out.

I experience self injurious stimming that has led to injury. In my case, the injuries are not severe. I’ve had bruising and some bleeding of my gums and lips. Luckily I can regulate a lot of my self injury now but that wasn’t always the case.

I can’t mask!! It just can’t happen and I don’t think it ever will

I have a very “stereotypical” special interest (trains) and can get extremely immersed with my fixations to the point of it getting in the way of basic living like eating, drinking, using the restroom, hygiene, etc.

Similarly, I have a lot of “stereotypical” stims like rocking, pacing, hand flapping, grimacing, etc that are difficult to suppress.

I don’t see much about conditions effecting the urinary tract so i thought i’d make my own.

The basics: neurogenic bladder (aka; neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction) is a broad term for bladder and lower urinary tract dysfunction caused by neurological disorders

Types: there is 3 types of neurogenic bladder; overactive, under active, and mixed type

Overactive: a hyper active bladder, it will have involuntary contractions

Under active: a bladder that is not active enough and doesn’t contract enough and when needed

Mixed type: a mix of symptoms and features of both under active and over active bladder

Stigma: theres a lot of stigma around urinary disorders and disabilities. Many with them are scared to talk about them. It’s often seen as “gross” and “unsanitary”. Those of us with urinary issues often get shut down in conversations even in disability spaces because people think our disorders and symptoms are taboo and shouldn’t be talked about. All of this not only makes it hard to live with by constantly hearing part of your daily life called gross and unsanitary, but it makes people afraid to talk about it, including to doctors, when they really need to.

Homeopathy is based on two ideas:

Like treats like. Homeopathy teaches that an illness can be treated by taking something that causes the same or similar symptoms. One of the biggest examples is treating digestive issues and diarrhea with arsenic. (Not a joke, look it up.)

The more diluted something is, the stronger it will be as a medicine. Calling homeopathic "treatments" water isn't an exaggeration or mockery, it is the literal truth. Homeopathic "medicine" is so diluted that it almost never contains any trace amounts of whatever supposedly has the medicinal properties. It is literal water except when it's not diluted enough, then it's deadly poison.

Homeopathy is not traditional medicine. It has literally no basis in any ancient culture. It is not Native American or Chinese or Indian or anything else people claim. The ancient Greeks, Romans, or Egyptians did not practice it.

Homeopathy was invented by an old white German dude in the late 18th century and literally means "-like suffering", as in something that causes similar/like symptoms to the illness will be able to cure it. It was based off of entirely bullshit and nonsense reasoning combined with (honestly pretty reasonable) distrust of available medicine at the time. It has absolutely no scientific or cultural basis, it is just a placebo made up by some random guy that somehow become popular more than a hundred years later even though we have actual medicine and things like vaccines now.
