hi Chaos this is Chaos. Remember to write that drabble where Shorter and Ash get high but it's Ash's first time with weed but REMEMBER TO MAKE IT SILLY and if you make it angsty I (past Chaos) will be mad >:(
oh thanks for the reminder chaos
In retrospect, Shorter should have known better than to let Ash get high.
It's just marijuana, and Shorter's not too worried. The kid said he'd done worse before, but Shorter's not totally sure if he believes him, honestly. And things with Ash are just always so ... unpredictable. Add any sort of intoxication into that mix, and the unpredictability becomes tenfold.
Anyway, yeah, Ash is stoned out of his goddamn mind. He's starting really really hard at nothing, and it's kind of fucking hilarious. Shorter is a little high, too, but Ash is fucking gone.
Ash sure is interested in that blank wall.
Shorter giggles. "You good, man?" he asks.
Ash blinks slowly, but doesn't turn to look at Shorter. "Do you ever think about why we're here?" he asks.
"Uh, buddy, I'm not quite high enough for that level of existentialism yet."
Ash nods, silently handing Shorter the blunt in response. Shorter takes it, if only to get it away from Ash.
"How're you feeling?" Shorter asks.
"Better," Ash mumbles. Shorter's not sure what he means, really—he didn't realize Ash wasn't feeling well beforehand.
"That's good," Shorter starts, making a mental note to not let Ash have much more. They're just sitting on Shorter's couch, and the TV isn't even on. "What do you want to do?"
Ash doesn't even seem to register Shorter's question at first. It takes him far longer than it should to respond, and when he does: "Dunno."
Shorter snorts. He feels that giggly sort of high, right where he wants to be.
"Ah shit," Shorter says, glancing at his phone. "My phone's dying."
Ash nods. "Me too."
Shorter raises an eyebrow. "You're dying?" he asks, trying not to laugh at how serious Ash sounds.
"Aren't we all?"
"Speak for yourself, man. I am living."
Shorter peers dubiously at the nearest outlet. He has his phone charger on the coffee table in front of him, but the outlet will be hard to reach over the boxes of random shit in the way.
"I gotta plug my phone in," Shorter explains.
"You can do it!" Ash yells suddenly, pumping an arm in the air. He laughs, then goes back to staring at the wall.
"Uh—thanks for the vote of confidence?" Shorter grabs his phone charger and leans far far far over the boxes, stretching his arm out to reach the outlet, and—fuck yeah. Phone is plugged in.
"It's because I believe in you," Ash explains solemnly.
Shorter laughs. "You can reach your dreams. You just gotta ... be long." He gestures to the length of his arm.
Ash nods, glancing over at Shorter and then back to the wall. "We're all just trying to belong ..." Ash whispers, dead serious.
Shorter starts laughing. He can't help it. Ash doesn't even realize how fucking funny he is, and that makes it worse.
"Oookay," Shorter says. "I think the rest of this blunt is mine, buddy."
