Some thoughts on Kingās new look cause I just adore it so muchā
I love how the outfit is designed in such a way it looks like itās sectioned off into thirds, like thereās one piece for each of his livesā
He really does look very dashing and royal, he looks so princely Iām in loveā
The black with vivid red and shining gold accents is just so lovely it always suits his character so well (and I like to think of the black and red as preferences from his time as Lucien and Molly, while the gold is for him)
Love that he still has the black and red leather gloves itās just so hot to me. And Caleb in this art wears a matching pair!! šš§” Also, it looks like Kingās wearing a ring now! He probably just enjoys wearing a bit of jewelry like Molly, but I will have fun headcannoning it as a gift from one of the Nein specificallyā
I adore the pose itself because it looks like heās about to do a little bow, again very dashing (and I remember Molly doing a cute little bow like that in parts of animated nein ; ;)
As gorgeous and kingly as he looks, I still canāt help but notice that he still refuses to show any skin ; ; I wonder if heās still hesitant to show his scars and tattoos, if itās a sign that he still doesnāt feel quite comfortable yet in his own skinā¦

Do you think Kingsley ever signs a matelotage agreement with any of the Mighty Nein--because they're his only family, and if anything happens to him (again), he knows at least his loved ones are well taken care of?
Do you think he ever sees Caleb bemoaning budget cuts to his research grants and resource materials for students. Do you think he ever has the odd memory of Caleb caked in dirt and grime, taking the time to carefully measure out each and every coin he spent, wistfully admiring the precious books he can't afford?
Do you think Kingsley ever starts to send him a king's ransom of platinum and gold, a treasure trove of gemstones and pearls to draw from for spells. Caleb receiving anonymous letters and packages from ports all across the sea, posted with a different stamp every time, containing a ridiculous sum of coins in widely varying makes of currency.
People always being shocked to find out that the bookish, soft-spoken professor has some adventurous mystery admirer, that he has a sweetheart out at sea who just showers him in spoils and treasure. People start to whisper that he's entangled in piracy--
pretty Lavish Chateau art references I'm saving for silly writing and doodle things now that it's cannon Kingsley spent at least a little bit of time working there (and Marion so kindly took him in after his brutal "execution" ; ;)
pspsps Taliesin please tell us what Kingsley's whole costume in the Lavish Chateau looked like š (Jester mentions he looks good in sequins, but I believe that's all the description we get--)

ah thank you ; ; I'm just so excited and can't wait for more folks to see it, and I do hope that people come out of it a bit fonder of Kingsley, because every time we get to see his character, he is just more endearing to me.
And I think Darktow lays to rest some fears as to Kingsley having ulterior motivations, or that he doesn't love the Nein or have the same loyalty to them, etc. And I do so hope we get to explore this character and all his complicated relationships with each of the Mighty Nein more, because it's all so compelling to me and feels like we've really only just scratched the surface :')
some more bonus little things:
I cannot emphasize enough how competent Kingsley and the rest of the Nein actually look in comparison to the Plank King here, specifically due to the sheer amount of terrible, terrible rolls that Daniel rolled, it's so sad and also hilarious adghjkl
For instance, there was a group of like elite, seafaring mages that serve the Plank King. Jester tells him, "Call off the mages," and he's so annoyed by how poorly all his men are doing at apprehending the Nein, that he just says something to the effect, "Oh, don't worry, I'm killing them next." Even though he was clearly joking, Matt then has an NPC give the order to promptly kill all the mages with cannons, leaving a very exasperated Wyatt to say in the most strangled, defeated tone, "As you can see....I am a man...of my word--"
There were multiple character sheets and things just ripped up by Matt in the midst of combat it was so funny. There's a part where I believe Liam makes a point of saying Matt told them how deadly this combat would be, but the whole thing just feels like a bit, I can't get over it--
Kingsley is especially dashing and adorable and ridiculous in this and I'm even more in love with him.
King promptly experiencing the five stages of grief when Caleb sets his beloved ship on fire, which Kingsley explicitly asked him not to do. Caleb is clearly having too much fun with this. He later pulls aside Kingsley and tells him, "Listen, listen to me--how attached are you to the Throne Room?" Just incredible stuff--
Wyatt: "Jessie."
Jester: "Heeyyyy Wyattt."
Wyatt, with surprise: "...Kingsley?"
King: "Wyatt."
Wyatt: "You seem to have a terrible habit of not dying when you're fucking told."
Also, Caleb calling him Pirate Man makes me smile :')
I cannot wait to rewatch the amazing darktow show, but also see the cooldown!! there's so many interesting things I'd love to see them talk about-- š
spoilers:
esPECIALLY ABOUT THE BEGINNING!! IF KINGSLEY REALLY DIDN'T SURVIVE HIS EXECUTION IN THE VERY INTRO!! When someone asks what could have possibly happened if he didn't make it--because, for a few moments, it felt close--and the way Taliesin says, pretty confidently, "I have an idea." Hey,, Tal...w....what would the live show have been like, and would the first half have just been the Nein desperately trying to bring his shattered soul back after his body was just lost to the sea--
Also, just--would love to hear more about Kingsley's relationships with each of the Nein and whether or not they'll consider setting up a little base or something in the Throne Roost :') I love how Liam says that they can rebuild the Throne room into whatever Kingsley wants, and Sam later saying that maybe they should stay. I love the thought of them all making themselves at home--
For folks curious about any other mighty nein members being mentioned or appearing in Darktow:
There is a mention of Caduceus, although we donāt see him in the show; when Kingsley heals Jester, he comments, āThought you had a guy for thatāā
Taliesin also says, āsomewhere, Caduceus pulls a muscle,ā as Caleb tells Jester, with an entirely straight face and deadpan tone, āYou areā¦the Best healer I knowā¦ā
No Essek appearance unfortunately, and I donāt remember him being mentioned. But I do still think itās fun him and Caduceus were included on the coins in the live show poster. Still hoping we get to see Essek and King hanging out one day :,)
