Think about it, you get a job on an experimental submarine, doing field work and handling disasters. Your only consistent social interactions will be mainly the people you work with, sure you have vacations to visit family or go elsewhere, but my point being it's the same people day in and day out. And you get there and you discover the food you eat is all kelp, algae, and seaweed, additionally red seaweed is a special occasion. Like I don't if yall know what those taste like, but majority of it is salty, it's all salty.

I mean they probably do it because food supply is hard to manage if you need to import to the bottom of the ocean.
