I assumed everyone knew this, but
candy desk . yeah I know you’re like “it would be stupid in a tv show if a senator famous for being a libertarian idiot whose ribs got broken in a fistfight over yard waste was infected with a virus from a one-in-a-century pandemic and continued to rifle around in the senate republican’s candy pile”. well sorry Sorkin but this is the real world and that’s just how it is
oh yeah because I forgot to mention, it was Rand Paul because of fucking course it was
also in case you didn’t know this, the US Capitol also has its own little rinky dink subway system that only they can use at it looks like this
and it looked like this in 1912 because yep it’s been there that whole time
willy wonka’s chocolate factory
article tells me there are, in fact, separate candy desks for republican and democrat senators. the republican candy desk, which is the better-known one, is operated by a singular sugar daddy, while democrats can contribute to a candy fund in order to partake of their side’s hoard
@ us senate yall really run a country like this????
Jesus Christ if you read it in a book you’d say it was too on the nose. What the fuck.
Republicans make confectioners donate all their candy to them while the democrats pitch in to pay for the candy are you fucking kidding me…I had to read the article myself and it’s somehow worse than I thought
in times like these people say things like “we need to throw it all out and start over” which is absolutely true but we also need to divest of all this whimsical shit in its entirety. if I saw, with my eyeballs, a congressperson like, vote against raising minimum wage or whatever and then take a handful of literal candy from a communal candy desk and then hop on the Magical Senator Train to Clown Town I would be in prison for murder.

Japanese Firemen’s Coats (19th century)
Each firefighter in a given brigade was outfitted with a special reversible coat (hikeshi banten), plain but for the name of the brigade on one side and decorated with richly symbolic imagery on the other. Made of several layers of quilted cotton fabric, using a process called the sashiko technique, and resist-dyed using the tsutsugaki method, these coats would be worn plain-side out and thoroughly soaked in water before the firefighters entered the scene of the blaze. No doubt the men wore them this way round to protect the dyed images from damage, but they were probably also concerned with protecting themselves, as they went about their dangerous work, through direct contact with the heroes and creatures represented on the insides of these beautiful garments.
the fact elon mask genuinely might ruin the night sky for everyone makes me wanna sharpen my shovel and get to work
For those who are confused, SpaceX has been putting a metric fuckton of little sattelites into low earth orbit, and they’re well on their way to making earth-based visual astronomy impossible.
Like, this was a picture taken by an observatory in Arizona
The streaks are all SpaceX satellites. So you can see why that’s a bit of a problem.
When the rich take even our stars I think it’s time to grab for an axe
im seeing people call this a hoax in the notes, but as far as my research goes spacex has had to publically address and confirm the issue and even has pushed changes to the starlink relay as an appeasement measure. cant find any supposed "debunks" of this; can find multiple accredited astronomers talking abt it.
this is correct but i've already posted a dozen vulgar and incoherent rants about it so
if you ever want another photo of a black hole, we have to kill him ❤
should i @ the ppl in question and ask them to source their claim, or should i avoid the internet arguments itll cause
SpaceX just launched 57 new Starlink satellites with sun visors to make them less bright. A scientist says that won't stop them from interfering with astronomy.
Wow! This Is What SpaceX's Starlink Satellites Look Like in the Night Sky
Astronomers warn 'wilderness' of southern night sky at risk from SpaceX satellites
SpaceX and Starlink are changing the night sky, and fast
SpaceX will make its Starlink satellites less of a blight on the night sky
