Perspicacious gaze chased the movement of her hand and shifted to the injured one, contemplating if he would have been capable of leaping to his foster sisterâs defense had he not been in a constraining bind in the upstairs corridor. It was useless to ponder what-ifs, however, the grip around his own fork tightening and scoffed, murmuring, âThe weather is never interesting, unless there is a solar eclipse â I might like to hear about that.â Granted, the piece of news he was reading churned his stomach uneasily when he could latch onto a response, and he relinquished the task of chowing down the eggs to nurse his water for a transitory moment. The cold splash down his throat was unlikely to soothe turmoil that anxiety wrought, and he slid the phone across the table with his other hand. He had nothing to hide, and justifiably, he had asked if she had heard the headliner â it was a rude awakening as the cataclysmic tides began to surface, rearing their ugly head against the shoreline as they did against white skies and dreary beaches lining the harbor. Eyeing the pancakes with her makeshift Freddy Krueger hand, the artist pinched his brows and crinkled his nose, offering hoarsely, âWould you like me to cut that for you? So you can actually consume it.â Amusing as the sight was, the younger sibling was reluctant to prolong her torment. Lifting the container of hot water, he poured the steaming liquid into his cup to top it off, grimacing. His brother, the wayward sycophant and recipient of a falsified target on his forehead the summer prior, reduced his confidence in the system. âThe amount of cold cases that get solved is considerably low, either with lack of evidence or an unmotivated system,â the philosopher speculated, at last tearing open a packet of herbal tea and dangling the teabag into the mug. Ephemerally, he was mesmerized by it, the pudge of color smearing into the water pulling him back to the dirty dishes floating in his sink and scrubbing feverishly to hide the specks of his own crimson in its depths when her their father had bustled in the door. âHas pai pestered to check up on you yet?â
AMUSED EYES LOOKED AT HIM, shaking her head in entertainment at orionâs comment on the weather. âfair, but when strong rain or snow can ruin amusement park attendance, it becomes important.â that was her main reason of paying mind to it, not that it mattered much now. still, the circus brought a small smile to her face, even if it was bittersweet at the moment. the normally smiley young woman had been obviously affected by the physical hinderance brought on by the blackwellâs party, even if she tried to downplay it for the sake of othersâ. ânot me, but i think iâd rather hear todayâs temperature than constant news about....that.â every new article had no hope or answers to offer, only more destruction and paranoia. nadia considered herself a pretty positive person, but even now, she was struggling to find the light in it all, and that was before even considering her own injuries. as he slid his phone over, her eyebrows scrunched in concerned confusion. âas if everything that happened that night wasnât enough, now people are stealing corpses?!â her head shook with clear distaste as she considered the idea as reality, even more uncertainty was being added to the already confusing night of the new year. pushing the phone back towards him with her right hand, his offer wasnât expected, and she immediately responded with a teasing, large smile. âand have my little brother cut up my pancakes for me?â the question was asked as if the action was entirely foolish, but as her gaze dropped, she reconsidered, mouth. twisting to the side. there was no use ricking further injury for a breakfast. eyes raising in a bit of a sheepish way, she asked, âwould you mind cutting them up for me?â hopefully, orion wouldnât mind the extra effort that seemed to come with having breakfast with her, as she pushed the plate towards him. âthank you for your realistic, yet pessimistic, view, but iâm going to hold out hope that some answers will be provided.â her head dropped a bit. âi donât want to worry him. iâve, kinda, been downplaying everything for their sake.â
