Hadestown's whole "to know how it ends and still begin to sing it again as if it might turn out this time" theme hits me so hard on a personal level as someone who's generally scared of failing and often ends up not trying at all. You might fail and you probably will but what matters is that you still try again and again and again, because if you keep trying someday you might succeed. And even if you don't it's still important to hang on to that hope

The only times I teared up during the movie were when Hades was crying and when they sung this part. Because I know something about hoping despite knowing it won’t get better—clinging to hope even knowing nothing will change. And yet, somehow, life keeps going and some things do change, while others don’t. This is why we need tragedies, as much as they hurt—to teach us to persevere, and to remind us we aren’t alone in it. It’s just a part of living.

I introduced 911 to a friend of mine last night and she got to this part and said, “You can’t tell me those two aren’t in love! You can see it on their faces!!” And I was so vindicated because yes. You can see it even in the first few seasons. 😩 “Buck is obviously Chris’ other dad!” “I know, trust me. I know.”
