So he's balls deep when he whispers into Shane's ear "I'm going to breed you so fucking hard, it's bound to catch baby."

But then Shane's face goes 😬

And Ilya pauses and asks "what?"

"It's nothing. It's just. Hayden's probably used that line on Jackie before."

Ilya declares Shane to be Katniss (‘so you’re the sad little baker boy?’ ‘I am the very brave very smart baker man’). Hayden is Gale. Obviously.

After watching the second film, Ilya develops a habit of saying if it weren’t for the baby in his best Peeta accent, and it becomes his excuse to get out of anything (‘I would pick up Hayden from the airport… if it weren’t for the baby’). It drives Shane insane, which only makes Ilya say it more. He even ups the ante, and starts touching Shane's stomach while he says it, which makes Shane even more deliciously vibratey angry

At a late summer team barbecue, Bood overhears this (‘My love, I would go and get you a beer… if it weren’t for the baby’, complete with tummy touch) and assumes Hollander is pregnant (he doesn’t concern himself too much with how, it's none of his business, really)

At the first training session of the season, much to the confusion of everyone else, Bood acts like an enforcer and keeps people away from Hollander during scrimmage. He lets Rozy get close, because Rozy is one of his best friends and Bood figures Rozy wouldn’t do shit to his pregnant husband, but then Rozy checks Hollander into the boards hard

“Legolas?” Strider asks, hand finding Legolas’s back. “Where do you go at this hour?” Legolas leans into the hand, lets his eyes close. The sky is not yet dark, and the light seeps through his lids, painting them golden. “I cannot stay in tonight,” he says, as Strider’s thumb rubs back and forth along his spine. “The Mirkwood elves. They think me tamed.” Strider snorts, and uses his hand to push Legolas forwards once more. “They are fools,” he whispers back, and follows Legolas through the gap in the wall.

Hi! I'm doing final edits on the next chapter in AO3 today, so (barring any mixups) this next chapter should be out within the next 24-48 hours :)

“There is a word a nursemaid used for me as a child. Resolute,” Legolas continues, a sad smile on his lips. “She did not intend it as a compliment." “I am on your side,” Strider reminds, not looking up from his book. “Since we have met, I have always been on your side.” “I know,” Legolas replies, coming over to squeeze onto the chair with Strider. Strider moves over for him, makes space, and Legolas heart settles. “Forgive me?”

Across the fire pit, Aragorn watches Legolas with a lowered brow, eyes heavy, and Gimli frowns for a moment before he recognises the emotion. Longing. Gimli cannot stop his brows from jumping to meet his hairline, for this is a most unexpected development.

I'm back with a new one-shot!

I won't bore you too much with the real world, but it's been a TRIP - and it all lead to me getting too anxious to do anything, including posting on AO3/Tumblr and responding to lovely commenters. I'm coming through the other side now, so prepare to be bored of me again :)

Strider pulls away. “I can check for your father, though have only ever seen him in portraits. What does he look like?” Legolas thinks back, tries to remember the colour of his father’s eyes, or the set of his brow, but the memory sits in a dark haze, and so he keeps his answer vague. “He always seemed tall to me, though that may have been because I was a child. His hair was golden, somewhere between the yolk and the white of a fresh egg.” Strider waits for more, and then sighs when none comes. He pats Legolas upon the shoulder, and then looks around the corner. He is back almost immediately, face unreadable. “Ai, your father is here,” Strider says, certain, “there can be no other Mirkwood elf that would be so bold as to argue with Glorfindel.”

I can't believe this is so close to being done - it's been a year-long labour of love, and I will miss writing Child of War. I am however looking forward to anyone who doesn't read WIPs finally getting to read it :D
