Look, I’m not here to judge, sometimes it helps to have a bit of extra juice, and if they mind the minor inconvenience they’ll mostly wander away annoyed afterward.  If you’ve read the previous post and want to leech some of that malignant spirit’s energy, that’s easy enough.  Just include a small gap in the sealing sigil, just enough to drill a hole the same diameter of a stranded wire (10-16 gauge works well).  Strip about an inch of the end of a 18in piece, and insert into the hole until the bottom of the striped end is just above the salt, seal with an epoxy (JB weld makes a water proof epoxy) and carry out the steps.  Instead of disposing of or storing the trap, strip the wire (leaving a few inches still insulated where it meets the epoxy), and reshape the strand to hold a jar, an plate, a crystal, whatever you want to infuse with the negative energy.  

If you’d rather ensnare a spirit, there are options there, too.  I’m sure there are plenty of spells on the internet, but I’ve consistently had success with the following, which I learned from a kind Italian gentleman last year.  It’s a remarkably simple snare, easy enough for a beginner.  

You will need:

Stakes, or dowels, at least 3 but however many more for your enclosure.

Wire, solid (not braided, about 30ft)

A pyrographic tool 

A lure

Again, it’s a simple process.  On one side of the stakes, inscribe something welcoming; it could be a symbol of an open path, unlocked entry, or you could just write “welcome”.  On the other side, do the opposite; inscribe something to deny exit (again, you could just write “stay out”, because when you’re inside going out is coming in, and vice versa).  During the day, drive the stakes into the ground, with the welcome facing out, and wrap the wire around the stakes, traveling the parameter of the enclosure three times.  It helps to sing a song, something catchy, or Taylor Swift’s newest single, whatever you prefer.  Place the lure in the center of the snare; this could be anything that would entice the spirits you’re looking for.  If you’re doing this outside, I’d recommend against food due to animals and bugs, but the choice is up to you.  The first time I tried this I thought to bait the snare with fresh chicken’s blood from our dinner.  Well, all it attracted was bugs and made a mess for me to clean up.  I tried it the next day with a portion of that chicken paprikash, and a few hours later I had a very polite feller waiting for me to come back (all credit to my mother for her recipe).  You could also write a few charms on paper tags and hang those around the perimeter as well.  This is how the gentleman who showed me this technique did it, but I have been out of stock for a while now.  Regardless, the wire and denied entry inscriptions will keep the spirits there until either they become very annoyed, or the snare is broken.

Come back no more than a few days later, it’s impolite to leave spirits ensnared for any longer than you need.  Sho them away, convince them to stay, snag’em in traps, whatever.  Just try not to be an asshole.

Most don’t understand that a malignant spirit is not necessarily a violent entity (though it certainly can be), but usually is a source of negative energy.  To say they have motivations is to presume an uncharacteristic intelligence; most effects are simply due to our shared presence.  Occasionally, the spirit may be sent by someone whom you’ve somehow displeased, or they may latch on to your warmth, or they may haunt your space.  The method behind trapping them, however, is similar (the main difference is how you attract the spirit to the trap, AKA the lure).  You will need the following ingredients:

A container with a lid, preferably sealable (a mason jar works very well)

Clear Quartz, not very large (a little bigger than a quarter)

Black Salt (about 2 cups)

A candle (tea candles work well, small enough to fit within the container)

Black Tourmaline

Sage

A pot filled with water (preferably with a lid), or a bucket

Conditions are ideal with a dusk on a waning gibbous moon, but not necessary.  I’ve found that this makes the luring process easier. 

First, fill the container with half the salt.  Place the quartz down and add the rest of the salt.  There should be some headspace left in the jar, about 1/3 - 1/2 of its total volume. Adjust the amount of salt as needed.  Place the candle into the salt, in the middle of the jar.  Lastly, inscribe on the inside of the lid a sealing sigil.  If the lid is made of metal, this step is done (the metal will create an image of any flux from the sigil, preventing the spirit from breaking it).  If the lid is nonmetallic, inscribe the adjoint of the sigil onto the outside.

Next, we need to lure the spirit into our trap.  The specifics of this step depend on the nature of the spirit.  Some will happily go to the warmth of the candle; others need convincing.  I once had a spirit which was particularly interested in me, so I crafted an effigy of myself which acted as a highly effective lure.  I’ve also had some which were just not interested, and need to be convinced with some myrrh I had spent quite the penny on.  Regardless, be sure to hide yourself during this process, to avoid confusion between the energy coming from you and your trap.  You could hide under a sheet, wear a few Chalcis bands, anoint with the local mud, etc.  Whichever method you choose, light the candle and keep the lid in one hand, while holding the other to the side of the jar to feel for any changes to the quartz.  Therefore, the quartz you use in the trap should be one you’ve spent some time attuning to (making it all the more tragic that it’s lost in the spell).  

Then we wait.  This is the worst part, and why I’d recommend dusk on a waning moon, it usually takes about ten minutes under those conditions.  Otherwise, make sure you’ve had a bathroom break; twice I’ve had to stand still for over five hours.  It’s imperative you remain very still, and stay focused on the quartz. Think of it as your bobber when you’re fishing.  You don’t want to disturb the fish, and when it trips (usually an abrupt change in its tone, a shock, or rapidly decreasing in intensity), close that lid fast.  Let the flame on the candle die out before you move the container.

As soon as that lid’s on, submerge the container in the water.  There should be at least an inch of water on top.  Drop the black tourmaline and sage into the water, and if you have a lid, place it on the pot.  Now that the hard part’s over, leave it to sit for seven nights.  Optionally, at dawn, noon, and dusk it helps to replace the sage and tourmaline.  This process helps the newly trapped spirit subside and mellow, while making it harder for it to escape (which, if your craft isn’t sloppy, it shouldn’t, but it’s better to be safe).

On the seventh dawn, dump the water, toss the sage, recharge the tourmaline and bury that shit somewhere.  The trap isn’t technically inert, but it may as well be so if you wanted to store it in a cupboard or a shed, you could.  Just know that if the container breaks or the lid’s removed, it’ll be free to go on it’s merry way, undoing all your hard work.

As you can see, avoiding malignant spirits is much easier that dealing with them.  “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” -Ben Franklin (I think).
