Y/N peeks her head out of the thick red curtains, her eyes searching the crowd for a certain blond boy. Biting nervously at her bottom when she can't seem to find him in the filled auditorium. "I don't think I've ever seen you this anxious before," a voice behind her loudly observes, the smirk on their face can be practically heard without looking.
"I'm not anxious, Saki-Chan," Y/N protests as she turns away from the curtain, only to see the unimpressed look on her best friend's face.
"I think after six years of friendship, I'd know when you're lying," Saki teases with a raise of her eyebrows to emphasize her point. The two girls had met at the beginning of secondary school in an orchestra class and quickly became close with one another. So close that they had to decided to attend Seiho Girls' High School together. "You must really like this guy for you to be acting this way," Saki continues with a knowing smile. Y/N could only sputter back in response, unable to defend herself from her best friend.
"The show's about to start, I should be tuning my violin. Don't distract me," Y/N pivoted instead before rushing off to the back of the stage. What followed behind her was Saki's laugh. Taking a deep breath, Y/N opened her violin case and refocused herself on the performance. She wouldn't allow Tsukasa's absence shake her β she was better than this. It didn't matter that she personally invited the boy to watch and he hadn't showed; the only thing that should be on her mind now was her violin and sheet music. Y/N settled into her designated seat on the stage, taking resting position as the curtains were drawn. Her eyes stayed on the conductor as he walked onto the stage, knowing it would be useless to see into the crowd as the lights would just blind her instead.
Almost bursting through the auditorium doors, Tsukasa sighed a breath of relief at the sight of the students settling themselves and their instruments on the stage. His search for the perfect bouquet making him regrettably late. Tsukasa's eyes scanned through the young female orchestra with ease, finding Y/N's elegant form easily. He could barely glance away from her long enough to find an available seat, stumbling in the darkness as he tried. Y/N shined differently on the stage. Despite being dressed in plain black βan odd sight for sureβ she still managed to stand out from the rest. Charming in the way she hit the notes as her fingers moved elegantly along the fingerboard. Tsukasa didn't feel versed enough in any language to be able to describe her beauty from as he admired Y/N and her playing.

Tsukasa stood applauding with the rest of the crowd as the performance finished. His eyes following Y/N's form, watching as she disappeared from the stage, behind the curtain. Tsukasa rushed to the stage's edge as the crowd dispersed. He pushed carefully past them so as not to crush his flowers as he worked his way there. Tsukasa felt like he was in elementary, getting giddy and nervous over a crush's attention. "Takajo-Kun?" Y/N questioned, obviously very surprised at the sight of him, as she joined the remaining audience.
"Y/N-Chan," he breathed out in awed response. Her bangs framing her face beautifully and her makeup slightly more intense than usual; making Tsukasa's heart beat out of his chest as he saw the girl for the first time that day. "You look and played so beautiful, today," Tsukasa complimented Y/N, presenting to her the flowers he had chosen for her. She shyly took the small bouquet from him, hiding her smile in them as she sniffed at the flowers.
"You got to watch?"
"Yeah, I did." He smiled before shifting awkwardly and continuing. "Which sorry for being late."
"It's fine, you still showed up," Y/N smiled wider, looking up at the male now.
"Can I take you to dinner?" Tsukasa asked, watching as the girl blinked up at him β obviously surprised at his abruptness.
"I'd very much enjoy that," she responded, taking his hand and leading him out of the auditorium.
"OH! My favorite Shabu-shabu restaurant is right here!" Y/N exclaimed, looking back at the blond male. The small wood building was tucked away in a alley, overshadowed by a large shiny pizza chain next door. "Do you mind if we eat here, Takajo-Kun?" the girl curiously asked as they stopped in front of the alley. "It's not very pricey," Y/N quickly reassured the male.
"I don't mind at all," Tsukasa replied, watching she grew brighter and her eyes sparkled even more. In her excitement, Y/N squeezed the hand interlocked with hers. Tsukasa would pay any price if that was the reaction he would receive in response. The male followed by her, chuckling slightly as she debated to herself on soup base flavors.
"Do you have any preferences?" Y/N asked Tsukasa as they slide into an booth, sitting down next to each other. "I personally like a Tonyu broth."
"Let's order that then," Tsukasa hummed, already clicking the menu screen.
"You also like the Tonyu broth?"
"I like whatever Y/N-Chan likes." Tsukasa focused his attention back to the girl, making eye contact with her. Enjoying the way she shied away from him.
"Takajo-Kun," Y/N quietly whined as she lightly swatted at his arm in her embarrassment.

"Y/N!! Happy birthday," Kitty excitedly squealed as she greeted the other girl with a hug. Almost knocking the two of them to the ground with the force of the hug, if not for Y/N catching herself at the last minute.
"Thank you, Kits," she laughed as she tightly squeezed the Auburn-haired girl back with the same excitement. "You look amazing by the way," Y/N complimented with a smile as they finally pulled away from each other.
"Not nearly as good as you do," Kitty responded, watching as the birthday girl's smile grew wider. Y/N was wearing a red ribbon instead of the usual blue with her uniform and red hair clips adorning her silky bright hair.
"Good morning, darling. And a very happy birthday," a smooth british voice cut in β interrupting into Kitty and Y/N's moment. Neither Minho nor Y/N noticing the way the other girl's expression fell. An awkwardly polite and reluctant one replacing her orginially bright smile. "This is for you," the male continued as he pressed a kiss to his girlfriend's temple as he held up a gift bag.
"Oh, Lovely, you didn't have to," Y/N exclaimed although her smile grew even exponentially wider at the present.
"Of course, I did. Only the best for my darling," Minho replied smugly. Because as he'd told Kitty during Chuseok, his love language was gift-giving. But back then, she had thought of him as an anti-romantic playboy rather than the devoted boyfriend she was a witness to now. And sometimes, especially since the airplane confession, Kitty wondered to herself about what it'd be like if she returned his feelings then. Don't get Kitty wrong βShe loved Y/Nβ but she couldn't help but allow her thoughts to wonder in the depths of her dorm late at night. "Covey," Minho spoke, turning to her and effectively snapping her out of her trance. "Try not to ruin another one of my parties tonight."
"Minho," Y/N reprimanded with a light smack to his chest. Minho returned his attention back to his girlfriend, feining hurt as he cleched at his chest.
"That was an honest mistake. One that I've apologized for already," Kitty responded back, bringing the couple's attention back to her, a little smug with the other girl on her side.
"But Mins got a point. Seriously only mocktails for you tonight, Kitty," Y/N gently told her.
"Of course! I wouldn't dare to ruin your party," Kitty said sincerely with a mock salute, smiling as Y/N smiles at her.
The party was in full swing by the time Kitty managed to find the girl of the hour. She was talking with Madison and Yuri, Minho draped over her and his arm on her waist as though he was apart of the girl's outfit. He might as well be as his red leather jacket deliberately matching with her red baby doll dress. "Hey, I've been looking for you! Happy birthday once again," the auburn girl stepped in, handing Y/N her gift to her.
"Thank you but really you guys, I didn't want any physical presents," Y/N protested even as she accepted the gift. It was true for the past two weeks, the girl had reminded all of her friends not to buy anything material items for her. But Kitty, just like Minho, couldn't stop herself from getting something for Y/N.
"Let me put that somewhere safe for you, darling," Minho offered, reaching to take it when the glint of his bracelet caught Kitty's eyes. It was identical to the one laid upon Y/N's wrist.
"Oh, those are new," Kitty points out teasingly, her curiosity intrigued by the discovery. As a matchmaker, she could obviously tell Minho had gotten the pair of them couple bracelets.
"Yeah, it's one of Mins' birthday gifts!" Y/N's smile flushed over her face β giddy as she giggled over the matching jewelry.
"Adorable," Kitty spoke, voice slightly strained as she tore her eyes away from both Y/N's gleaming smile and bracelet.
"Isn't she?" Minho interjected proudly. Kitty watched as he intertwined his and Y/N's hands together. The boy pressing a quick peck to the back of the birthday girl's hand before rewrapping himself around her.
"If I could get everybody's attention, please," Minho spoke into a mic, standing next to an extravagant two-tiered pink cake decorated with bows and flowers. Kitty watches from afar as Minho reaches out to Y/N with an wide grin and an adoring gaze. "As you all know this was all to celebrate the amazing, beautiful, kind Y/N today." Said girl hiding herself into his shoulder in embarrassment, he only chuckles in response while tucking his head close to her and whispering into her ear. Kitty looks down at her drink, suddenly wishing she hadn't agreed to no alcohol. "And so now I'd liked to invite everyone to sing along with me," Minho finishes before leading all of their friends into song. Y/N steps behind the cake, and Minho βever the gentlemanβ hovers his hand in front of her, careful of her neckline exposing more than desired. The couple making eye contact as the candles are blown out and the rest of their friends cheer.
"Thank you for this, lovely," Y/N turns to Minho, slowly leaning into him.
"Anything for you, darling," Minho responds before closing the distance between the two of them. His arms wrapping around Y/N's waist, pulling her closer to him.
i still haven't watched season 3 but i'm in love with prefect gentleman boyfriend minho who calls his S/O 'darling'. i also think he'd be a very clingy and downbad boyfriend if you couldn't tell after reading this

And only Hyunsu. Not the danger of the situation or the possible danger to yourself. The only thing that matters to you, as you leave your dorm building to go to Green Homes, is a certain black-hair male living there. βββ πππ£πππππ€ β¦ probably not canon timeline accurate κ€ mention of blood and death
You stared at the tv in disbelief, the warning serious in spite of the vague word placement. Despite reading the words flashing on the screen multiple times, your shock lingers. 'Hyunsu.' your mind screams in concern as you grab your phone without tearing your eyes from the television. Blindly clicking the male's emergency contact as the president appears to address the country. The line barely rings before connecting and Hyunsu's deep gruff voice comes through.
"Hello?"
"Did you see the news?"
"No, not really."
"What?! Actually it doesn't matter. Where are you; your apartment building?" you ask him in rapid succesion, giving him no time to respond to his questions.
"Y/N why are you asking me that? Don't do anything stupid right now," Hyunsu says seriously, cutting you off. But he's too late as you're already putting on your shoes and stepping out the door.
"I'm already on the way, Hyunsu," you tell him as you close the door to your dorm.
"No. Don't go outside, stay inside your dorms," he responds sternly before continuing. "It's too dangerous right now."
"Cha Hyunsu, I don't care how dangerous it is, I'm coming to see you," you tell him just as sternly, leaving no room for any further arguement. Having been friends with you for over 10 years, Hyunsu is well aware of your stubborn nature. He can only sigh in response before relunctly agreeing. He's obviously worried for your safety, not wanting you to get hurt or worse. The only reassure being the fact that your dorm is around 30 minutes away from Green Home. Hyunsu can only hope as the sun continued to set that you wouldn't run into too much trouble.
You ducked behind the corner of a building, narrowly avoiding the green liquid-spray directed towards you. Your breathing is heavy as you lean against the brick wall, taking the moment to get air back into your lungs. You're scraped up, bruised, bloodied, and dirtied from running away from the monsters roaming the streets. You peek around the corner once again after catching your breath, momentarily relief flowing through your body as you're met with emptiness. Carefully stepping out from the wall, you move forward β another attempt to make it to Hyunsu.
BANG!
You jumped, looking behind you, your heart racing within your chest. Seeing nothing there, you didn't think twice, you turned back and ran β not staying behind for whatever made said noise. With seemingly no care of your surroundings, you just ran the route to Hyunsu's apartment building. Despite him moving in to Green Home about a week ago, you'd already figured out the best way to get there from your dorm building. Now it's only a matter of surviving long enough to get there and to Hyunsu. And you strongly hoped that said boy was having an easier time than you in the apartments.
It had taken all night but you had done it β you had made your way, alive although heavily battered, to the Green Home Apartment building. It almost didn't seem any different, almost as though it had been protected in a bubble from the mahyem of the rest of the world. The only indication of the recent chaos being the upturned vehciles in what was supposed to be the building's front parking lot. You lean onto your knees, hunching in on yourself as you stop a meter away from the building. You push your hand deep into your pant's pocket in search of your phone β hopefully you hadn't dropped it in the struggle to get here. Unluckily, as you check each & every pocket of your clothing to no avail, the phone was nowhere to be found. But you had come too close for you to give up now so ignoring the pain in your ankle, you walk forward. No sooner than you start, you were stopped in your tracks β helplessly watching as two people, less than half a meter away from you, were pierced by a monster that popped out of thin air. A girl in a high school uniform, who you assumed to be not much younger than you, and a soldier also dressed in his field uniform. You flattered back as you the air seemed to grow thin and black spots spattered your vision. It was your first time witnessing such a thing despite being out on the streets all night. Gathering yourself up again, your eyes scanned the other areas of the building. 'Fine' you thought to yourself determined as you slightly changed directions. 'If I can't go through the front then I'll find another way.' With a hobble as you walked, you made your way to the apartment's underground garage park.
A shattering of an window caught your attention as you silently made your way through the dark space. You paused, in a attempt to locate which direction the sound came from; logically wanting to steer clear of whatever caused the noise. You had barely moved before another sound caught your attention, a phone ringing and a distressed woman in the same area as the window. Turning back around, you found a woman covered in sweat and dirt desperately banging against a chained fence. "Are you okay?" you whispered to her, careful in order not to startle her or anything else that might be lurking. Seemingly failing as she jumped to look at you, obviously not expecting anyone else to be around.
"What are you doing down here?" she questioned, brows furrowed and face hard set as she ignored your own.
"Sneaking in."
"Why?"
"I'm trying to get to someone I care about."
"That's a stupid way to get yourself killed."
"Is it? We all have loved ones that we're worried about β you obviously do too," You pointed out plainly and slightly annoyed at her words. The unknown woman pursed her lips, annoyance slipping through her composed face for a moment. You watched as she slowly pulled herself up to a standing position.
"Come on then," she relented, not looking back for you as she walked away. It wasn't hard to catch up to the woman, her pace slow due to her being heavily injured. "What's your name?"
"Y/N."
"Well, you've got guts Y/N," she compliments you, a little impressed as she sneaks a glance back towards you.
"Not really actually." You don't see any bravery within your actions. For Hyunsu: there was no action that you'd consider too much for him. He is and will always be your person.
"I disagree. And whoever you're trying to get to, is lucky to have someone like you to care for them. Not many people would risk their life as you've had."
"And you? What's your name?" you return the question back to her.
Everyone scrambled to the barricaded stair doors at the loud scared scream that came from behind them. You weren't far behind the residents, trying to peek through the crowd at the scene waiting for the group. You noticed the blood first, a large pool of it spreading as it poured out from the body. But your heart stopped as you realized who's body it was β Hyunsu. Hyunsu was laying at the bottom of the staircase, his head cracked open as blood spilled out from him. The air seemed to be sucked out of the room as you unknowingly released your own scream of anguish. All eyes turned to you, a stranger that majority of them hadn't realized was there, but you paid them no mind β your focus on Hyunsu. You worked your way through the small crowd, closing the distance between you and Hyunsu's still body. Kneeling down next to his head, uncaring of the blood that would stain your legs, you gathered him in your arms.
"Please, please, please," you muttered repeatedly brushing the hair away from his face, holding back the tears threatening to run over your waterline.
"We should move him," a deep and frosty voice spoke from the doorway. You turned to see a tall, bespectaled male β he was carefully observing you and Hyunsu as he slowly approached the two of you. "Make sure he's okay, ya'know?"
You nodded, allowing him to get closer and help you move the unconcious boy. You severly hoped that Hyunsu was only unconcious; you couldn't handle it if you were to lose him β that would be your last straw.
You didn't move away from Hyunsu in the entire 3 hours that it took for him to regain conciousness. Quiet and your eyes trained on him even as you got cleaned up. Uncaring of the rest of the residents that hovered in curious catuion of the male and by association: you.
"Hyunsu," you breathed out, the most relief and content you've felt since the new annoucement, as his eyes finally open wide.
"Y/N?" Hyunsu responded, confusion clear in both his face and voice. "What? When?" he questioned, his eyes searching your face β almost as though he didn't believe you were real and in front of him.
"Some time ago," you answered him as you grabbed his hand in yours. "You really scared me earlier."
"I'm sorry."
"Just promise me, you won't do that to me again. At least not any time soon, please," you begged the dark-hair male, squeezing his hand as you do so. Hyunsu looked into your eyes, squeezing your hand back in return, as he determinely spoke one word in response.
"Promise."

a/n: I haven't written anything in the past few days because I've been stuck in the trenches studying for my last paper π So here's something that's been collecting dust in my drafts for a while.
It started as a joke.
Wellβmaybe not entirely a joke, because once you got your hands on your boyfriend and your makeup bag at the same time, things were bound to escalate.
Leehan had barely sat down at your vanity before you pushed him further into the chair with both hands on his shoulders, announcing very seriously, βToday, you are my victim.β
He blinked up at you lazily, already smiling. βThat doesnβt sound very comforting.β
βShh. Beauty is pain.β
βYou say that whilst holding blush.β
βExactly.β
And somehow, despite fully knowing you were about to mess with him, he still let's you.
He always let's you.
You stood between his legs while he looked up at you with that patient little smile of his, hands naturally finding your waist as if they belonged there.
At first you pretended to take things seriously, lightly dusting blush across his cheeks, but the second you realized how cute he looked with pink cheeks, all self-control disappeared.
βWait,β you whispered dramatically, leaning closer. βOh my god.β
βWhat?β
βYouβre adorable.β
βThatβs concerning.β
βNo, you donβt understand.β
You kept adding more blush, ignoring his increasingly suspicious expression until his cheeks looked permanently flustered. He laughed every time you squinted at him like a perfectionist artist, trying to βblendβ makeup you had absolutely no intention of blending properly.
Then came the stickers.
Leehan shouldβve known the moment you disappeared into your drawer that things were about to get worse.
When you came back holding sheets of tiny pastel stickers, his eyes widened slightly.
βOh no.β
βOh yes.β
You started covering his face with them immediately β tiny stars near his cheeks, little hearts under the corner of his lips, sparkly flowers under his eyes. The entire time he just sat there laughing softly while your tongue poked out in concentration.
βYouβre treating my face like a notebook.β
βMhm.β
βI can literally feel the glue.β

βYouβve gone mad with power.β
You ignored him completely, pressing one final heart sticker onto the tip of his nose before taking a step back to admire your work.
And honestly?
You almost melted on the spot.
The blush made his cheeks look all warm and squishy, the stickers somehow making him look even softer than he already did. Combined with the way his hair kept falling into his eyes, he looked so unfairly pretty that your chest physically hurt a little.
βWait,β you breathed.
Leehan laughed nervously. βWhy do you sound emotional?β
Instead of answering, you leaned sideways to grab one of your cute hair clips off the vanity. He watched curiously while you carefully clipped one side of his hair back, fully exposing his face to you.
Big mistake.
Because now he looked devastating.
Pretty wasnβt even enough of a word anymore.
His cheeks were pink, lips curved into the softest smile, tiny glittery stickers decorating his skin while he sat there holding your waist.
You stared at him for a long moment before the words escaped you without warning.
βIβm so gonna wife you up.β
Leehan immediately burst into laughter.
Like full-body laughter.
His head dropped forward, his grip on your waist tightened, and you could feel him shaking against you whilst you frowned dramatically.
βWhy are you laughing? Iβm serious.β
He looked back up at you, eyes crinkled into crescents. βIβm pretty sure thatβs not how that works, my love.β
You grabbed his cheeks instantly.
βShh. Donβt ruin this for me.β
βIβm just sayingββ
βIn my world,β you interrupted firmly, holding a finger against his lips, βit absolutely works like that.β
His smile softened immediately.
βAnd right now,β you continued, squishing his cheeks together slightly, βyou look like youβd be a very pretty wife.β
The blush on his cheeks somehow looked even darker after that.
βYouβre unbelievable,β he mumbled, trying to hide his face by leaning into your stomach.
You laughed victoriously, threading your fingers through his hair. βBut am I wrong?β
Leehan stayed quiet for a second before mumbling into your shirt, βYou used too much blush for me to answer objectively.β
βThatβs not a no.β
He looked up at you again, stickers still covering half his face, eyes warm and impossibly fond.
βYou know,β he said softly, thumb rubbing against your waist, βthis is probably the weirdest way someoneβs ever confessed they want to marry me.β
You gasped. βProbably?β
βMhm. Thereβs still time for someone to top it.β
You narrowed your eyes before leaning down and kissing the sticker on his nose.
βNot happening,β you whispered. βYouβre stuck with me forever.β
Leehan smiled so softly it nearly killed you on the spot.

"Baby, you okay?" your boyfriend asks, knocking on the bathroom door. "You've been in there for a while," he notes, voice laced with concern. A twinge of pain in your abdomen cuts your reply off. Lowly crying out as you hunch over yourself. Grabbing at the sink counter in an attempt to ease the discomfort.
"Just some cramps," you weakly try to reassure your boyfriend. It was unconvincing as you whimper once again from the pain.
"I'm coming in," Kai says, pushing the door open. You're breathing through your mouth when you feel his palm gently rest onto your back. Moving his hand in circular motions as he attempts to comfort you. You suck in a sharp breath, biting at your lower lip, as you feel your muscles tighten further.
"It really hurts," you cry to Kai, voice cracking and weak with tear welling up in your eyes.
"I know. I'm sorry, baby." You rest your head on his shoulder, gripping his clothes tightly in your fingers as he pulls you into a hug. "Let's go lay down," he urges you. The two of you slowly leave the bathroom and find your way to the couch. "I'll be back. Wait a moment," Kai softly tells you, caressing your cheek. You nod silently β your focus on easing the pain as you curl into a ball. Gritting your teeth when nothing changes.

"Thank you, my love." You weakly smile up at Kai as you take one of his hands. Pursing your lips in his direction, you silently ask him for a kiss.

"Welcome to the 15th Hunger Games! And may the odds be ever in your favor!" the brightly colored man cheerfully announced. He stood out amongst the dull crowd of terrified teens and their families. Their presence an new edition to the reapings and games. Everyone was fair game for the Capitol now β no amount of popularity or money could save anyone now. "Alright, for our Ladies..." they continued in the same manner despite the silence from the crowd. You watched diligently, breathe held in deep anticipation as they grabbed a slip of paper. "Y/N L/N!"
Your ears ringing and breath caught in your throat as everyone's eyes turned to you. As though you were trudging through quicksand, you dragged your feet behind you, slowly splitting away from the crowd. You didn't register going onto the stage, your partner being pullled nor as you were ushered into the district hall.
"3 minutes," a peacekeeper harshly spoke as he opened the door for your parents. Your mother sweeping you up into her arms, your father embracing the both of you. Finally, your tears broke through your waterline as you relaxed into their embrace.
"You're strong," your father said, tears in his eyes and voice breaking slightly. "You stand a chance." The words meant to comfort you despite the truth all of you knew. This was your end. You would leave today, only to return in the same wooden caskets as those before. You nodded wordlessly as you watched your parents β you'd never seen them in this state before. Your father, who always appeared strong & calm, with tears silently streaming down his face. And your mother holding back her sobs with a hand over her mouth.
"Never forget that we love you dear," your mother told you.
"I love the both of you too," you responded, taking them in a hug once again. The minutes passed sooner than you liked, your parents ripped out of the room from you. You were forced in the opposite direction, onto the train with your district partner, Colt, and escort not far ahead. The escort uselessly rambling on about the luxury of the capitol β not that either you or Colt were paying attention. You watched in silence as the train pulled off. Taking in the last of your home's scenery before it was replaced by the Capitol's city sights. As the last of the cow fields disappeared from your sight, you could your stomach churn in protest. You stumbled to a bathroom, ignoring your escort's sounds of possible concern, barely making it to the toilet before the contents of your earlier breakfast left your mouth. The acid burning your throat as it came up.
"Yeah, some home all right," Colt remarked under his breath as the two of you followed.
"It's better than the stables," a male voice spoke from the around the corner. The 8th games Victor, Hanbin from District 6, revealed himself as he joined the three of you in the living room.
"Ah~ There he is, your mentor," your escort excitedly introduced with a clap of their hands. Hanbin grimly smiled at you and Colt as you approached closer.
"So mentor, how do we win?" Colt asked as he sat down on the couch.
"Be smart."
'What resounding advice' you thought as you trailed behind your partner. That wasn't anything new that you couldn't have figured out from watching the games before. Winning the games rarely came down to luck; victors won due to some sort of strength β whether physically or mentally. "That's helpful," you muttered sarcastically.
"It is. Being smart means surviving. And that's why I'm here: to make you smart," Hanbin coldly spat out, emphasizing the last of his words. "Learn from me or don't. It's your life on the line," he continued, crossing his arms on his chest.
"And what advice do you have for us?"
"I can't speak from my own experience on how to charm the capitol but it's best to create a favorable image for yourself," he explains. "But what I do know is: don't paint a target on your back for the other tributes. Downplay any skills you might have," Hanbin advises as he makes pointed eye contact with the two of you.
"What if you have none?" Colt asks. He's younger than you, most likely not yet or recently having joined the work force in 10. And if you can recall correctly: his family works raising some of the livestock than handling any potential weapons. You bite at your cheek as you look away from Colt β feeling pity for the younger, his chances much lower than your already low ones. Based on previous games, he'll be dead within the first 5 minutes of it starting β likely to be killed in the beginning massacre.
"Don't worry, you can learn something in training. And you?" Hanbin's eyes lazily look towards your direction, one of his perfectly groomed eyebrows raised in question.
"I worked in the slaughterhouse with my folks."
"So you must be handy with a knife then."
"I guess," you say with a half-hearted shrug. You didn't particularly think of yourself as skilled in that area. Nor did you think it would helpful in fighting against the other tributes. "But that's only at a close range," you tack on, voice low as you sneak a glance to your left at the younger beside you.
"That's better than nothing," Hanbin responds calmly. He sips at his glass, frowning at the both of you. "I don't know what arena you'll face but my best advice, for the both of you, don't engage yourself in any fights. Running away means survival."
You inhale deeply, the cold wind whisking through the air, as you step outside. Your body aching and sore -- muslces tense in their pain. Rolling your shoulders, you look up at the darkly plain sky. The Capitol's lights having erased the stars you'd typically find comfort in back home. Stepping further out, you jump as you notice the figure of someone else in your peripheral. "OH MY GOD, do you get off on jump-scaring people?" you exclaim to the silent man. He chuckled in response, a smile finding it's way onto his face.
"Sorry," Hanbin spoke, not sounding very apologetic as he continued to laugh. "Force of habit, I guess," Hanbin lightly joked as he turned to properly look at you. Eyeing him, you moved to the other side of the balcony.
"Some habit of yours."
"You'll gain your own after this," he tells you, still facing your direction.
"Sure, I will," you say sarcastically, wistfully looking away to the lifeless night sky. A beat of awkward silence passes between the two of you.
"I miss them too," Hanbin speaks after clearing his throat. "They're probably the one good thing we have in the districts," he continues as though he can't stand the quiet for the moment.
"Yeah," you sigh in agreence. With a smile coming to your face you continue "My Grandpa once taught me how to find their shapes when I was a child."
"Really?" he asks, his eyebrows raised, in shocked amusement. You nod strongly as you uselessly strech your hand out to the sky. "Do you still remember any of them?"
"Not really," you say, your shoulders falling as you turn your attention to him. "He taught me their names but I don't really remember them anymore."
"Did you have a favorite?"
"I do," you answer with a bright grin at his question. "It's depicted to look like a small bear. I don't think there was a story behind it..." you ponder out-loud to Hanbin.
"Does that matter?" he asks, leaning in closer to you. Shaking your head with a laugh, you smile at him.
"No, it doesn't."
"Would you teach me one day? When there's actually stars to see," Hanbin says with his eyes twinkling back at you.
"And now welcome to the stage, from District 10: Y/N L/N!" the announcer β Lucky Flickerman β spoke loudly and enuthistically into the mic. You felt numb, the lights blinding you and the audience's cheers deafening you as you were guided onto the stage. You felt uncomfortable in your clothes β the fabric showing off more skin than you'd like. You wanted to run and cover yourself from the world, not stand and smile in front of their peering eyes.
"Hello, Mr. Flickerman. Nice to meet you," you greeted the older man with a practiced fake smile. Hanbin suggested being friendly was the best option to trying to win over sponsers. To play innocent farm kids rather than ruthless machines or charming heart-throbs.
"Oh so polite," Lucky Flickerman spoke, more to the crowd than you, with a smile.
"It's just how we're raised back home," you responded, laughing despite yourself.
"And such a pretty laugh," he commented with a laugh of his own. "Do you have someone waiting for you in District 10? A lucky man by any chance?" He continued, now looking at you. You resisted the need to squirm under his gaze.
"No, sir. Just my parents are waiting for my return."
"Well, I'm sure the boys will be fighting for a chance with you once you do. I would be," he jokes to his and the audience's amusement. Uneasily you laughed along with them despite your discomfort growing more. You wanted off the stage and out of these clothes β the dreaded capitol apartment seeming appealing to you now. It's offer of semi-privacy from the thousand of eyes on you comforting.

"Amazing! They loved you up there," your escort cheered as you walked down the stairs. Wrapping your arms around yourself, you nodded soullessly to his comment. "You did much better than expected. You're bound to have sponsers at your feet," he rambled on, oblivious to your discomfort.
"Here," a husky voice whispered low into your ear as a black leather jacket was placed onto your shoulders. Turning your head, you made eye contact with Hanbin.
"Thank you," you mouthed to him, eyes overflowing with appretiation as you looked up at him. Hanbin didn't respond, looking away as he instead surveyed the room. Silently, you looped your arms into the jacket β grateful for the cover it provided from lingering eyes.
"Come on," Hanbin spoke, jaw set tightly in displeasure. He gently placed his hand onto your lower back, guiding you futher away from the open area.

You sat in the dark of the room, curled into yourself on the couch. Startling as a door creeked open and the lights flickered on β revealing Hanbin standing there in an oversized white shirt.
"Why are you awake?" he askes, eyebrows furrowed in confusion as he stared at your figure.
"Couldn't sleep," you replied as you curled futher into yourself.
"Why's that?" You watched as he walked past the couch into the kitchen. Casually pouring himself a glass of water as though he hadn't discovered you in the middle of the nightwas a typical interaction for the two of you. And maybe you could trick yourself into belieiving it as well if the thought of tomorrow didn't loom like a dark cloud over your head.
"It might sound a little odd but..." you trailed off, looking away from the older male before continuing. "But I feel dirty. Like their eyes are still on me; looking where I don't want them to." You're taken aback by surprise when the couch dips next to you. Hanbin's hand outstreched towards you, quietly offering a glass of cold water. He's silent as you gently take the cup, urging you to drink through his eyes.
"There's nothing I could say to comfort you." His eyes glide to the thinly concealed camera, jaw clicking as he glares in it's direction. "And if you win, it's not promised to be any better," Hanbin says realitstically β never one to sugar-coat his words. You've come to appericate that aspect from him, especially in a time where everybody seems to be lying.
"So it's better to die?"
"No." Hanbin's head snaps to look at you, his disapporval clear. "Dying means they win: without consquences."
"And what does living mean?" You ask, eyebrow raised curiously, tilting your head as you make eye contact with him.
"That's for you to decide." In stunned silence you watch as Hanbin rises from the couch, returning to his bedroom before stopping infront of the door. "Don't stay up too long," He adds, shortly looking back at you.
It's oddly quiet as you leave your bedroom. While the previous mornings couldn't be described as lively either; today's quiet is grimmer than usual.
"Come, come," your escort urges you, noticing your still lingering figure, with a wave of his hand. "We're on a tight schedule today," he says as though it's regular day back at District 10. As though tonight, the two of you'd return to the apartment for dinner. As though the two of you would return at all. The casuality of his setence angering you but you swallow it down. Choosing instead to stare blankly at the array of food on the table before you as you sit down.
"Here, you should eat something," Hanbin says softly, placing an biscuit onto your plate. In a lackluster manner, you follow his words despite the obselete desair to do so. And once again, time doesn't wait for your preparation. Your escort ushering you and Colt to the elevator in what feels to be a blink of an eye. "Wait a moment," Hanbin says, grabbing your wrist as he holds you back.
"Make it quick." You're surprised, your escort's tone lacking it's typical cheerful upbeat as he advises the two of you. Both you and Hanbin nod, like scolded children, before watching the other two move around the corner.
"Hanbin?" you ask as you turn to the mentor. He's quiet, still watching beyond the corner. "What is it?" you ask again in concern, eyebrows furrowing as you look at him.
"Just.." he trails off, staring at where his hand is still wrapped around your wrist. "Don't count yourself out so soon. I'm not," Hanbin says with a caress to your wrist. You scan his face in stunned silence as his words settle warmly into your chest. The words felt different from his mouth, confident unlike when others had spoke similarly.

You paced in the living room, unknowingly wringing your hands as you did so.

"Shouldn't I be the nervous one right now?"
"You don't get it though, Hanbin," you complained. Following your boyfriend as he turned back into the bedroom. Throwing yourself back onto the desk chair as you continued. "My parents have a very specific kind of partner in mind for me."
"Ouch," Hanbin interjected, placing a hand over his chest despite facing away from you.
"I don't mean it that way."
"I know. I'm just messing with you," he chuckled β way too cheekily for your liking in the moment β and threw a wink in your direction.
"I just... I really want them to like you," you explained further, your hands wringing themselves once more as you avoided Hanbin's eyes.
"And they will," Hanbin reassured you as he delicately kissed you on the forehead. Your eyelids fluttering close with a soft smile. "I promise to be on my best behavior," he said, pulling you up from the chair and helping you into your matching leather jacket.
"You're the best," you whispered softly, leaning into Hanbin's space and pressing a chaste peck onto his lips. You laughed as his face turned red β the blush spreading down his neck and underneath his collar.
"Let's go, don't want to be late." Hanbin urged you towards the front door. "Wanna make a good impression and everything," he spoke hurriedly, only stopping to grab your helmets before continuing to the underground garage of the apartment. You coo at the man who ignores you, instead carefully buckling the helmet onto your head. Smiling as he nudges your forehead in playful feign annoyance.
"I love you~" you sing-song: serious but lightly teasing your boyfriend. Swinging his leg over his bike, Hanbin rolls his eyes as he settles into the seat.
The nerves, which had blown away with the wind as Hanbin expertly swerved through traffic, slam back into you as the bike turns into the restaurant. Your stomach twisting and knotting on itself while your boyfriend parks nearby your parents. They're wearing small smiles on their faces but they're obviously taken aback. Nonetheless you take a deep breath before sliding off the bike and removing your helmet. The two of you fix and soothe each others' helmet hair before finally walking over. You greet your parents with a long-awaited hug and your own small smile. Hanbin waits one step behind, quietly watching as your parents fawn over you. Pulling away, you grab your boyfriend's hand β happiness shining brightly through your eyes, you introduce the three of them.
"Nice to finally meet you in person," your dad politely comments as he shakes hands with Hanbin.
"Likewise," he agrees with a charming smile.
"Let's go in, shall we?" Your mother poses to the group with her own smile. You nervously squeeze Hanbin's hand as you enter the restaurant. He rubbed his thumb over the back of your hand in response.
"So Hanbin, that's a nice bike of yours. What type of model do you got there?" your father asked as you were seated.
"Thank you, sir. It's a bobber; are you interested in motorcycles ?"
"No, not in particular." An awkward silence befalls the table at your father's words.
"Your mother must worry greatly though? I can't imagine any of my children going around on that machine everyday. Y/N, dear, please tell me you are being careful on that thing," your mother chimes in half-heartedly. Her eyes aren't looking at either of you or your boyfriend. Focus on buttering the free dinner roll she's nabbed.
"Don't worry, mom. Hanbin is very safe while riding β he always making sure we're wearing our helmets and proper gear. He also remodified the bike to properly seat us," you answered in the male's defense.
"Isn't there, in the possibility of an accident, an 90% chance of being injured?"
"Um, yes. In an accident, you'd be injured β but with proper protection then you can lessen the fatality of them," Hanbin responds to your parents. "I properly researched into it before purchasing," he continued.
"Hmm, nevertheless," your mother side comments as she bites into her roll with an hum. You spare your boyfriend an sorry glance, your lips and brows drawn tightly together.
"So, Hanbin, what is it that you do for work?" your father breaks the silence, changing the subject half-heartedly.
"I'm an mechanic. Actually I work at a garage not far from our place," the male beams proudly. A smile coming onto your face as you watch the way Hanbin perks up.
"He's very talented in what he does," you happily tack on. Never one not ready to brag about your wonderful boyfriend.
"That's utterly dreadful." And once more the younger couple drooped in their seats.
"Oh dear, please tell me you're not the provider in this relationship. You deserve better than that."
Your jaw dropped as you pushed away from the table. Uncaring for the large screech of the chair against the floor. "The both of you are so insufferably shallow! What I deserve is a happy and loving relationship which if you really loved me; you wouldn't care about the rest. Hanbin cares for me, loves me and yet you can't even see any of that beyond your pre-determined judgement of him!" you reprimanded your parents as you huffed in bubbling anger. You didn't care to hear either of their responses, rushing out of the restaurant with Hanbin in tow. "I'm sorry, Bin. I should've known," you mutter, your voice muffled by your hands, in disappointment. He doesn't respond β carefully turning you around and into his arms.
"Don't apologize, there's no fault in hope," Hanbin quietly reassures you.
"But I know how they are but I still let you experience how harsh they can be."
"That's on them. You are not a reflection of your parents; I know that." He pulls back, just enough to make eye contact, his eyes fiercely set in determination. "Tell me you know that to be true?" he asks, his tone deep and serious as he does. You nod wordlessy in response. "Good, now let's go."
"Where?" you asked confused but following behind your boyfriend nonetheless.
"On a date," he says as though it should be obvious. "You look too good to just go home now." Hanbin turns around then, throwing a flirtatious wink at you. It's your turn to get hot in the cheeks β Hanbin laughing as he mounts his bike.
"Don't tease,~" you whine in embarassment as you pretemd to focus on your helmet. Another chuckle escapes him, the smile on his face growing wider.
"I would never dare," he replies despite the joking tone in his voice. But as your arms slide into place around his waist, he speaks once more. "I'm serious though," he says having grown serious and his smile dimming. "You look amazing and your parents ruin our shouldn't get to ruin our night," Hanbin continues. Your face grows hotter and your heart flutters in your chest. With his words, you found yourself wondering how you gotten so lucky in him.
"You're the best," you tell Hanbin for the second time of the night.

You glared at your boyfriend through the computer screen. Your anger growing as he rolled his eyes. The argument the same as always β him oblivious to someone else's interest in him though to you, it was blaringly obvious.
"It's not a big deal," he stressed in exasperation, running his hand through his hair. "How many times do I have to tell you that I don't see her that way?"
You scoffed at that. He wasn't getting the point. "It doesn't matter if you don't. She does," you fired back to him.
"You don't trust me?"
"I do."
"Then what's the problem?"
"I don't trust her."
He tightened his jaw, the muscles on his neck bulging out, as he restrained his anger. "What does it matter? Your trust in me should be enough," he spoke back. Voice tight as he tried to keep himself from yelling.
You looked away as tears pricked at your eyes. "Why can't you understand?" you asked quietly, almost as if you were speaking more to yourself then him.
"Because you're not making sense," he responded nevertheless. Your breath caught in your chest as the words registered. "We're co-workers. What do you want me to do? Avoid her? Not do my job? What do you want from me, Y/N?" he harshly asked. His eyes, filled with fire, glaring at your down trodden form.
"No. That's not what I'm saying."
"Then what?"
"I... I just- I just want you to be more direct with her," you stammered as you tried to express yourself clearer to your boyfriend.
He loudly scoffed, running his hand through his hair again in frustration. "How much more direct can I get?" he sarcastically questioned. "Mentioning that I'm in a happy relationship isn't enough?" he continued with a rough nod of his head. "And what about you, huh? Are you being direct with the guys around you?" he questioned now.
Your jaw dropped in a silent gasp at the accusation. "Of course, I am." you responded quickly.
"How do I know that?" he asked, raising an eyebrow as his tongue poked at his cheek. "I trust you but apparently that's not good enough anymore."
"I told you; it's not that I don't trust you."
"Yeah, yeah, it's her. I heard you the other fifty thousand times," he interrupted with another roll of his eyes. "You know I don't question you about any of the people you hang around." He licked his lips before continuing. "You know why? Cause I trust you!" His voice slightly raised as he made his point. Standing up from his chair, he leaned in close to camera. "I mean what about: that one guy who gave you a ride? Or your neighbor? Or, hell, that one manager of yours? I could've the same doubts Y/N!" he ranted as he listed his own grievances on his fingers. "I couldn't be doing anything more different than you are?!" he shouted, his upper figure disappearing off screen as he stood to his full height.
"No, you're aren't," you responded finally. You knew your boyfriend turned down suitors the same as you did. But the insecurity still lingered within you despite the logic. "Maybe.." you trailed off, dreading having to say the words. You loved your boyfriend and you didn't want to have to let him go. "Maybe we should break up." And maybe you were just being impulsive; maybe there was a way to work through this. But if it wasn't this argument then there'd be another. This wasn't the first β and it wouldn't be the last if you continued β but they all played out the same. The two of you screaming at each other through screens and phone calls then pretending it never happened in person before starting again as soon as you went back home.
"What?" he questioned, seating back down into screen once more. His face stricken with disbelief.
A single tear escaped your waterline. "I think it's for the best," you explained lightly.
"Like hell it is!" your boyfriend disagreed. "Y/N, baby, come on. We can work past this. This doesn't have to be the thing that breaks us," he begged, his voice soft now as he spoke.
"It isn't. It's an accumulation," you told the man.
"Baby, we can fix this. I'll fly out, come see you, and then we can be okay again. We don't have to break up, okay?" he rushes out, desperately attempting to change your mind. He helplessly watches as you shake your head, more tears having fallen down your cheeks.
"And then we go right back to fighting once you're stepping on the plane to go back?" you ask rhetorically. You don't need his answer, you know the answer already β acted out the answer too many times times already. "Let's not do this anymore to ourselves," you ask him with your starry teary eyes, heart breaking at the wetness in the crevices of his face.
"Please, baby! Please! Let me do better, please," he repeats again, voice cracking harder with each sad plead. You bite your lip, quieting the sob that wants to leave your chest. "What about the in-betweens? Every time we're together? Isn't that enough? What about our love? Isn't that enough? Please I can't lose you," he continues crying. His breathe becoming shorter with each tear that streams down his face and his panic grows.
"I wanted it to be.." you trail off as you're unable to look at your screen. Unable to face his heartbreak any longer. Worried that you'll give into his requests despite your better judgement.
"Then it can be! Waiting for the next time we're together, trusting each other, having one another in mind: it can be enough." His voice is raised again, not out of anger, out of desperation this time. "It can be enough." He's resound in his stance; not there yet. Still in denial of the nature of your relationship, still holding onto hope that no longer exists for the two of you together.
"I'm sorry," you breathe out in an almost whisper as your tears blind your sight. The call clicks as the pointer of your mouse hovers where the digital red button once was. Wrapping your arms around yourself as his ringtone plays in the room β calling you again but you can't pick up. You couldn't let it continue, couldn't let your love continue to fester into distrust and hatred. You wanted it to be, but it just wasn't enough. Not anymore.
the title is based of shawn mendes' song but that's where the similarities end. although the chorus did inspire me to write this piece when i heard while studying at a cafe. also can we talk about the banner for this one too, cause it's so good looking. i think it's my best ever - i love it with the blues and yellows.
