They're technically genderless, but are male presenting and identifying. Their magic alligns with their identities, but can be changed. It's also not always present, so most of the time, they walk around with NO identifiable gendered traits.
Similarly, none of them are straight, but that's just a Monster Thing. Monsters on the whole are generally pan because they come in such a wide variety, but some have preferences (Undyne being mega gay, obv)

EJ
your guy's first meeting is actually a little embarrassing
at least it is for you
for background context, it's been raining on & off the entire week
your shoes don't have the best grip already
almost slipping all day
even on dry ground..
so this was bound to happen to you eventually
it had began raining while you were in class
a light drizzle is going on
but the ground is definetly wet
you & ej are about to cross each other's pathes
when you lose your footing
and down you go
sweet, kind ej checks on you
helping you up and asking if you're okay
your legs are a little bruised up
so you guys go to a nearby convience store
where ej helps you patch yourself up
and you guys make such good conversation that you exchange socials
Fuma
it's your first pokĂŠmon card show
and you're on the hunt to add to your collection
fuma is also there buying packs
maybe you've seen each other while walking around
but neither of you really paid attention
other than a few quick glances
til close to the end
you're trying to negotiate with the seller
the price way too high for your comfort
fuma steps in behind you
warning you that this seller is a scammer
advising you to put the card down & walk away
you follow him
thanking him for his help
nothing else happens that day
both of you moving on with your lives after that interaction
the two of you meet again through a mutual friend
specifically introduced due to your shared pokĂŠmon interest
and that friend was right to do so
you & fuma getting along like a fire
K
the rain comes heavily and suddenly
and you're unprepared
with hands full of groceries
but your place is fairly nearby
so you decide to power through and go without an umbrella
you've barely started walking
when an arm is reaching out and an umbrella is held above you
turning to look, you're met with an handsome stranger
K offers to walk you home
despite needing to go the other way
the two of you making small talk
he's a gentleman through and through
making sure you're always covered as the two of you walk
when you reach your place, you thank him once again
and taking the risk, you shoot your shot
to your surprise he's also interested
exchanging instagrams before he has to go
later setting up a date to see each other again
Nicholas
your first meeting is actually broadcasted on tv
nicho is competing in one of those fashion competition shows
think like project runway or next in fashion
and you're apart of the show's model lineup
of you and nicholas see each other during the filming
but neither of you get the chance to talk with each other
until about halfway through
when the two of you get paired together
nicholas in work mode charms you
he's professional & kind during your guys fittings
throughly explaining his vision, concept and expectations to you
likewise nicholas has admired you and your modeling abilities
since watching you during the first challenge
after your paired challenge
you and nicholas grow closer behind the scenes
it's so obvious that the both of you are attracted to the other
literally everyone can sense the chemistry between the two of you
but neither of you rush into anything
taking the time during and after filming to get to know each other
Yuma
you and yuma are regulars at the same gym
at first your routines didn't align often
meaning you only saw each other very now and then
just enough to gain a small gym crush on yuma
after graduating & going full time
your schedule becomes more consistent
therefore getting to see yuma much more often
one day the two of you happen to be near each other
yuma is watching you do your rep as he's resting between his own sets
almost stepping in when you falter
then later he comes to you with tips on your technique
deciding to take the opportunity for the most of it
you continue the conversation with yuma
the two of you decide to finish the rest of your workout together
at the end you guys exchange instagrams
before setting up a date to do another session together
months later yuma asks you out on an actual date
Jo
another embarrassing meet cute
jo turns red every time it's brought up
always reminding you of how he looked back then
so flashback
you're enjoying a nice day at the park
headphones in, walking on the side path
and jo is there playing basketball with his friends
when he's trying to pass to his friend
except the ball goes flying
and hits you smack dab in the head
jo rushes over with bright red cheeks
stuttering as he's apologizing
even though you're dizzy
you can tell that the boy in front of you is quite cute
not one to let a chance go by
you flirt with jo
telling him that he can make it up to you with ice cream
feeling super apologetic, he readily agrees
leading the way to the nearest ice cream stand
Harua
this might not actually be a meet cute
depends on who you're asking
both you and harua are working as zombie extras
you're both in make-up when you notice him first
admiring his skills in front of the camera
throwing himself into being a zombie every time the slate goes
so during the break
you work up to be courage to approach him
wanting harua's advice to improve
he's caught off guard by your questioning
genuinely having no advice to offer
you found harua's reaction to be amusing
letting out a small giggle in return
the conversation is cut short by a can back to the set
harua doesn't catch up with you again
until the both of you have washed up
you're surprised to see how cute he is without it
and vice versa
shockingly in sync with each other
ask the other to get dinner
Taki
learning is one of your passions
dance being the other
hearing that a choreographer couple would be teaching a class
in japan around the same time of your trip
you immediately book a ticket to attend
not even thinking of the fact
you have no partner
so come time for the class
and your excitement has turned into nerves
shy & standing off to the side you watch everybody else mingle
when taki approaches you
despite your mediocre japanese
you manage to hold good conversation with taki
both of you having come alone
decide to partner with each other
taki is the easiest person to get along with
regardless of the language barrier between the two of you
at some point during the class
you not only exchange socials
but set up another day for taki to take you around the area
Maki
you've heard all about maki
he's the coolest person to exist in your younger cousin's eye
but you've actually never had the chance to met him
until said cousin's team makes it to the finals
they invited maki to join your family to watch them play
your first look at him is from afar
maki is down by the field
talking with your little cousin before the start of the match
and when maki joins the rest of you in the stands
you don't talk with one another
only exchanging polite greetings
before everyone's focus is on your cousin
it's only at the end that the two of properly interact
striking up an unexpectedly deep conversation over celebration pizza
you understand why your cousin admires him so much
a friendship forms from that moment
romantic feelings stirring quietly through the following years
i may or may not have been influenced by the just-finished rainy season by me âđŹđ¤. And actually EJ and K's scenarios happened to me in real life just without any of the cuteness or romance.. đ

Once again, and unsurprisingly, K had missed yet another hangout. You really tried waiting and being considerate, but not even him in sight. Seated alone in the cafe with two drinks you bought with your own money, frustration grew. The plans had been made two weeks prior, and despite K's assurances, he was nowhere to be found.
Unable to bear it any longer, you navigated to your contact list and pressed on his icon, hoping for an explanation. Anxiously biting your nails, you waited through two beeps until he answered with a casual, "Hello?" Your scoff was loud enough for him to hear, a response to his nonchalant greeting after ditching another hangout without any warning.
"Again?"
"Huh?" Did he genuinely believe he had the right to question you after what just happened?
"Are you serious right now? You just missed another hangout, K." His mumbled apology reached your ears, sounding like he was cursing himself for even forgetting. "Damn itâI'm so sorry, YN. Can I make it up to you tomorrow?"
"You've got to be kidding me." You couldnât help the anger slowly rising in you. âIâm here, waiting in the cold for you just to not show up again?â The hot air escaped your mouth as you scoffed. âYou know, you shouldnât suggest ideas for a winter hangout if youâre just going to not appear.â
"Itâit just slipped my mind! I'm sorry," K explained, but you weren't buying it. You've let him slide too many times.
âIt just âslipped out of your mindâ? We planned his hangout 2 weeks priorâyou even promised to show up today! Do you think Iâm really going to buy that bullshit?â
âI know, I shouldnât have done that butââ
âYou say this all the time. What the hell have you been doing?â
âListenâI justâŚâ You could hear him trail off, as if restraining himself from saying more. What could he be hiding that's so important? âIâve been busy.â
âAnd so have I? But I've always spared time to hang out with you and show up to everything you schedule. And suddenly you can't show up to something we both agreed on? K, you're slowly becoming distant with me.â
âIt's not like I'm trying to!â He lowered his tone, recognizing his anger taking hold. âI just couldnât do it today. Itâs justâitâs not something I can tell you that easily.â
âI'm your best friend, what the hell do you mean?â
âIâI can't say. Not right now.â
âYou really have to be an idiot if you think I'm gonna believe that. This friendship canât work if youâre like this.â You pushed your hair back in frustration. "I get it, you're busy. But this is a pattern, K. A pattern I can't keep ignoring," you stated firmly.
"I know, YN. I'm sorry. Let me make it up to you," K continued apologizing.
"I've heard enough apologies, K. You're not the only one with a busy life," you replied, frustration evident in your voice.
"Please, just give me another chance."
But the more he apologized, the more irritated you became. "I need some space, K. Figure out what's going on with you. We'll talk later."
âBut YNââ
âJust leave me alone, will you?â You angrily said, clearly sick of his pleading. âYou clearly have no problem doing so, it seems like, anyways.â Without another word, you hung up, leaving K with the dial tone and a realization that he screwed up real bad.
And youâve made it your goal to make him feel how you felt every time he ditches you.
DAY ONE. K attempted to act as if everything was okay, anticipating that you'd eventually give in and talk to him as you always did. Little did he know, you were determined to make him feel the weight of his actionsâeven if it felt harsh.
âHey YN,â he greeted, met with your silent response.
âYou need help?â you simply shook your head.
âWanna go together?â He tried once more, but you walked away without a word.
Undoubtedly, a sense of guilt crept in, but the memory of that night kept replaying in your mind, fueling the anger you harbored toward him. K seemed to notice the shift, creating awkward moments and growing distantâmuch like that regrettable day.
You didn't care; in your eyes, it was deserved.
DAY THREE. You're enduring the silence longer than you initially thought. Ignoring him, refusing to even cross paths, felt strange considering how inseparable you used to be. School had become a bit dull without him, but you were determined to hold out for a weekâŚright?
âAre you seriously not going to talk to him?â EJ asked, straw twirling between his fingers. âYou're really creeping me out.â He says, as if you arenât supposed to be the one creeped out by him instead for drinking an Iced Americano during the first days of winter.
âWhat do you mean?â you blew onto your cup, closing the lid back to take a sip of your coffee.
âYou never hold grudges like thisâwhat's up with you?â
âOkay...but he messed up.â
âDid you hear him out?â EJ maintained eye contact, sipping his drink. âNot blaming you or anything, just wondering.â
âWellâŚno.â
âYNâŚâ
âWellâif he wanted to, he wouldâve reached out by now!â you tried defending yourself, but he was already sighing.
âYouâre both too stubborn, arenât you guys?â EJ shook his head, smiling a little. âGive him another chanceâoh look, heâs right there,â he pointed, making you whip your head around, only to turn back to EJ when your eyes accidentally met.
âI have to go,â you hurriedly grabbed your bag, saying a quick goodbye. âThanks, EJ!â
âYN, your drinkââ But you were already running off, footsteps following closely behind. You wanted him to reach out, yet here you were, fleeing and feeling like a loser. But facing him seemed unbearable in your current state of embarrassment.
âYN,â a familiar voice called out, a hand on your arm, pulling you toward him. His warmth had such a contrast from the chilling weather today. You turned around, finding K with a serious expression. âCan we please talk?â
You wanted to be petty. For some reason, having K reach out first, you weren't going to make it easy for him. âI don't think there's anything we need to talk about.â
âCan you stop being like that and just talk to me?â
âLike what? Just some lame excuse about why you're missing time with me?â
âIt's not uselessââ K scoffed, running his free hand through his hair, locking eyes with you. âDo you really think I'm just here to tell you the same stuff I've been saying all the time?â
âSo you've been lying?â
âThat's not what I'm trying to sayââ
âI've heard enough.â You tried to pull away from his grasp, but he held on, disappointment evident in his eyes. âYN, what is so hard about sparing a minute of your day? Why is it so hard for you to fucking listen?â
You took a deep breath. âMe? How about you, huh? Have you ever listened to me? Do you think you have the right to say that to me with all this shit youâre doing to me?â
âYNââ
âHereâs your answer then. Because I've spent so much time waiting for you to explain, and you only choose to do it now.â You give him a stern look. âIâm tired of hearing your bullshitâyour constant, useless reassurances when you clearly donât keep your word!â
âI'm tired of waiting for you.â
âYN! Pleaseââ
You turned on your heel, determined to walk away and put an end to the conversation. As you took your first steps, a part of you hoped he would chase after you, while another part was tired of hoping for something that seemed uncertain.
K stood there, conflicted. He debated in his mind whether to let you go or chase after you once again. He longed to. He longed to reveal everything to you. Yet, was it the right moment? Were you even in the proper state of mind to even grasp onto his words? Letting out a substantial sigh, K pivoted, reluctant as he was, and proceeded to walk away from you, leaving you both to walk on two different pathways.
DAY FIVE. K hasn't been showing up to class for the past two days. You felt guilty â you didn't know why, but you had this nagging feeling that it was somehow your fault. EJ quickly picked up on your changed demeanor, his face reflecting concern. As you walked home together, he blurted out, "Did you say goodbye to him?"
You turned to him, confusion etched on your face. You had no idea what EJ was getting at, and he wasn't sure if you even understood the gravity of his words. "Say goodbye to who?"
"To K...?" he hesitated, confirming his suspicions when your expression shifted to one of shock; you were completely unaware. EJ wished he could vanish on the spot.
"EJ, that's not funny." You looked at him, not seeing his joking face heâd usually have. âYouâre jokingâŚright?â
"Well, I'm being serious. I'm not the type to joke about that."
âWhy did I have to say goodbye?â
âHeâs leaving today, YN. Did he not tell you?â
âCan we please talk?â You didnât hear him out.
âYN, what is so hard about sparing a minute of your day? Why is it so hard for you to fucking listen?â He wanted to tell you something important. It was your fault.
âYN! Pleaseââ It was your fault. All yours. No one to blame this time.
âYou mean likeâŚright now?â You looked at EJ, hoping you still had time to make things right with K. With glossy eyes, you could see his hurt expression, knowing what you had put yourself through. âYeah. About to leave at the train station nearby.â
âI have to go.â
âYN! Be careful; you might get hurtââ You didnât care. You didnât care if you were going to get scrapes on your legs, you didnât care if EJ was yelling your nameânothing could hurt more than losing a best friend that you didnât leave off on good terms.
You ran as fast as you could, disregarding the chill in the air and the sting in your lungs. The train station came into view, and there he wasâK, standing with a suitcase, staring into the distance. Your heart raced as you approached him, a mix of relief and fear coursing through your veins.
"K!" you called out, breathless.
He turned to you, surprise and uncertainty flickering in his eyes. "YN? What are you doing here?"
"I... I heard you were leaving," you panted, trying to catch your breath. "I had to see you before you go."
He sighed, his gaze dropping to the ground. "I messed up, YN. I messed up big time, and I'm sorry."
"Let's talk about it," you urged, reaching out to touch his arm.
"I thought it was too late for a conversation," your heart shattered upon hearing those words. "But it was my fault anyway. I should've been truthful with you."
"Quit blaming yourself. It wasn't your faultâit was mine. I should've been more empathetic." Tears threatened to spill over as you maintained intense eye contact with him, your insides twisting with emotion.
âI didnât mean to avoid you,â K began, his eyes searching yours for understanding.
âI know I messed up too,â you admitted. âI should have listened instead of shutting you out. I shouldâve not said those things to you either.â
He nodded, a sad smile playing on his lips. âWe both made mistakes, didn't we? But, letâs not worry too much about itâweâll get over it like we always do. Iâm leaving for a while, but I donât want us to end like this. I care about youâdamn, I even like you, YN," he said, causing you to gasp a little. "Iâm sorry if this is too suddenâI just donât know if Iâd be able to tell you this any other day."
As you stood there, absorbing his unexpected confession, the reality of the situation sank in. "K, why didn't you tell me earlier?" you questioned, a mix of emotions clouding your mind.
He sighed, rubbing the back of his neck nervously. "I was scared, afraid it would ruin our friendship. But now, facing the distance, I couldn't hold it back any longer."
âKââ The train's arrival interrupted your conversation, and K looked at you with hopeful eyes. "I'll be back, YN. Let's talk when I return, okay?" he pleaded.
You nodded, and he pulled you into a hug, and for a moment, it felt like everything might be okay. âYou should go,â K whispered, releasing you from the embrace.
âTake care, okay?â you said, holding back tears.
âYou too, YN. I hope we can figure things out when I come back,â he said, a mixture of hope and uncertainty in his eyes.
"You promise to come back?"
"You know me. Who am I to fail to keep my promisesâwell, besides about the hangouts," he joked, attempting to lighten the mood. You smiled, finding comfort in his smile. "Then can you promise me on this one, and try not to break it?"
"I promise," he extended his pinky finger, waiting for you to interlock with him. Once you did, the warmth of his handâsimilar from last timeâtransferred to yours, making it such a bittersweet moment. He brought his hand closer, kissing the side of your hand. "Hope that wasn't too sudden."
He smiled at your blushing face, releasing your hand. He had noticed how little layers you were wearingâdid you really run like this just to see him? Taking the scarf of his neck, he wrapped it around yours, looking at you lovingly. "I'll do something sweeter next time. See you later, yeah?" You nodded, and he finally carried his bags to the train.
As K stepped onto the train, you stood there, gazing into his tear-filled eyes. How badly he didnât want to cry in front of you. Waving, you declared, "I like you too, K!"
His heart warmed slightly. "I can't hear you," he teased, as he would've done by your side. Smiling, you shouted, "I like you so much!"
The doors closed, and you glimpsed K crying. Witnessing his tears always tugged at your heartstrings, and your own tears flowed uncontrollably. The train started moving, and as K disappeared from view, you stood there with tears streaming down your face. The reality of his departure hit you hard. "Come back soon," you whispered to the wind, as if it could carry your message to him.
Your heart felt heavy, and you couldn't shake off the overwhelming sense of loss. As you wiped away your tears, you realized how much K meant to you and how the abrupt end to your argument had turned into a farewell.
Walking away from the train station, you carried the weight of mixed emotions. The confession, the unspoken feelings, and the promise of a future conversation lingered in the air. Most importantly, the emptiness lingered, but the promise of a reunion kept you going. Determined to make things right when he returned, you whispered to yourself,
He has horrendous table manners due to having spent so long not knowing when and how much heâd be able to eat. Some of the problems he has â he eats too fast, practically wolfing the food down without tasting it. He leans over his plate and wraps his hand around it, just in case anyone gets the smart idea to try to take his food from him. Heâll chew with his mouth closed. Heâll eat with his fingers if itâs quicker and possible. He doesnât really care too much, but heâll try to correct his bad eating habits whenever someone gets on him about them or teases him about them.
His passwords to his phone and on his debit card spell âFUCKâ.
He actually really likes playing match-3 games on his phone. He finds them really relaxing. Heâs really embarrassed about it though as he figures otherâs will consider them âgirlyâ or âdumbâ but when he has down-time and knows nobody else will see his phone screen, he plays them.
He loves the look of braids on people with long hair. It could be boys, girls, or people of indiscriminate gender. Braids just look hella cool to him and he wishes he could learn to braid. Anna doesnât mind him learning on her.
Another thing Eric and Anna do together? Crafting. Eric doesnât mind so much, though he pretends heâs only doing it because he has to. Truth be told, though? He really likes playing around with the hot glue gun.
He has mild aphantasia and has a hard time mentally picturing something. He can think of the idea of that thing and can tell you what it would look like, but the image doesnât really compute in his mind.
He wants to learn to drive. Kamamoto was teaching him but it only took one driving lesson before Kamamoto refused to let him behind the wheel again. Eric hopes to save up enough money for actual driving lessons so he can get his license and a used vehicle.
Problem is that Eric is lousy with money. He cannot keep to a budget. Money burns a hole in his pocket and heâs more a spender than a saver.
While he doesnât like socks for the most part, heâd actually like those brightly striped toe socks. Theyâre dorky but they make him smile.
He prefers knock-off Converse to the actual brand name. Thereâs a lower arch for the most part on the knock-offs and he has flat feet.
He uses whatever toiletries are cheap, normally bought from a convenience store or something like a dollar store. Suave would be one of his go-to brands, especially the fruity smelling ones.
He likes apples but hates apple pies. Thereâs something about the texture of cooked apples that gives him the ick.
He doesnât get podcasts and finds them boring. Though he canât get himself to settle down and read, he does like audiobooks though.
The idea of being married doesnât really appeal to him. While he has his romantic side, he doesnât know if heâll ever want to be someoneâs husband and a father.
He gets into a lot of fights at workplaces, because he tends to rebel against any perceived authority figure, and he gets fired because of disrespect or outright fighting quite a bit more than he should.
Kusanagi is one of the references on Ericâs resume.
Blue is his favourite colour, both for clothing and in general.
He likes the idea of Santa and wishes he couldâve believed in Santa as a kid. It oddly touches him the first time the others make sure he gets a gift from Santa, even though he knows theoretically that the otherâs were the ones to buy him the gift.
this one time i had the idea that adam tripped over on the altar at their wedding and i cannot look at that man the same way ever again
He fuckin would and Barbara would still say âI doâ
Barb would straight up look at him scrambling to get back up and fix his suit and glasses like a huge ass nerd and sheâd be thinking âIâve committed to this man for god knows how long and this whole ass wedding is gonna bind me to him for an indefinite amount of time. This man, who obsesses over cryptids and a highly-detailed model of a suburban town that takes up 90% of the living room of the house weâre moving into after this.... This man...â and then he gives her that goofy, awkward smile and sheâs just like âOh fuck yeah I do.â
