How long had the silence stretched between them? In order to spare herself, Yanfei chose to believe it had only been a few meager minutes, too consumed by her own worries to focus on their conversation. Zibai had been far kinder about it than she could have. They had made quite the journey to Mt. Aocang, only for the usually eager advisor to prove a rather dull companion. Even the wind seemed to scold, tossing her hair every which way as they sat at an unfamiliar table.

“Some things are easier said than done.”

Yanfei sighed, tucking one leg beneath herself while mulling over that advice. Honestly, it seemed Zibai viewed her as far more selfless than she’d call herself. The contract she made with her father all those years ago was an inherently selfish one to stay true to herself – her work being helpful was just a lucky byproduct. Still, she couldn’t shake the feeling that she could be doing more… thoughts for another day. Yanfei couldn’t bear wasting any more of her time.

“We didn’t come all this way to talk about me – there was something you wanted to show me, right?”

Whether intentional or not, his ability to accept her more reserved moments was quietly appreciated, the tension bleeding from her shoulders at the invitation. Castorice never worried about having to give more than she could manage around him, not compelled to make conversation when inevitable silence sat between them. It was a welcomed change of pace from the more talkative Chrysos Heirs.

She surveyed the tray briefly before carefully selecting one of the smaller tarts to try. The maiden had never been particularly fond of most desserts, but she wouldn’t decline such a generous offer. That, and a general aversion to impoliteness – a hard habit to shake at this stage of her journey.

“Wonderful as always.” The praise is hardly heard over the chatter of their surrounding company though she gave a small nod of approval after another bite. If Mydei had wanted a more constructive answer, she might not have been the best to ask.

“You truly have a gift for this. I hope you always have time to pursue such passions.”

"You're that famous legal advisor right? …Do they usually let goats practice law? No one is afraid you will eat the law books?" Keres glanced at the horns then back down at Yanfei, honestly they weren't even expecting a reaction here. They just were killing time while waiting for the heavy rain (which had appeared all too suddenly) to end, their shared cover under this tree forcing a sort of temporary company.

Apparently, being caught in a sudden downpour wasn’t enough of a punishment. Yanfei had been crouched over in a feeble attempt to save a borrowed book when the stranger approached. Yanfei (who had manners) greeted them with a wry smile before returning to her efforts, removing her hat in hopes that the damp pages might have a better chance at survival.

There was a moment she figured she must've misheard them over the noise, brows furrowed together while she craned to look at them. Compliments followed by petty insults… just what this miserable afternoon needed. She scoffed, casting her gaze back towards the soaked ground. The goat comment might have stung when she was a child, but it only served to be bothersome now.

“You must not be from here,” Yanfei commented while rising to her feet. She then shook her hat a few times, sending a spray of rainwater in their direction “–because it’s rude to speak before introducing yourself. For starters, my name is Yanfei.”

Although the situation had been mildly irritating, she took no pleasure in holding grudges over petty matters. There were simply more important things to prioritize. Still, the thought of her brother making this assassin apologize to her again was enough to draw a smile from her. Eros really was his own kind of beast.
