Semi recently OCSN did a little cosplay art event. It was hard not to put Pierrot in this... If I had a nickel for every red yandere clown...

I've answered before he sleeps in a fetal position; so your assessment would be somewhat correct!

The base of his tail isn't super rigid, but it would feel uncomfortable if pressed down for a long period of time, like how we'd get numbness/pins and needles in our limbs from restricted blood flow.

Unless the surface he's laying on is plush enough it doesn't squeeze his tail, he'll naturally shift onto his side to get comfortable. But he still lays on his back from time to time!
