I had school uniforms in middle school and it didn’t stop people from showing off their parents money tbh it just gave the admins an excuse to get people in trouble for wearing traditional clothing on holidays

Rich kids continued to buy expensive backpacks and jewelry that still fit in dress code to show off and SE Asian and indigenous kids got sent home if they came dressed for a holiday or for dance class like idk dude it seems like the uniforms aren’t doing anything good here

The idea behind uniforms is to make everyone equal or something but kids will still invent arbitrary categories to judge people on and adults will find ways to confirm their preexisting biases. There was a black kid once in my class who got sent home because he was color blind and wore a red shirt by accident and I never saw that happen to any of the white kids that accidentally broke dress code so

As someone from australia where uniforms are mandatory in almost all schools, you still have to pay for the uniforms, and they’re often exorbitantly expensive, just acting as another barrier between poorer kids/families and education

parents will be like "We're good parents! We did our best!" while their child is alone in their room, terrified of footsteps, unable to conceptualize being loved by anyone.

parents will literally ruin a child's life a dozen times over and break any hope of ever being seen as a person instead of a burden and instill them with a lifelong aversion to ever taking up space or making noise or using resources or existing and then be like "i know i wasn't perfect but you must understand i did my best" and demand your forgiveness
