Good news: Niu Lai was only pulled from cinemas its hometown, because "the film’s poor quality could harm the city’s image." The rest of China is still screening it.

genuinely I'm so sick of people wanting all fiction to be ethical. can we all just get a little gross with it. the point of fiction is that it's not real. we can be unethical in fiction; same goes with being perverted with fiction, being unrealistic with fiction, and being grotesque with fiction. not all fiction has to be ethical, not every character has to be ethical, and that's okay. can we stop with the puritanism. be gross. be unrealistic. be whatever. if I don't like it it's not my business as long as we're all clear that its fictional.

My woke take, as someone who has worked in both a public library and a school library, is that we desperately need both more books that are at a higher reading level but a less mature subject matter, and more books that are at a lower reading level but a more mature subject matter, because 8 year olds who are advanced readers are still 8 year olds and don't want to read about graphic violence and torture, and teens and adults who have learning difficulties or who are just later readers for whatever reason are still teens and adults and don't want to read about Billy the Bunny going to school or whatever the hell.

idk who needs to hear this but it’s healthier for you to just accept that you’re gonna be kinda fat than it is to live the rest of your life miserably trying to monitor yourself to maintain a skinny weight your body doesn’t want to hold onto

Anyways maybe I've said this before but the more accurate and useful version of what "do you have any hobbies outside of media consumption" is ostensibly supposed to be communicating is something like "do you have any hobbies that are active (physically, mentally, emotionally) and/or generative in some way? Are you actually engaged with the things you do in your free/leisure time or do you let them just passively happen to you?", but unfortunately none of that is as pithy or smug as "do you have any hobbies outside of media consumption" nor does it allow you to bully people for having harmless interests you happen to think are lame but with a thin layer of plausible deniability that prevents people from telling you what an asshole you're being. Also it's really long. So you know it'll probably never take off in the same way the other thing has.
