in her youth, kirasa (under her birth name) was a marine, coming from a long line of service members; however, despite her father's "best" attempts of raising her to be a stand-up marine on the fast-track to one day becoming an officer, kirasa was no good at combat, and found herself relegated to alterations- sewing, tailoring, and ensuring marine uniforms were pristine and combat-ready. despite not caring for the specifics of what she was doing, kirasa did thrive more in her work than she ever did on the field, with her alterations quickly becoming known as the best not only on the base she was assigned to, but with uniforms mailed in or even dropped off by visiting divisions. however, thrive though she might, the military is an especially tough place to be for a closeted trans lesbian, and when she turned 27, she went awol from the marines seeking freedom. that freedom ultimately led her to piracy, joining with a crew of fellow queer individuals who also sought freedom from the constraints of conformity, having heard of a place in paradise where people like them might be able to find it.
for years, kirasa sailed with this crew, until a run-in with the kuja pirates left them robbed of their own spoils- but that incident led to kirasa first meeting angelica. after their parting, kirasa couldn't stop thinking about her, ending up on sabaody as the crew attempted to find ways to rebuild their funds to sail again, only for angelica to arrive one day, looking for kirasa. reunited, the two chose to separate from kirasa's former crew (with their blessings) and set out on their own, eventually going on to form the alabaster pirates- a beautiful, soft stone, able to be shaped however one wills it. sailing with angelica, kirasa used her knowledge from alterations to craft beautiful tactical wear for herself, the crew, and even those further away, eventually building a well-known designer brand called kumomo (クモモ, tr. cloud mother). kumomo designs vary in style, material, and purpose, including lighter sports-like clothing or hardier all-weather gear, it's as the brand's motto says : "mother knows best!"
