Our ship wasn't poorly written at all, they resolved all their problems in the previous seasons culminating with the love confession in s4 and rn all that's left for them to live happily ever after is to defeat Vecna.
It's other canon couples time to shine so obviously we see less of mileven, only thing bothering them is indeed their doubts about their future, because El is on the run from the government & Kali keeps trying to pressure her into sacrificng herself for the greater good.
All we need is for Duffers to not actually kill El in the final episode & for mileven to successfully leave the country.
Maybe that doctor from s2 can help them solve this government problem though.
