“I’D HELP YOU OUT. I mean, just don’t call my previous employers. I wasn’t the Seafood City Supermarket employee of the year. But I swear, the lightswitch and the freezer switch looked identical. And who puts them side by side?” she laughed vibrantly, recalling the particular incident that resulted in pounds of unfrozen rotting fish and her firing. “At least the surge in superhero fans probably means your shop is making money out the wazoo, right?” She picked at a blueberry scone shaped like a heart, contemplating. “Frustrating, at first. Mars was in aries and Saturn was in capricorn so,” she huffed, as if the rest should be self explanatory and he was expected to understand her zodiac talk. “But today Mars and Jupiter trine, and I’ve got a lot of productive energy. So if you need help with anything…”

“You would?” Will was so relieved to hear that she was interested. He didn’t want to go through the process of interviewing people and having to trust someone new. “Don’t worry, I wasn’t planning to. Did they really have the light and freezer switch next to each other? That’s ridiculous. Oh, yeah I’m making so much now. I was making good money before, but now with me being the closest comic book store around here, people just keep flocking to me.” He shook his head. “I’m sorry Mars, Saturn and what the hell did you say?”

                     “I CAN DO IT,” tristan spoke with utter confidence, despite being one WITHOUT any retail skills — “just for one weekend. it’ll be a nice little experience but not something i’d like to do forever. a ONE TIME thing, like hardcore rubber-clad bondage.” plus, it could be a way to immerse himself with the lives of local businesses — there was nothing he loved more than building connections and relationships with people from different walks of life. “i’ll send you my resume, SIR,” he added, as he handed his phone to other male to put in his contact information. “and — judging by the personality you exude, or at least what i’m getting, this is a SEX SHOP right ? the one with all the superhero-themed vibrators and butt plugs ? i saw an ad for it on my instagram feed. ” 

Will was pretty surprised at the man’s enthusiasm. And while he hoped for a more permanent employee, one weekend could be enough of a break that he could do without a new employee for a little while more. “Uh, sure... like bondage.” Will took his phone and began to input his information when suddenly Will heard him say something about his shop being a sex shop? “I’m sorry, what?” As mad as Will should’ve been, he couldn’t stand to do anything but laugh out loud. “A sex shop? Superhero themed vibrators? Butt plugs?” He could see the names for each item in his head, and boy it have been a funny idea.

“I’m surprised you haven’t yet,” she muses as she rests her arms atop her head for a moment, just relaxing. “Well, it’s nice to see people genuinely getting into the comics themselves. Wanting to know about everything beforehand is always the best way to go. Or it could totally mess up the experience of the film. Comic book fans usually have a lot of negative things to say about the films.” Which was true, she’d read so many reviews online after any Marvel film was released. She didn’t care very much for the DC universe. Sighing, she taps her pen against her notebook and laughs, “I wish I did. And I’d help if I could, but I need to spend as much time with Orion when I have days off, as I possibly can.” The five month old needed his mom more than she needed to be working three jobs. “My week’s been productive, but long. I’m ready to go home and pass out.”

“I haven’t gotten anyone to work the hours that I want them to work; its usually a lot of college kids who apply, and their schedules are pretty hectic.” Will nodded his head, getting excited about the conversation. He could talk about comics all day. “It’s pretty 50/50. While its nice to know what happens and to be able to say “hey, I read that”, it sucks to want to see something from the comic and never getting. Aw, how is the little guy? Next time you come to the shop, I’ll give him a free comic and an action figure. And hey, if you ever need a little break, I love children.”

          hosni  turned  his  attention  toward  the  person  he  was  sitting  with.  “  i  know  how  you  feel  ,  i’ll  try  to  get  in  touch  with  a  nephew  of  mine  for  you.  would  he  need  any  experience  workin’  ?  ”  he  asked  curiously.  the  answer  to  his  question  could  easily  be  a  ‘yes’  but  he  just  had  to  be  sure.  “  my  week’s  been  rather  hectic.  never  really  know  how  to  describe  ‘em  but  i  survived  through  it.  thanks  for  asking.  how’s  yours  been  ?  i  know  you’ve  said  it’s  busier  than  ever  but  have  you  tried  closing  a  little  bit  earler  than  usual  for  one  night  ?  ”

“As long as he can push a few buttons, and deal with a some rowdy teenagers, the job is his.” At this point, Will was pretty desperate for someone. No one seemed to want to work a comic store, even though his shop was pretty popular, and paid decently if he did say so himself. “Hectic how? What is it that you do?” He nodded his head slowly. “Yeah, although I feel pretty bad when I see kids, and even grown men coming up to the store to get some late night comic books. I try to limit my early closing days.”

She shimmied into the shirt with a bright smile. “This suits me better anyway, am I right?” Allie gave her bestie a nudge and laughed, leaning on him extra long for added comfort. “Oh Will, it’s not that big of a deal. I’m sure he won’t come back. But if he does- I’ll be sure to grab my knight in shining armor, okay?” the blonde rubbed his shoulder for a moment ( of course referring to him)  before making her way back to the front of the store. “So, closing time soon. You wanna go back to my place and hangout? OR I was thinking that it would be nice to go to the new musuem downtown? You know the one with all the sciencey stuff?”

“Not really; I’d say something related to the batman might look better, but agree to disagree.” Will agreed that he was maybe overreacting a little bit, but he didn’t like how much shit Allie took for her family. “You better. I’m always here for you, you know.” He rearranged a few boxes quickly before following her to the front. “Nerd.” he said, through a cough. He smiled, knowing she wouldn’t take any offense to it. “Museum sounds fun, but we have to get something to eat before. I’m starving.”

                browsing  through  the  racks  of  clothes  in  front  of  her.  lelia  picked  a  few  garments  and  placed  them  in  the  arms  of  the  shopping  assistant  behind  her.  ❝  it’s  not  for  the  oscars.  it’s  for  the  after  party.  who  even  willingly  goes  to  the  ceremony  anymore  ?  like,  no  one  wants  to  watch  and  no  one  wants  to  be  there  either  !  ❞  lelia  has  been  in  attendance  to  the  oscars  since  she  was  a  kid  and  after  last  year’s  three  hour,  fifty  minute  ceremony  you  couldn’t  pay  her  to  go  back.  ❝  but  anyway  january  needs  to  like  end.  doesn’t  this  month  feel  endless  ?  ❞   

Will shook his head, unable to wrap his mind around what she was saying. Maybe it was because he didn’t grow up in anything even remotely near what she grew up in- all that glitz and glam- but he’d die to sit at the Oscars, no matter how long it was. “If you don’t want to go, I’ll go for you.” Sure, it was a joke... But if she actually let him go for her, he wouldn’t say no. “And I agree. January feels too long.”

the small blonde began to take her shirt off, feeling completely comfortable with doing so around him. “ I guess he saw me on tv or something. said something about my family being trash. blah blah blah.” she sighed before throwing her arm back, attempting to find the shirt with one hand- the other holding paper towel to dry herself off. “Please don’t tell me it’s Justice League” she begged. Such a thing would be a betrayal to her heartfelt attachment to The Avengers.

Allie finally turned after proving unable to find the shirt with her fingertips. “And I told him he could come back tomorrow, or next, or next month. Because no matter what- I’m still gonna be here, and he’s eventually going to wanna buy something- I mean… I assume. It sounded better at the time.”

“What the hell?” Will was shaking his head. He could never understand why people would attack Allie about her family; it wasn’t like she represented all of them, did she? “You’re in luck, this was from the Marvel promotion.” He couldn’t help but shake his head again as she spoke. It wasn’t fair that she had to even tell some little punk to chill out, and it especially wasn’t fair that he threw his coffee on her. “What did he look like? I’ll make sure he doesn’t come in here anymore.”
