                         “ everyone’s back , then ? ”   briana croons , a grin on her lips as she sheaths her bloodied sword . she’d emerged from the forests surrounding after near enough aweek or so of patrolling  —-  thought it the best , with the campers to - and - fro-ing . her belt hung heavier with trophies to prove it , skin spattered brown in freckles and dried blood .   “well ? where’d’ya go ? what’d’ya do ? anythin’ nice ? i ain’t been out this place in six years, ‘cept patrolin’ . gimmie the news . y’still got those shiny sleek motors an’ such , or y’got those pretty flyin’ skateboard thingies now ? like the films ? ”

                           “ fun night ?  ah guess , if tha’ sorta thing is meant t’be fun . too confined f’me , ain’t never been to a party tha’ had tha’ kinda routine . reckon it’s english of y’ . speakin’ ah , ”   six years in this camp had meant training in speaking differently  ---  it was the same when their mother left her to tend crops and bless mortals with fine harvest and cattle . briana clears her throat , and pushes through the best americanised pronunciation she can muster . a shame , really . she’d wished a sister would allow her to be her without that  ...  look .   “ ... i didn’t like the dress i got given . wouldn’t let me wear my clothes . did you have a good time ? didn’t see you . ”   didn’t make an effort to . she left within an hour .

                           “ ain’t ‘alf likely you’ll be figurin’ tha’ one out any time soon . i kin ‘least five folks went on up an’ poached that bowl las’ night . y’bes’ off jus’ downin’ a bottle ah pluto an’ prayin’ for th’best , y’ know ? ”   a hangover was nothing for her . raised on fresh wine and jovial festivities , briana could bet her life on drinking even the finest of dionysus’ kin under the table  ---  or at least half - way there . after all , he was mingled more than his fair bit in her kin - line .   “  ...  aye , jus’ crack a good few eggs in a glass a fresh milk an’ you’ll be right . ”
