Ā Ā Ā Vivi was always attracted to the mysterious and supernatural. Any rumors of creepy abandoned mansions immediately caught her attention, and it wouldnāt be long before she went off to investigate - which explained why she was here now.
Ā Ā Ā The mansion had been pretty hard to find. All the rumors were obnoxiously vague, so itād taken hours to come up with an actual location, then there was the actual hike to get there, which had taken way longer than sheād expected it to - for an investigation that was just supposed to beĀ āfor funā, she was pretty sure that sheād put in more work than she did on most of her actual cases.
Ā Ā Ā But hey, no pain, no gain, right?
Ā Ā Ā She slowly pushed open the decrepit door, almost holding her breath in anticipation. The room was dimly lit, which only added to the mystique in her mind. This was⦠so cool! Okay, so it wasnāt especially fancy, or full of treasure, but the layout was interesting and looters hadnāt taken everything, so that was a plus. Honestly, it was kind of exceeding her expectations already.Ā Ā ( Sure, she was hoping for treasures and ghosts, but letās be realistic - it was honestly amazing that there were still moldy books on the bookshelf. )
Ā Ā Ā The gargantuan bookshelf had caught her attention immediately, and she wasted no time in examining the books. They all looked like they were about half a step from falling apart, so she handled them as if they were made of glass. Some of them were too moldy to actually read, but the ones that still had legible writing ( in a language she actually understood ) made her heart race. Most of them seemed to be about magic - which for a supernatural lover like her was basically the jackpot of old books.Ā Ā It was just a shame they were just left out in the elements hereā¦
Ā Ā Ā Vivi gnawed on her lip thoughtfully. She didnāt really want to loot anything, but⦠well, taking one book wouldnāt hurt, right? Especially since she just wanted to preserve itā¦
Ā Ā Ā After a second of waffling she finally decided to just go for it. There werenāt any books like this written anymore, and it was just going to decay if she left it here anyway, right? Sheād just take it home, get it cleaned up and well taken care of - then maybe later sheād come back for another.
Ā Ā Ā A strange feeling of being watched hit her as she put the book in her bag, but she shrugged it off. this place was supposed to be haunted, right? It was probably just her imagination. ⦠except the feeling wouldnāt go away.Ā
Ā Ā Ā Shifting uncomfortably, she slung her bag onto her shoulder and headed for the door. She just needed some fresh air, then she could explore some more of the building. Being cooped up with all the mold was just getting to her. A little direct sunshine would clear everything up.
Ā Ā Ā Unfortunately, it seemed the house had other plans.
Ā Ā Ā The door was locked.Ā
Ā Ā Ā Her forehead hit the door with a bang. Of course the door was locked. Sheād almost forgotten this place was supposed to be haunted. Guess she was going to have to find another way out. She really should have taken someone with her on this trip.
Ā Ā Ā She turned back to the rest of the room, scanning it for any good escape routes. She moved towards a door, only to freeze when she noticed some of the decay slowly repairing herself. Well. This just got more interestingā¦
A ripple effect caused the stillness and musty tranquility of the house to liven.
The presence of another being in the vicinity stirred the old wizard from his sleep. If one could even call it sleep. Like an old mechanical marionette that was turned off after years of disuse and decay, Wicca sat up out of bed, turning his head toward the door.
The spell would trigger long before any human reached visual sight of the mansion.
Decay.
Rot.
Remnants of a life once lived now fallen into ruin and degradation. In many ways, it reflected his own current life.
This wasn't the first time this would happen. Many a wanderer or explorer had come when rumours of the abandoned building caught in their nets. Humans were such silly creatures. So curious. But all of them would see a building and its contents lost to time. Eventually they'd get bored and leave. This girl should be no different. Under his spell he was invisible. A skeleton turned to dust through the passage of time.
As it should be.
He needn't have to be in the same room as her to see what sort of mischief she got into. No, his familiar was his eyes. A creature subtly supernatural in nature. A bat wouldn't be out of place in a building that is being reclaimed by the elements. Wicca relied on this idea.
It had been many years since such an event took place. Once fuelled by a paranoia, the spell had been erected in hopes that people would lose interest. That was when Wicca remembered exploring what should otherwise be long dead and give it new life was something some humans liked doing.
It was contradictory. It was against all the cruelty and barbarism he became familiar with. But then again, he had to remember not all humans were nothing but hatred and blood-thirst. That was once his belief. As hard as it was to think now, in part, at least, it remained true.
Ah. The girl actually picked up one of his books, and was thumbing through it. She seemed interested in one of his spell books in particular. That was particularly dangerous. Perhaps in the future he should decay them more thoroughly. Had she placed it in her bag?
No, this wasnāt going to do at all.
Wicca turned his hand, the door sealing shut. Itās wasnāt locked per se, merely that he was refusing it to be opened. The farce neednāt go any further. Slowly, the rot and decay were repairing itself. The broken furniture was being repaired, the books were losing the mould and the vibrant colours in the room were filling back into their canvases once more. Ā A small smirk formed on his lips as she hit her head against the door with a thunk. It seemed she was quick to catch on what was happening.
What a clever human.
Soon sheād hear creaks of the wood flooring above, and the footfalls of someone heading for the staircase. They were not hurried steps, but wide, confident strides. At once, the room around Vivi would get colder, despite the decrepit fireplace springing to life and the huge cauldron resuming the brew inside, spilling thick mist onto the floor. Whispers uttered in a long-dead language would fill her ears.
If she focused closely on the wisps of thick air that filled the room sheād be able to see the spirits that dwelt here. Unlike most spirits, round and cute like bed sheets in their formlessness, these ones were quite human in shape. But not even that of a more vengeful ghost where the skeletal form was present.
No, these were spirits of flesh, sinew and bone visually. The trauma they suffered in life carved into the after images of what they became. Blood was splattered across their bodies. Many with missing limbs, pallid and without expression. None of them were corporeal, and very few could be seen for more than a second or two. But most of them, as Vivi would discover, were children.
Then if she lost track, the footsteps would become audible again. This time to the banister. A figure stepped out of the upper rooms. He was tall and incredibly thin. Purple and black clothes in a dark cloak, but his fluffy tousled blond hair would draw the eye. Surprisingly, as he turned to face her, sheād notice his face to be rather young. No older than a man in his twenties. Heād look down at her with his chin slightly raised, lids condescendingly lowered, but still couldnāt hide his dark eyes.
āI know why youāre here, little songbird.ā Slowly, Wicca would descend down the stairs, his eyes locked on Vivian the entire time. The fireās light would illuminate him, and his eyes would reflect a more blood red colour. āYouāve been a naughty little thing, trying to steal something from me.ā
A wide grin crept onto his face as he walked closer to her. His teeth were mostly normal, save for the larger than normal canines.
songs that donāt lyrically fit a character but still feel like them cause me such an emotional dilemma when making playlists

For years there had been rumours of an old mansion somewhere out in the woods. Some said it was haunted, all agreed it must have been very old. No one ever saw a single person enter or leave the mansion, so it must have been abandoned.
The archetecture wasnāt from this century, or even the century before. It was much older in looks. There were some people who thought about exploring it, seeing if there were things inside. What secrets or treasures were lurking within the old building? What riches could be found?
Many agreed either way it may be dangerous. There was no telling what the structure was like on the inside. True to rumours, whoever saw the mansion would see a sorry, dilapidated building. Broken windows, rotting wood and missing roof shingles.
There was talk about wild animals taking refuge inside. Previous would-be explorers were scared away by a wolf or bear growl. No one could quite be sure.

@wiccathewizard is lookinā for clues!
[Clues]
Ā Ā Ā Vivi glanced at the stranger, one brow quirked upwards curiously. It wasnāt often someone new wandered into Tempo - especially when there was a string of weird occurrences happening. Most people tended to avoid the town when giant wolves were being spotted all over and small animals were going missing.
Ā Ā Ā Then again, maybe he was just another weirdo like her.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā āWelcome tā Tome Tomb. Lookinā for a particular book, or lookinā for some gossip?Ā āCause I probably have both.ā
He normally didnāt come into human towns. Normally, he was rather happy with solitude. But even so, he couldnāt deny his humanity. He got lonely for human companionship. He chose a rather small community, and hopefully one that wouldnāt mind a stranger skulking around.
Perhaps in the past heād be a little more wary of towns with such high levels of magical energy surrounding it. Then again, perhaps this was the perfect place to hide. Blonde hair in a bale of straw. He barely noticed the voice calling to him when he entered the shop heād been drawn to.
āGossip?ā He tilted his head, his bangs falling into his eyes. āWhat sort of gossip would be worth telling?ā Slowly, he made his way over to the counter, looking the girl up and down. She seemed normal. But it might still be a good idea to see what sorts of things were on peopleās minds.

yo I know we have old threads. Two. Sorry I just leave you hanging like that dude. You wanna continue them or start new ones or what you wanna do? Iāll do my best either way OTL gomen
ahealingpolka:
āOh,ā Her semi-composed expression was practically destroyed by his new compliment, leaving her face bright red again. A part of her was disgusted by the fact that she was so easy to fluster, but there really wasnāt much she could do about it. Sheād never had to deal with attention like this before, after all. No one was ever interested in her talk about plants either.
It was getting overwhelming.
She took a deep breath to calm her racing heart and forced herself to focus on what he was saying instead of her own embarrassment. She even managed to regain her smile.
āWell, I donāt know how many other girls would talk to after you scared them, but I donāt mind. And if youāre hungry, Ā Iāve got some bread and cheese in my basket. Mom always packs me more than I can eat, so I wouldnāt mind sharing some. I mean, if you wantā¦ā
This girl changed completely now that she wasnāt scolding him. He snickered as she fought to pick up the shattered pieces of her composure. The promise of sharing some food perked his interests.
āIād love some!ā It had been forever and a day since he had some cheese. He skooched over closer to Polka and her basket.Ā āThanks, miss!ā
He reached for the basket lid before pulling back. Right. This sort of thing was common between him and the other boys, but the girls preferred politeness. Heād wait for Polka to hand him what she wanted to share.
āSo, is there really a village close by to here? Or did you really come this far out just to pick some flowers?ā
Rescue and Protect
ahealingpolka:
She hadnāt expected a reply, not really. He was still in pretty bad condition, and the fact that heād made any sort of noise at all beyond a groan of pain was honestly kind of amazing. Of course, that didnāt make the silence any less unbearable.
Usually, sheād relish the quiet. However, the fact that it wasnāt silent by choice added to the fact that she could feel her patientās gaze watching her every move was more than enough to make it uncomfortable. Even the task of concocting a pain tonic wasnāt enough to distract her.
Someone had to talk, and since it couldnāt be himā¦
āS-so, youāre probably pretty confused, hm? Oh, d-donāt worry about saying anything, Iāll just kinda talk to myself.ā She forced a laugh,Ā āA-anyway, my nameās Polka, and youāre in my house. Like I said before, I found you in the woods and brought you here. Youāve been asleep for a couple days now, and Iāve been doing my best to get you patched up. Unfortunately, youāre still pretty beat up.ā
Her hands slowed as she briefly considered adding a bit of magic to the tonic. Itād undoubtedly help him heal faster, but if he detected it, sheād be in a whole heap of trouble. Even if he didnāt tell anyone about it, heād still probably be scared of her. Honestly, sometimes magic was more pain than it was worth.
She shook her head to clear it, mentally scolding herself for getting so off-topic. There was so much more to worry about than her petty troubles with magic.
āAlright! Iāve got the tonic finished, so weāre going to start with that, okay? Then Iāll get you some water and, if you can keep that down, Iāll fix you a little broth, okay?āĀ
She offered him a sweet smile before gently propping him up in the bed. She took great care to be careful with him, though she couldnāt keep him from feeling some pain. Still, a soft apology was blurted out anytime he winced or showed any sign of pain. It was just instinct by now.
Eventually, she managed to get him into a semi-sitting position. The next challenge was getting the tonic past his lips, and once that was done she quickly retreated a few paces.
āDid.. that help?ā And did I hide my magic well enough?
How this girl managed to help him up when she looked like she could barely lift half her own weight eluded him. But she proved to be rather strong in her own right, and she helped him sit up just enough to drink the tonic without choking.
There was something about this girl. Something he couldnāt place. It felt familiar and enticing, though all instincts told him to be wary of it. Whatever it was. It was second nature to be wary these days, and what ever this girl offered was long unfamiliar to him by now, though he still craved to find out what that was about her.
The tonic filled his mouth, and a sharp sensation hit his mouth as his muscles seized up from a flavour overload. It filled his mouth, hot and wet, and filled with more sensory stimulus than he knew initially how to handle. It was earthy and floral with a strong bitter taste that usually accompanied medicine. He started salivating to help swallow, but it felt like his throat was dry and closed up, his body seizing in protest to the bellicose astringency. Then that gentle warmness, like the soft caress of petals. He knew that feeling.
Deep red eyes stared up at Polka as he struggled to swallow what was in his mouth. As he did, he swallowed with ease, as if no prior issue was there. He studied her face, unblinking. This was the first time he got to look at her properly and actually see her. That extra last addition he felt was magic, and he felt this particular magic before. He didnāt consciously remember it, but his body knew it well by now. Sheād healed him before.
No, she wasnāt a witch. This girl... Polka, she said her name was, she was just a normal human. It wasnāt very strong magic. Most humans didnāt have strong magic. But it had a signature to it all the same. It was like touch, mannerism or smell. It told him of her frailty, but an enduring strength underneath, and a delicate inclination that went past feminine. What an interesting creature.
He settled back down into the plush, gulping down a lungful of air that desperately needed replenishing. His mouth and throat felt better. The stabbing pain in his stomach however, only grew. His stomach woke up from its dormancy with a voracity heād long suppressed, and with it a little more energy to be alert for the upcoming meal.
His lungs were sore and bruised, his voice hadnāt been used in forever. Still, he parted his lips, still looking at the girl intently despite his hoarse voice, gravelly and deeper than even he remembered.
āThank you.ā

ā - āā¦Wicca?ā
Ā Ā Ā The word was barely above a whisper.
Ā Ā Ā Ā The night was fairly dark, and it had been months since sheād last seen the wizard boy, but Polka could recognize those eyes anywhere. Her grip on her parasol loosened and a smile tugged at her lips.
Ā Ā Ā Ā āā¦Itās been a while, hasnāt it?ā
Truth be told, he didnāt know why heād come back to this place. Or that he was even travelling in this direction at first. Back to this sleepy little settlement. He didnāt stay in one place long anymore. It felt too dangerous. If anything, it should be a decade before heād feel comfortable coming back here.
But it felt comfortable. It felt right, and he didnāt exactly know why. Something about the lush forests and beautiful flowers. Perhaps it was a natural draw to a witch.
Coming back to this town, he knew eventually heād run into her. Or maybe that feeling was hope. Hope for what? Well, she was a human with magic, but still treated as one of them. It was good to see her safe.
He returned her smile with a small tilt of his head. His eyes were soft as he looked upon this delicate girl before him.Ā āIt has been a while, hasnāt it? Itās good to see you, Polka.ā
