I just read a post by a woman recounting a date with Aziz Ansari wherein she left feeling violated and assaulted. The post mentioned a sincere apology from him and admitted to her body language and willingness before the encounter.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not in any way saying any sexual harassment, assault, or misbehavior is acceptable at all. However:

Women need to be ready to defend themselves and speak up, in plain English, what you are feeling about a situation.

This woman said multiple times that “she used verbal and non-verbal cues to indicate how uncomfortable and distressed she was”.

INSTEAD OF RELYING ON NONVERBAL CUES AND HOPING THEY GET THE IDEA, say these words:

“YOU ARE MAKING ME UNCOMFORTABLE.”

“STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING.”

“I DO NOT WANT TO HAVE SEX WITH YOU.”

It’s unfair to refuse to clearly say what you are feeling and then come back with a sexual assault charge against a person who had no clear sign that you wanted things to stop.

I hate seeing women robbing the spotlight and attention for some quick fame from a bad date, when there are women who are going through serious situations that actually warrant action. Ansari realized how his date felt and apologized for the way the evening transpired. There are men out there with actual sinister and dangerous intentions against innocent women who are defenseless.
