Supervillain's Brand (I)
âLeader? Leader!â Medic whispered through the darkness, rousing Leader from their light nap. âLeader?â
âIâm here, Medic,â said Leader, voice reassuring. Leader was sitting with their back against the wall, no, not wall. Leader turned with a groan, their muscles still heavy with sleep and their last fight with Supervillain. Leaderâs hand found cool metal bars and that woke them up immediately.
Their last battle with Supervillain⌠Leader remembers their team sweeping in just in time, just as Supervillainâs fist came down on their temple and darkness swallowed them.
Fuck.
âSupervillain has us?â Leader asked quietly.
âHe used you as leverage. Told us to surrender or heâd kill you. Iâm sorry Leader.â
âNo,â said Leader with a grunt, sitting back against the bars. No wonder they were aching all over. âNo donât be sorry. I would have done the same thing. Where are you?â
Leader squinted against the darkness trying to locate Medic, or anything for that matter. They could barely see their nose in front of their face.
âIâmâ I think Iâm in a cage,â said Medic. Their voice came from the right. Leader lifted their arm through the bars trying to feel for another cage but felt nothing. They took a sharp breath as the reaching movement aggravated a stabbing pain in their ribs. âLeader?â
âIâm okay,â said Leader through grit teeth. Fuck, Supervillain had gotten a few good hits on Leader. Their upper lip was sticking to their nose from no doubt a trail of blood. âAre you okay?â
âYeah⌠weâre all good. Supervillain just took us he didnât touch us, we were just worried about youâŚâ
âWe? Supervillain took all of you?â
A blinding light flashed on and Leader shielded their eyes in the crook of their elbow and heard a couple of familiar moans from the sudden brightness.
âI thought I heard voices,â came the rumbling voice of Supervillain. There was a smile in his voice that set Leaderâs nerves on edge. Leader lowered their arm, blinking quickly trying to adjust to the sudden burst of light. Their eyes settled, taking in the room they were in.
Leader was right. They were in a cage. Solid steel bars lined every edge except the bottom which was just a thick metal edge. Leader could fit comfortably sitting down but there was no way Leader could even think about standing in the cage unless they were on their haunches or kneeling. Even then theyâd have to bend their torso, there was probably room for Leaderâs head again above them and that was it.
Bastard, forcing them to sit like dogs in cages. Leaderâs hand clenched into a fist at their side, glaring up at Supervillain as best they could.
Supervillain stood in his stupid grey three piece suit perfectly tailored to his muscular frame. He wore a charcoal grey overcoat and a black scarf over it and had his cane in both his hands, holding it horizontal as his cruel grey eyes focused on Leader in their cage. Face as expressionless as always, impassive, neutral⌠every part he could control except his grey eyes. His haunting grey eyes that showed exactly what emotion he was feeling. The only part of him that gave Supervillain away.
âHey let us out of here you psycho!â Youngest yelled, kicking at the bars of their cage. Leaderâs eyes went to them. They were the furthest from them on the left. There was a cage between them â where Rogue sat, glaring at Supervillain â then Youngestâs cage after.
Supervillain turned their head to Youngestâs cage and Leaderâs heart dropped. âSprightly little thing arenât you?â
âHow âbout you let me out of this cage and Iâll show you how sprightly I can be, hmm?!â
âYoungest,â Medic said, warning in their voice, to shut up or else. Supervillain walked over to Youngestâs cage and crouched down, putting their cane through the bars. Youngest scrambled back, but there wasnât anywhere to flee to and their back hit the bars with a gentle thud. Leader watched as Supervillainâs cane rested easy on Youngestâs throat.
Youngest swallowed, the cane bobbing with the motion and put a hand up to grab it, but Supervillain batted it away and struck Youngestâs cheek with the cane. Youngestâs cheek whipped to the side with the impact.
âSupervillain!â Leader yelled now at the front bars of the cage, while Medic cried âGet away from them!â
Supervillain didnât do either. Instead they kept their gaze on Youngest and lowered the cane to Youngestâs throat again, digging into it: âHow âbout I chain you up and muzzle you for your insolence, hmm? Will that put manners on you?â
âSupervillain,â said Leader, voice hard. âLeave them alone. If you want to hurt somebody, hurt me!â
Supervillain turned their head and their piercing grey eyes found Leaderâs. âHush, Leader. Itâs rude to interrupt someone. Youâll get your turn.â
Supervillain turned back to Youngest, and Leader and teammates could only watch helplessly from their stupid tiny cages. Leaderâs heart was pounding out of their chest through their ears, as Supervillain used the Cane to force Youngest to look at them. An angry red welt was growing on Youngestâs cheek and they stared at Supervillain with a mixture of fear and hatred.
Supervillain tilted their head. Then asked with their horrible, matter of fact way: âWould you like to be immobilised completely and gagged, Youngest?â
Youngest shook their head side to side. âUse your words,â said Supervillain and Youngest swallowed, then spat out a contemptuous no.
âNo what?â Supervillain asked, and Youngestâs entire face scrunched up in disgust. Leader saw their hands ball into fists at their sides. Leader also saw the tremble in their hands before they made them into fists. The fear coursing through their veins masked with their anger.
Supervillain pressed the cane into Youngestâs throat and their hand shot up again but stopped at Supervillainâs soft: âah-ah-ah. No what, Youngest?â
Humiliation burned red on Youngestâs face as they said: âno, sir.â
Supervillain retracted the cane and stood in one swift movement. âGood. You can learn.â
Supervillain then turned to Leader with his grinning grey eyes. âThey have a lot of potential, Leader. You should be proud.â
âLet them go, Supervillain,â Leader said.
âWhy would I let them go? I have you all right where I want you. Except for you of course, Leader,â said Supervillain, walking towards Leaderâs cage. Leader moved so they were sitting on their arse in the cage, legs stretched out in front of them and back against the bars, craning their neck to keep Supervillain in view. Supervillain stood directly over Leaderâs cage looking down at them with a subtle hint of a smirk tugging at the edge of his lips.
Supervillainâs voice dipped, his rumbling deepening as he practically purred: âYou I want on display. As a warning and a trophy as to what happens to those who oppose me.â
âIn your dreams,â Leader snarled and Supervillain laughed, putting their hands on the top of Leaderâs cage. Leader fought the urge to grab Supervillainâs hand and yank them down on the cage just to wipe that smirk off his stupid face.
âSometimes Leader, if you work hard enough, your dreams can come true. Especially now that I got your little gang here too. Youâd do just anything to protect them, wouldnât you?â Leaderâs heart sank at his words, their mouth going dry. Thatâs why they were here. Because of Leader. Because of Leaderâs weakness to them.
âIf you touch themââ
âI promise I wonât lay a finger on them,â Supervillain said, âas long as you do as I say.â
âNo, Leader!â Rogue hissed from the cage to Leaderâs left. âNo you canât let himââ
âYouâre not sacrificing yourself for us,â said Medic, tone final. âWeâll get out! Weâll find a way, Leader. We always find a way. He just wants you weâll be fine!â
âYeah Leader, I just want you. You gonna make your team suffer in your place?â Supervillain asked with their hideous smiling rumble. Leader stuttered out a breath through their nose, even though it felt like they couldnât breathe. Supervillain was asking something so impossible of them⌠and Leader didnât want to just go along with it as horrible as that sounded.
They didnât want to be the Leader and sacrifice themselves to Supervillainâs sadistic machinations, but if they didnât⌠if they didnât Supervillain would subject his team to them instead. Their team. Their family.
Leader swallowed hard, eyes focused on Supervillainâs cruel grey ones and nodded, just once. Supervillainâs lips spread into a proper smile now, and they got to undoing the lock on top of Leaderâs cage. To the protests from Leaderâs team.
âNo! Leader no! Supervillain! Hurt me instead, hurt me please!â Medic demanded, pleaded, while Rogue just started kicking at the hinges on their cage and yelled in frustration when they got nowhere. Youngest was dead silent as Supervillain lifted the door of the cage and grabbed Leader under the shoulder and helped them out of the cage.
âEasy. Easy, there you go,â Supervillain praised, letting Leader sit back against the cage, sucking in a sharp breath. Supervillain moved his hand down to Leaderâs ribs and Leader shot a hand out, stopping him, breathing heavy and cutting into Supervillain with a glare. Supervillainâs expression remained neutral, yet his eyes were a playful chiding. âI gave you that injury, Leader. Do you really think you can deny me seeing it? Do you really want to risk your teammates getting matching bruises?â
Leaderâs glare softened to one of furious shame, as they let go of Supervillainâs hand and allowed him to lift Leaderâs shirt up to Leaderâs ribs. The cold smile on Supervillainâs face looked wrong. Strange. His hand on Leaderâs ribs was surprisingly warm, as he pressed his palm against it and Leader sucked in a breath, clenching their jaw.
âDoes that hurt?â Supervillain asked with his rolling rumble like falling stone.
âNo. Iâm just peachyâ ow!â Leader cried as Supervillain dug their fingers into Leaderâs ribs. Leader jerked to the side but Supervillain held them firm until Leader was gasping for breath, protesting: âOkay! Okay! It hurts!â
Supervillain removed his hand and dropped Leaderâs shirt. âGood,â he said and stepped back. Leader looked at him, then Rogue was shouting in warning as Supervillainâs cane cracked against Leaderâs bruised ribs. Leader crumbled to their knees, mouth open in a silent scream as they fell, then gasped again on the ground. They were on one hand and their knees, their other hand cradling their ribs protectively.
âLeader! Leader!â Medic was crying, but Leader just sucked in a sharp breath and raised their head to Supervillain again. Eyes narrowing.
Supervillain let out a loud sigh. âStill so insolent,â he said slowly, and cracked the cane against Leaderâs jaw. Leader cried out, struggling to get their balance but it didnât matter. Supervillain kicked at Leaderâs injured ribs again and Leader went down, hitting off the stone floor and curling up protectively around themselves.
Leader opened their eyes to see Rogue reaching out for them between the bars, but they werenât able to reach Leader. Leader saw a flash of grey fabric before a polished shoe slammed down on Rogueâs hand, driving the heel into it.
âNo,â Leader gasped out with a pathetic wheeze. âNoâŚâ they said again, getting to their knees and grabbing at Supervillainâs foot. âMe⌠only⌠meâŚâ
âHear that Roguey? Only Leader, so stop trying to help or Iâll just hurt Leader more, yeah?â Supervillain said, lifting their foot from Rogueâs hand and grabbing Leader by the hair. Leader groaned as Supervillain yanked them up to their knees. âGet up, Leader. To your feet, come on now. I have a lesson to teach you all.â
Leader cried out as Supervillain yanked them up by the hair further and got to their shaky feet, holding onto Supervillain for balance. âGood. Very good. Now give me your hands.â
Cold fear washed through Leaderâs veins at the command. Not their hands, they wanted to say. Anything but their hands. A punch to their ribs and Leader almost doubled over, but Supervillain used the pain as a diversion and cuffed Leaderâs hands together in front of them. The cold metal snapped closed over Leaderâs wrists, tightened to the point that Leader wondered if they would cut off their blood flow.
A strong hand under Leaderâs chin directed their head up to look into those vindictive grey eyes. âCan you stand on your own?â
âMaybe if my ribs werenât aching right now,â Leader grumbled, channeling all their pain, all their hatred into their glare they shot into the fathomless steel grey sea. Supervillain let Leader go, but Leader was ready this time. Both feet planted on the ground, knees bent, hands kept low in front of them.
The side of Supervillainâs lips quipped at Leader, as if they were impressed, but Leader could also very well be drunk on pain right now so they werenât sure if what their eyes showed them were real.
Supervillain took off his black scarf first, then his overcoat and hung them on a hook that was nailed into the door. Next came the suit jacket and he stopped there, hanging that up too. He uncuffed the cuff links from his dress shirt and began rolling up his sleeves.
âThought you were going to treat us to a striptease,â said Leader, forcing their usual devil-may-care smile onto their face. Supervillain flashed a smile too and then Leaderâs head was thrown back, fresh blood dripping down their nose as Supervillain grabbed their hair to bring them up again.
âSee, Leader, itâs not your fault per se, but with you being the Captain of your little team, your cute lil quips have spread like a wildfire throughout your ranks. Which means not only do I want to torture you to the point where you canât even think about any witty comments, but I also want to wring it out of your teammates too.â
Leaderâs hands shot up at the mention of their teammates and Supervillain smiled a handsome smile, as if he was happy to have touched a nerve.
âSo you think Iâm witty?â was all Leader said and Medic let out a tired: âshut up leader.â
âSee?â Supervillain said, hand tightening in Leaderâs hair. âEven they know when to stop.â
Leader just grinned exposing their bloody teeth. They had gone full feral, anything to piss Supervillain off. Anything to keep him off of their teammates. Just bait him. Bait him. Bait all his anger. All his frustration. Donât even let him think about touching their team.
âAre you going to put me in my place or is you talking the torture?â Leader asked, tired. Supervillain could still that spark of defiance in Leaderâs face and he let his mask of indifference shutter down over his own face.
Supervillain turned Leader and began dragging them towards the darkness behind the cages. Leader dragged their feet, their boots scraping along the ground as they were pulled against their will into the deep dark. Fear clasped their heart in a vice as they went stumbling after Supervillainâs long strides.
Lights flickered on around them and Leader could feel all the blood drain from their face. It looked like a fucked up medical room, with tools and utensils on the walls perfectly hung and cabinets full of god knows what.
And in the middle of the room was a metal table. Leader started struggling more now and Supervillain grinned as he felt the pull become more desperate. Supervillain turned to face Leader and revelled in the panic winding through their features. Supervillain yanked Leader forward and shoved them back onto the table. Leader fought them, trying to push Supervillain away but even on a good day they knew they wouldnât be able to.
Supervillain wrestled Leader down, yanking their cuffed wrists above their head and hooking them to the end of the table. Leader yanked them down with all their might but they wouldnât come loose. Supervillain watched Leader struggle until they stopped, lazy grey eyes going to Leaderâs, raising his eyebrows, he asked: âno witty remarks?â
âDo your worst,â is what Leader said and Supervillain grinned.
âOh I intend to,â said Supervillain stepping away from the table and walking over to one of the walls, grabbing a pliers from it and walking back over. Leader felt adrenaline pump through their veins a little too late if you asked Leader, but they tugged on the cuffs all the same just for something to do. Somewhere to put their fear.
Supervillain left the pliers on the metal table then walked back to the cages. The panic seized Leaderâs throat as they leaned up, straining against the ache in their ribs, against the strain on their arms and cried out: âSupervillain! Donât touch them! Just me, remember?!â
The clang of the handcuffs off the metal table was ricocheting through Leaderâs ears like a storm of bullets from their struggling but they didnât care. They saw Supervillain bend and pick up something from the floor and turn to walk back to Leader.
Leader calmed down a bit after seeing it was Supervillainâa cane. âDonât worry Leader. I only have eyes for you. This just requires a more personal touch,â said Supervillain with his rolling voice, a hint of humour rounding his words. When Supervillain stopped beside the metal table Leader was chained to, he clicked a button on the handle and the hidden blade shinked out of the end of the cane.
The dagger had been a nasty surprise when Leader first felt it slice across his cheek. Supervillain had kept it a secret until Leader finally had the advantage over him in a fight, and then that shink changed the entire pace of the fight. That just seemed to be the general theme of Supervillain and Leaderâs relationship.
Supervillain always seemed to have the upper hand.
Supervillain twisted the bottom of the cane and it came loose, the black metal of the cane becoming the hilt of the blade at the bottom. Leader tugged at the handcuffs again. They felt too exposed. Too readily waiting like a lamb for slaughter, they needed to do something.
âNerves getting the better of you?â Supervillain asked, voice quiet as he placed the cane on a table to the side. âI can always drag Medic over here instead if you prefer.â
âYou wouldnât live to see tomorrow if you did,â Leader hissed and Supervillain smiled down at them.
âJust making sure. Now, to business,â said Supervillain. They grabbed Leaderâs shirt and cut it loose with the blade. The cool metal scraped against Leaderâs abdomen and chest causing a shiver to run down their spine. Supervillain turned back to face the cages and said louder so everyone could hear: âis everyone paying attention? Good. This is what happens you just donât know when to stop and piss me off. Pay attention Youngest.â
The harsh tug of metal and Supervillain smiled to himself, turning back to Leader. All helpless and angry below him. Supervillain nearly sighed and stopped his work to just bask in how long it took him to finally get Leader here. Right where he wanted them, to finally hear them scream and not be able to fight back whatsoever.
Not with their hands.
Not with their words.
He wanted them broken, and hollow, to be moulded into something more after Supervillain was finished with them. The potential just sat idle under their skin and Supervillain would be the man to bring it out into the sunlight. That untapped nugget of something extraordinary.
Supervillain walked around the other side of the table, dagger in hand, then hummed, walking to the other side again. Mouth screwing up in concentration. Then, mind made up he sighed and climbed onto the table, straddling Leaderâs waist with a knee on either side.
âAt least buy me dinner firâ uhst,â Leader gasped as Supervillain pressed their ribs with his fingers.
âI need you to hold still for me now Leader, and tell me when it hurts.â
Supervillain wished he could have photographed the beautiful confusion on Leaderâs face before he leaned over them, pinning their shoulder to table and started carving the first initial of Supervillainâs name just below Leaderâs right shoulder.
Leader screamed as Supervillain dragged the blade through skin as if it was as easy as paper, thrashing in their restraints and screaming. Trying to loosen the handcuffs from the hook or jab a knee into Supervillainâs side, crotch, leg â anything. Anything to stop the pain that burned through Leaderâs shoulder.
âHold still. Almost there,â said Supervillain and placed a steadying hand on Leaderâs bruised ribs to keep them down. Leader opened their mouth in a silent scream, trying to alleviate the pressure by sucking in their stomach and pushing it out. Twisting, writhing, turningâ nothing could make them feel better.
Supervillain leaned back and smiled down at Leader. Leader was just happy they had finally stopped, but it didnât stop the stinging pain from the deep cuts that were still bubbling warm blood down Leaderâs torso and onto the table. To Leaderâs horror, Supervillain reached back and picked up the pliers they had left on the edge of the table.
Supervillain brought them down to Leaderâs fresh cuts and Leader shook their head, tears streaming down their face. âSupervillainâ donât- donât!â
âSssh,â Supervillain cooed, pressing a bloody finger to Leaderâs lips. âRelax. I just need to make sure itâll last.â
That sentence did anything but reassure Leader and before Leader could tell Supervillain that they would rate him poorly on yelp, the pliers was in his skin. The metal bites opening Leaderâs flesh, ripping them further apart. Leader screamed from their gut, like a banshee, except worse because they knew merciful death wasnât coming after the torture. It was just more torture.
Leader was in and out of consciousness by the time Supervillain was done, blinking hazily up at the monster above them. âGood. Done. You did so good. Thatâsââ supervillain said with a laugh. âThatâs gonna leave one hell of a scar, Leader. Youâll die with that one.â
âLeader. Leader. Leader. Whereâs your usual banter, hmm? No funny input? I didnât expect you to break so soon.â
Leader couldnât even tug at their restraints in protest anymore. Their body was exhausted from healing and the adrenaline leaving their system. Supervillain lifted the bloody pliers so Leader could see it and sighed.
âYou know the pliers was fun, but I think a clamp would be much more effective at ensuring scarring, wouldnât you Medic?â
Leader barely heard Medicâs desperate reply. âPlease⌠Supervillain. Please, let me look at them. I can heal them, make sureââ
âEnough. I donât want them healed. I want them suffering. Although I do enjoy this whole family trauma thing, it does spice up the torture a bit.â
Supervillain was off Leader them and Leader nearly passed out with relief. Until their eyes followed Supervillain to the wall again and they pulled out a medical clamp, and the breath was taken from them.
Supervillain wasnât done with Leader⌠they werenât finished yet.
Sure enough Supervillain climbed back on top of Leader in the same position as before with their blood slicked knife in hand and a clamp in the other.
âYou⌠youâre⌠I thoughtââ
âYou thought we were done?â Supervillain asked and then laughed. A humourless, evil sound. âNo. No. That was just the initial of my first name, Leader. How else will people know I tamed you if I donât write my last name too?â
Distantly Leader could hear Rogue and Youngest shouting, protesting, calling Supervillain ever name under the sun and screaming. Pleading.
It all melded together in the static in Leaderâs brain.
âIn all honesty, Leader, you should be thanking whatever God is looking down at you that I donât have a double barrel last name or weâd run out of body parts.â
Supervillain leaned over and pinned Leaderâs left shoulder before getting to carving again. Leader screamed and cried and screamed some more and eventually, mercifully, they passed out on the table.
Nothing beats a Doctor Whumper who pins Whumpee down and injects a sedative into their veins so they can strap the soft padded cuffs around Whumpee's wrists and ankles. Then, they stroke a gloved hand over Whumpee's forehead and whisper "I wish you wouldn't make things so much harder for yourself. This if for your own good" , with a patronisingly sympathetic smile.
âBut youâre just a dog to Hero.. arenât you?â Villain pouts pitiful, looking at the panting sidekick who knelt before them, battered and bruised,
âI mean look at you, Sidekick, youâre pushing past the threshold your body can only handle. Itâs quite⌠pathetic really.â
Sidekick keels over, their arm wrapped around their torso as they desperately try to stop the bleeding from the dagger Henchman had so kindly impaled them with.
He didnât notice Villain stepping forward until two opened toe- heels came to view. Two fingers took his chin and he was forced to look up at the villain, blood wetting his lips.

Living Weapon slides across the floor of the van as it skids to a stop. Handler hops out of the driverâs seat and opens the door, âHurry up.âÂ
It crawls out of the van and smooths out its shirt. It huffs and stares at the ground.Â
Handler tilts her head accusingly and hisses, âDo you have something you need to say?âÂ
âNo,â it replies, wringing its hands behind its back. âLetâs justâŚget this over with.âÂ
Handler smiles tightly and claps Living Weapon on the back. It tenses under her hand and exhales sharply. It closes its eyes and tightens its hand into a fist, its nails digging into the palm of its hand.Â
Handler walks forward, snapping her fingers at Living Weapon to get it to follow her.
She stops right outside the boundary to the park and pulls Living Weapon under a tree. She points around the trunk and sighs. âThereâs Sidekick. Make sure no one is watching and bring him back here.âÂ
It nods and glides into the park. A parent sitting on a bench glances at it and nudges another parent, soon everyone in the park will be looking at it.Â
It curses and runs over to Sidekick with a plastered on smile. âHi, Iâm sorry, but can I borrow your phone? I need to make a call but mineâs dead.âÂ
Sidekick looks it up and down before shrugging. He holds the phone out to Living Weapon. It sighs gratefully and takes the phone in its hands.Â
It dials a phony number and looks at Sidekick apologetically, âIâm so sorry, but do you mind if I go just right over there?â it points to where Handler is hiding in the shadow. âItâs a bit private. I mean-if you want to you can come but I donât want everyone in the park being able to hear. Yâknow?â
Sidekick nods enthusiastically and practically ushers it out of the wide open park. As soon as they pass the gate to the park, Living Weapon drops the phone onto the ground and when Sidekick bends down to pick it up, it wraps an arm around his throat. It clasps its other hand over his mouth and tightens the arm around his throat.Â
âIâm sorry,â it whispers, pulling him to his feet and dragging him over to Handler. Sidekick thrashes in its arms, trying to scream through its Living Weaponâs hand. Living Weapon drags him behind Handlerâs hiding spot and lifts him off his feet.Â
Handler steps out of the shadows and smiles cruelly, âSidekick, itâs been a while.âÂ
His breathing becomes erratic and Living Weapon can feel his pulse quicken through the vein on his neck. He shakes his head and tries to stomp his foot on its.Â
Handler walks up to him and puts her hand on his cheek, âNow, now. Is that any way to treat an old friend?âÂ
He exhales sharply and glares daggers at her. She rolls her eyes and waves her hand dismissively. She looks at Living Weapon and nods, âYou know what to do?âÂ
It shakes its head, tears springing into its eyes. She purses her lips and nods, âYes. You do. So letâs see some action.âÂ
In one swift movement, Living Weapon removes the hand around Sidekickâs throat and pulls the syringe out of its pocket. It uses its teeth to take the cap off and sinks the needle into Sidekickâs shoulder. It presses on the plunger and watches as the almost clear liquid is pushed into Sidekickâs arm.Â
Sidekick starts to go limp almost as soon as it pulls the needle out of his arm. He looks at Handler and asks, âWhat the hell was that?âÂ
âIâm notâŚone hundred percent sure to be honest.â She says, tilting her head.Â
Living Weapon drops the syringe and props Sidekick up against itself. It wraps its arms around his torso and says again, âIâm sorry.âÂ
Handler waves her hand and scoffs, âLet him go.âÂ
Living Weapon takes a breath and looks at Sidekick, limp in its arms, and stares at Handler. She stares at him, shock painted on her face.Â
âLiving WeaponâŚâ she warns, voice spine-chillingly low, âLet. Him. Go.âÂ
It looks at him once again, and it wishes it could keep a hold of him. It wishes it could disobey Handler.Â
Sidekick falls to the ground with a stomach turning thump and the leaves crunch underneath him, releasing their moldy scent into the air.
Villain jumped at the broken voice, spinning quickly to try and tell where it came from.
In the shadows of the warehouse then- they catch his eyes. Sidekick.
He stumbles forward, tears tracks soaking his face that no doubt had ran cold by now. His arms hug his torso and he sets his jaw,
âHe-heroâs dead. Itâs what you wanted.. isnât it??!?â His voice grew bitter with each word and Villain then noticed the dagger in sidekickâs hand.
âSidekick, letâs just talk this out-â
âOh what,â Sidekick laughs, tears filling his eyes in seconds, âDonât pretend thatâs not why youâre here.â
Villains closes their mouth, swallowing hard.
âYeah, thought so. I guess someone got there first.â
The sound of a gun cocking fills the warehouse followed by a third voice;
âI guess someone did.â
Villainâs eyes widen and they feel their stomach drop,
âSu-super Villain.â
Super Villain chuckles, grabbing Sidekick across the chest and putting the gun to his head,

âIâll be fine,â Whumpee snarled in reply, trying to ignore the dull throbbing pain that still rocked their body. A snarl was pretty much all they had in defence by now. They could barely move, ribs bruised, arm broken, body battered.
And Whumper knew it.
âWill you, now?â He circled them, slowly, deliberately. The click of his shoes on the concrete echoed through the room and sonared right into Whumpeeâs heart, amplifying their fear. Speeding up their breathing. Tensing their muscles.
The soft sounds of a predator.
Drawing out a now rather useless flight or fight response. Lovely.
He loved how the smallest things seemed to affect them. Sure, pain was a marvelous way to draw them out, but just little sounds like this? How they managed to widen eyes and speed up heart beats? Priceless.
âI actually meant to give you a bit of a reprieve.â He stopped behind them, smiled as he watched them resist the urge to look back. âSeeing as youâre so beat up.â
He nudged his shoe softly against their ribcage and Whumpee hissed.
âBut if you say itâs fine⌠Well, who am I to say otherwise. You know your body best.â
If he meant his taunts for Whumpee to crumple at the loss of their reprieve, it didnât work. They looked up and bit:
âDidnât say Iâm fine. You deaf or just plain stupid?â
âOof,â Whumper winced dramatically. He unbuttoned his cuffs and started rolling up his sleeves.
âMaybe I am a little hard of hearing, who knows,â he conceded. âBut thereâs an easy solution to that.â
Before Whumpee could snarl another insult, pain shot through their body as it was pulled up by force and they were deposited onto their knees. One fist curled painfully tight in their hair, the other clamped around their throat, effectively stealing a rising cry of pain. He held them up, tilted their head back to make eye contact as he closed in on them and whispered:

âCivil??â Villain scoffed, eyebrows raised in disbelief, âOh you have got to be kidding me!â The slight smirk that tugged at their lips vanished just as quick as it appeared as they take another step forward, causing the hero to step back.
âYou lost the the privelage of civil when you killed my Sidekick.â

Hero was quickly cut off as Villainâs gun fired, a bullet whizzing past their face and through the wall right by them.
âWarning shot, now sit the fuck down and do as I say, or next time I wonât be so nice.â
