I'm genuinely convinced that for every New Girl episode they gave out scripts for everyone except Jake Johnson and instead just dropped him in the middle of the set and told him to roll with whatever was going on around him

on my current community rewatch i have now arrived at emotional consequences of broadcast television. don’t think i‘ve ever been or will ever be emotionally prepared to watch that episode.

one of my favorite lines from schmidt in new girl will always be when cece says, “oh, i didn’t know you cared about nick & jess that much?” and schmidt’s like “are you kidding? he’s rough & tumble, she’s soft & sweet. i’ve been watching the two of them dance this dance for six years” and the entire time he is staring off into the distance like a shakespeare character monologuing, because schmidt’s the true fan girl

honestly what gets me about jeff and annie is that she never once has to prove herself to him. jeff looks at her with such awe and it comes so naturally to him and there’s never a moment when she needs to fight for his respect. on the flip side, annie never asks jeff to become better *for her* but she encourages him to do it for himself because she knows he’s a good guy who genuinely cares about other people but just needs to get some more practice in. she doesn’t let him get too comfortable with being an asshole, but she also doesn’t make him into some sort of villain when he fucks up, as some members of the study group are wont to do. annie needs someone she doesn’t need to impress and jeff needs someone who can be impressed by him, even with how much he’s messed up, and idk guys i just think it’s beautiful how well they fit, you know?
