Ah, a creature of refined taste. Sterling felt an ember of pride glow in his chest, he liked to think he could adapt well enough to any situation. Even if it was a social one. Youâll get along fine. Even if the words were empty platitudes. âThatâs fair, weâre not normally known to be social creatures,â he returns easily âThe young are but well, the young of any species tends to be the more approachable ones.âÂ
He wondered if it was the same across all other beings, that the older they got the colder they became. In humans whatever status one could garner from a long life was marred by health complications to the point that it became nothing more than something to pity. Frail. Weak. Not unlike an infant but lacking the certain want to protect and nurture. Sterling may have a decent sum of knowledge of most species, but he couldnât honestly say heâd interacting with many of them in their elder years.Â
It was better to stay away from such senior vampires.Â
His short laugh was almost self-depreciating âYes, Iâll admit to that ready enough,â it would be foolish of him not to âItâs not a skill Iâve been able to improve with ageâŚdespite everyone saying it should be otherwise.â
Itâs not a pleasure visit, itâs a transaction. Purchasing a handful of bags and a small unlabeled cooler bag with which to carry them in. Hopefully the witch wouldnât be against him drinking in his presence. If so, then he could always simply sit outside and do so, a return to how he started his evening. âThank you for waiting.â he says once he exits the bar, slinging the bag over one shoulder âAre you certain my tale of the night is payment enough? Iâm not a very vibrant storyteller Iâm afraid as it can be safely summed up as: Iâm an awful chef and itâs all my fault.â
âAnd the more reckless.â he said and smiled, knowing a lot of youngsters had a certain disregard for their safety, and others. Though he didnât class himself as you, nor did he class Ignis as young, at least, not at heart, he was very much like a grumpy old man at times. Though the vampire would find that out for himself.
So the vampire was the guilty party wen it came to the apartment building fire. He now had to just find out whether heâd invited an arsonist to his home or a klutz. He wasnât sure which heâd prefer with quite a few ancient artefacts laying around, he just hoped Sterling didnât have permanent butter fingers. âClumsy then? I thought a vampires reactions would of been quick enough to compensate for such a thing, interesting that theyâre not.â He said with a small smile.
Lucius didnât mind waiting, he played with a little paper bag someone had left with litter, making it dance around on the floor before he saw the vampire return and the bag fell to the floor as he looked to him with a nod. âYouâre very welcome. I entertained myself, and you werenât gone too long.â he replied, hoping he wasnât going to keep getting apologies when none were owed. It seemed like the vampire was overly polite, but it was better than him being rude.
âWhat would you prefer to give me?â he asked, teasing the other man and giving him a small wink âI require no payment for such a thing, itâs a night, perhaps two, till you find somewhere decent.â he said and smiled to him as he started to walk again, leading the way to his home.
When they got to the store, he smiled to vampire âThis is my store, De Lune, if youâre ever in need of skin or beauty products, feel free to pop in and see me.â he said, leading them to his apartment building on the next block from the store, and he opened the door, pressing the button for the lift. âIâm going to presume you donât have a problem with heights as you live in an apartment block yourself? I prefer to be higher up.â Which was why the elevator took them all the way to the top, letting the other man in to his home with a smile. âOne of the sofaâs pulls out in to a bed, but thatâs the best I can do Iâm afraid.â
