HYUSE! Thank you for asking! First, here’s the post this ask is referring to.

Now for the trigger warnings: medical trauma, medical + biological torture, suicidal tendencies

It’s a really dark fic but not in a continuous gore sort of way but the inciting incident is essentially canon-specific torture so if you would prefer not to read about that, please look away.

Three years after the first public, successful Away Mission, a gate opens in Mikado City. Out stumbles Hyuse, his horns crooked and one of his eyes blood red.

In my fic, Hyuse had stayed behind on Aftokrator, helping his feudal lord to not become the planet’s new god. But the tenuous situation doesn’t last and the House of Erin becomes political enemies and Hyuse in particular is branded a traitor for helping Border and Meeden.

By ‘agreement’, most of the fallout is pinned on Hyuse so he takes the bulk of the guilt in order to keep House Erin from being completely wiped out. He’s executed to death, a slow one — the roots of his horns are shifted into his brain

As an act of mercy, his lord uses what little power he has left to send Hyuse to Meeden so he can at least die amongst people that care about him instead of in the Erin Estate (where the results of what they’ve done lives with them and people who allowed it to happen surround him)

Hyuse at this point is extremely passively suicidal and the pain in his body is beginning to take a toll. Both Tamakoma squads (and Hyuse’s other friends + Really all of Border) are invested in saving his life but he doesn’t care enough to stop them.

He’s dedicated his life to his lord, he did everything he was raised and trained and taught to and somewhere, despite his surface cynicism, he’d truly believed it would all turn out ok. It was a belief for a child. Your life is subject to other people, people can decide you’ve meant nothing. In fact, they might never even see you.

Anyways, this fic is really about Hyuse learning how to live again but this time for himself because he’s never had the chance to. It’s hard to square worthlessness against people willing to travel through another dimension for you.

okay but what is going on with f1 drivers lately… everyone’s acting like they’re lowkey in love with george russell 😭

max called george very beautiful during pre-race media, in front of everyone like it was no big deal??lewis took a picture of george during the driver parade using a HAAS camera—like he didn’t even care it was from another team, he just HAD to take the shot. and then he posted it on twitter. I’M LOSING IT. and of course, during the national anthem… oscar was right there next to george, holding the umbrella. as always.

Uncharted by Bolts_of_nice [oneshot] -> a Sci-Fi AU where Max and George crash land on a mysterious planet and have to work through their mutual dislike in order to survive. This story made me cry multiple times - the characterization is beautiful and so is the writing.

hot n cold by levivi [oneshot] -> Max and George have been dating for over a year, only - Max doesn't really seem aware of the fact. All he knows is that although George is insanely high maintenance, he's willing to give him anything if it means they keep seeing each other. This author is fantastic and has such beautiful prose and dialogue. The emotions feel so vivid and real, and there's a great balance of humor and feelings in this story.

rules of divorce by levivi [oneshot] -> an AU where George is a model and Max is still an F1 driver, and the two of them slowly reconcile after their divorce. Kimi is their son in this story. Wonderfully written, extremely emotional and real. The sequel is also just as gorgeous, narrated by Kimi.

you stayed with me like glass between my teeth by @thespiresleeps [oneshot] -> a beautiful, heartbreaking tale of George and Max finding each other over and over again in different lifetimes. This story has my whole heart. The writing is gorgeous, vivid and original, as is the concept itself. It made me cry like a baby, it feels like reading an ancient myth or something prophetic.

and though You hung up long ago (I never finish our talks) by @thespiresleeps [oneshot] -> George and Max navigating their conflicting feelings between Vegas 24 and Monza 25. A story about the many things unspoken between them. One of my Gax!Bible fics when it comes to their dynamic, beautifully written, a manifesto of yearning and of missed opportunities that become more haunting than the things that did happen.

careful, this one bites and in the eye of the beholder by @corioliseffect [oneshots] -> two snippets of Max and George post Canada and Austria '25. They gravitate toward each other until they collide, in more ways than one. Gorgeous writing. George and Max feel incredibly alive in these two stories, as they are perfectly captured in all their flaws and quirks.

he knew me by heart; it infuriated me that he knew me by heart by @surrealica [series] -> a character study of George and Max jumping back and forth from their karting days to their messy, entangled present. Insane character study and relationship study written in flawless, gut wrenching prose. Both fics in the series shook me to my core, and I'm eagerly waiting for more.

Soften the Edges by Liketheconstellation [series] -> a series of oneshots focused on George and Max being soft with each other as their relationships becomes more and more established and they work through the nooks and crevices of it. Sometimes a girlie needs some soft!Gax and this is my favorite iteration of them like this. The series is also continuing, so I can't wait for more. I love that we see them grow closer with each instalment.

Modern Vampire AU by Pommesfreundin [series] -> an AU where everything is the same except some of the drivers happen to be non-humans, and George is a vampire. Max grows more and more fascinated by George and his vampirism, and asks George to teach him about it. Hot, funny, and everything in between. I love the characterization of vampire!George and I love dumbass human Max even more. This series is absolutely delicious. We don't have enough vampire!George in this world!

sunburn by @cadillacjohnf1 [oneshot] -> George and Max go on holiday together during the summer break. They seem to have pretty different ideas about the status of their situationship. This was insanely funny and surprisingly touching at times, both Max and George are absolutely endearing in it while also being two complete idiots.

There are so many more fics I want to rec, but I didn't want this post to become too long to actually read, so I'll compile a second part soon. Let me just say the Gax community is blessed with some truly amazing writers! I'll be back with more as I have many more fics bookmarked that I want to recommend :)
