Murakami! Its a short one but i thought this fit him. Love the trauma brought on by SE’s, even those that aren’t directly harmful to the person who has them.
I would consider Jin’s SE to cause direct harm, or harm from internal factors, more than external, because well, future vision. Seeing all the bad shit that could happen to you and the people around you isn’t exactly good on the mental health, and its placed an insane burden on him. (though SE’s are inherently neutral/without morality/indifferent—or whatever i cant remember the exact word i want.)
But murakami’s SE doesn’t particularly burden him or have any negative effects in its direct usage, like Jin and Yuma’s, It’s one of the SE’s thats easier on the owner while still being extremely strong. But it inevitably caused discourse and trauma for Murakami, because it was “different”, people got upset and weirded out by how quickly he was learning and improving, and it always ended in him getting pushed away and isolated. Which, might i add, his fast learning is only a little different than people with “talent”. I’d say that this is more of an indirect effect of his SE since it was how people reacted to it, not it itself. And thats fun. SE’s can cause a lot of problems for those who have them, whether because of the operations of the SE itself or external factors like how people react to the perceived difference & strangeness, and the lack of accommodations or what not if they’re needed. Since they aren’t a known fact in Meeden, It’s pretty interesting to explore how people not in the know(pretty much everyone)think about and react to people with SE’s, because everyone knows how the general population can get with people that are different from the norm, and how thats affected them.
Were there any situations that were just too loud for kikuchihara when he was younger? Where he, being a child experiencing harsh & probably overstimulating noises, far past what children usually bear, reacted badly and was told to stop being overdramatic? To stop causing a scene? Were his hands ever pulled away from his ears because the people around him just didn’t get it, and thought he just had to get used to it? Any reactivity to noise that was beyond normal children can easily be looked at badly, not to mention the possibility of him overhearing things he shouldn’t have been able to, not knowing he shouldn’t talk about it and accidentally mentioning or spreading it around, therefore getting in trouble?
What about Jin, who saw things that nobody else did, who would’ve been looked at like a liar or someone with mental issues(at worst)if he talked about them—which he inevitably did, its not like he’d know to hide it until later—or even a complete freak(to peers)because often what he claimed he saw did happen? I could also see him getting blamed for some of the things that happened, if it was technically within possibility, because he said them and wanted to freak people out by “making it come true”. That possibility kinda pales in comparison to the feeling of never being believed that I’m sure he had to go through, and that was probably made all the more painful if he saw something negative—harmful even—in someones future and he couldn’t prevent it because nobody would listen to him. His SE would split his attention between the present and future too, which he wouldn’t be able to avoid when he was younger and still learning to tune it out as he started to be around more and more people, so he’d probably miss the present often and appear zoned out/disassociated. How isolating would that feel, before he met the people of old border?
And kageura?? He would be in constant pain or at least uncomfortable because of something nobody else experienced or understood. I can see him crying far more than usual as a baby, to the point it got doctors and his family concerned about health issues only for nothing to come up and for Kage to still be crying because of all the pinpricks of emotions—though iirc the worse the emotion, the worse it felt, so conversely, the better the emotion the less it hurts, so it would be cute if baby kage was soothed somewhat by his families emotions, when they weren’t worrying about him, because they felt softer and nicer than all the other ones he was subjected to—and it’d just get worse as he got older. From what we know of them, kage’s family is pretty good, so they’d definitely worry about him because of that mysterious thing that caused him pain(while also not fully understanding what he was talking about every time he tried to explain it, 1 bc he wouldnt have the vocabulary and understanding to properly explain and 2 bc that kind of thing has never been heard kf before)and that also… probably wouldnt be good for kage, even if the concern is touching. Kage’s SE is very painful, and only really useful in combat. Though, i guess knowing peoples intentions towards you can be helpful in daily life too, for avoiding bad situations like bullying. Which would probably result because of his weirdness, before he started to be avoided cuz of his reactivity.
Well this spiraled from the original 17 second edit. SE’s are just too interesting though… i generally only think in canon to canon compliment but i guess this probably all falls under compliment?? Cough anyways
My ORIGINAL unrelated thought was that i feel like Murakami and Hyuse would get along. I mean cmon they both care about protecting and serving someone above them(hyuses lord and kuruma, Murakami’s captain)even to their own detriment or disadvantage in battle. Hyuse could relate to the feeling and even like that trait of Murakami’s, whereas some others would think its stupid because he’d win more if he didnt focus so heavily on protecting his captain or whatever. Also i just think their personalities would mesh nicely. Not in a shipping way ofc or even a fully friend way given Hyuse is a part of it, but i think they’d get along.
