Some days this me (minus the dress, pant all the way for me)
We need to see more tweets like this!Â
Letâs flood social media with women of science, technology, engineering and math
Lets talk about the age difference here. Not only is the cartoon character depicted as an old woman and the actress cast to play her is very young, the character of Mrs. Grundy on the new TV show Riverdale serves the purpose of a love interest for her student.Â
Itâs acts like these that can start to change the patriarchy that is rampant in our society. Zendaya is demonstrating call out culture in the most obvious way and in her case, the media listened!Â

ObservationÂ
This was found on People Magazineâs snap chat story the other day. Shocking how prominent ageism is in simple everyday articles.Â

It is interesting to see the difference in the marketing of the two products, made by the same company, that seem to have similar purposes. Discussing the ârapid fat burning catalystâ marketed to women first, it is easy to see through the use of colour that they are using more soft, clean, natural looking colours on the packaging. Compared to the menâs âfat burning catalystâ that uses harsh, deep, âmasculineâ colours, the female product almost looks as if it is for a completely different purpose than the maleâs. It is also interesting that the womanâs nipple in the photo has clearly been edited out so that her boobs appear âmore appropriateâ to the public and the consumer. The womenâs product also has her face included where in the male version it has been cropped off. The words used to market the product based on gender are also interesting. The female marketed product is called âRapidcuts Femmeâ and the male marketed product is called âRapidcuts Shreddedâ. The word âshreddedâ is very violent sounding and is clearly being associated with hyper-masculine ideas. The word âfemmeâ obviously is stemming from âfemaleâ but it sounds very soft and delicate. Also I would like to add that both of the people of the box are white, further suggesting that being white is another aspect of the âperfect bodyâ. Lastly, the product marketed to women suggests that women need to be thin and toned to be considered attractive and the product marketed to men suggests that men need six-pack abs to be considered attractive. This goes to show that men may not feel masculine enough if they donât have muscles and that women may not feel feminine enough if they do.Â
This one example goes to show just how strong and restricting gender stereotypes are. Not only do these two images exclude poc, they are harmful to both males and females.Â

New shows portraying high school life are popular among high school students and adults alike but are these programs toxic for teenagers? Shows like Riverdale or 13 Reasons Why are written to give teenagers social ques through culture. The writers aim to create characters that teens can relate to but at the same time these characters provide an image of âperfectionâ that teens are supposed to buy into and even aspire to. Most of these âaspirationsâ seem to be rooted in complete unattainable fiction. One of the most present falsehoods relates to age. Often the actors and actresses casted to play high school students are adults. These actors not only serve as role models for young viewers, but are the epitome of unrealistic beauty standards. Being years older than the age they are portraying, it is no wonder the cast members have much more developed muscles and bodies than the actual teens who watch the show. And as if the age gap wasnât enough to have a visible difference in appearance, the cast members have Hollywood perfect hair, skin, and clothing. Young viewers are then left to feel self conscious about themselves in contrast to the mature âteenageâ celebrities they watch on Netflix. To show the difference between T.V. standards and reality I have photographed some real 15 and 16 year-old students to compare them to the characters on Riverdale.Â

Observation.
At Wal-Mart, these two products were priced the exact same. However, the male product has 5 more pills than the female one. If the products were priced per pill, the package on the left should actually be priced at $11.99 for 30 pills.
The most shocking discovery was when we looked at the back of these two products, at the ingredient list. From what we could tell, the ingredients were identical. We were no medical experts, so we decided to take it to the pharmasict.Â
The pharmacist clarified that these two products were identical. No special ingredients in either package. Both had the exact same ingredients.Â
How many unaware women fell into this scam? The same product for a dramatically different price. Â This is a disgusting method for companies to target a specific demographic.
Ladies, watch what you are spending on products, even on laxatives apparently.Â
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Young girls may use laxatives as an unhealthy way to lose weight, to fit into the social norm or have societyâs âidealâ body image. This is so unsafe because people do not receive the proper nutrients from their food, and could become malnourished.Â
This photo was found on Facebook. The person who posted it compared the size difference two pairs of American Eagle jeans. The person who posted this wrote:Â
"In this photo are two of my favorite pair of jeans. The pair in the back I bought when I was in 9th grade (5 years ago). They are a size 0. The pair in the front I bought just a few months ago. They are a size 4. I will admit, when I went into American Eagle and realized I had gone up 2 sizes, I was a little disheartened. So, when I got home I compared my new jeans to my old ones and was just sickened when I discovered my new jeans were the same in size, if not slightly smaller, than the pair I had boughten 5 years ago. This made me wonder, how small has a size 0 actually gotten? The media makes young girls feel the smaller number they wear, the more beautiful they are, and this is certainly NOT true. I post this as a reminder that size is literally just a number and does not define you. Find clothes that make you feel comfortable and confident, and know your beauty is not defined by the size you wear."
This example is how capitalist, profit-producing companies, such as American Eagle, can influence how girls feel about their bodies, and how standards have changed over the past few years regarding size.
5 yearsâ difference. 2 sizes different. Infinite difference on personal self-worth.
