Chapter 4: That Was Surprisingly Not Tense At All
Twilight, Wild, Hyrule, and I went down the staircase to the main floor where everyone else was gathered. All the while, I tried my hardest not have yet another panic attack. The conversation about what the Chain should do with me hasn’t even started yet, but I’m already getting all nerved up. I was really expecting this conversation to be real tense, mostly for me though. The heroes are all nice guys in their own ways, so maybe this’ll be a calm and pleasant instead. But one of them or I will probably say the wrong thing, and that’ll start a big fight…
Wild led me to his big table, motioning for me to sit down at the table. Everyone else was either standing by the table or already seated in a wooden chair. He then meandered off to a counter, working on kindling the fire for his brick oven. A minute or two later, I heard wood crackling from a lit fire. Sounds like he was successful. I saw him unclasp his Sheikah Slate from his belt, most likely looking through his stock of supplies in it.
I shakily sat myself down on an unoccupied chair, one that was furthest away from everyone else. I buried my face into my hands, trying to get myself to relax so my stomach would stop twisting. I could sense that everyone except Wild was staring at me, most likely concerned glances at my nervous form. I tried to ignore it because I knew that if I made eye contact with any of them, I’d get even more nervous and tense. Deep breaths, me. This upcoming conversation might not be as bad as I’m thinking it’s going to be.
Eventually the smell of cooking meat started to fill the air. It smelled like multiple kinds of meat; meat like chicken, turkey, and steak. Wild must be making meat skewers for everyone. Good, I could tolerate eating that over something like mushroom stew. Since meat usually takes a while to cook, Wild gave everyone an apple to snack on as an appetizer while the meat skewers cooked.
I was having issues gnawing into the red apple that Wild given me. Ugh, I wish I had a utility knife with me. Seeing me struggle, Legend wordlessly offered me a fruit knife. Why did he have that? Wait, I shouldn’t be surprised. He’s the hoarder of the group, so he most likely has a tool for anything and everything.
“Um, thank you.” I told him.
He must’ve heard me, but all I got was a faint nod with him, not even looking my direction. He could just be being his usual grumpy self, but maybe he picked up that I don’t like being stared at. Then it suddenly hit me, he nodded in response that me thank him! No, don’t get all excited me. He didn’t actually understand me and just nodded because he probably assumed that I said ‘thank you’ in my language.
After my brief idiotic excitement, I started cutting the red apple into slices. Hmm, he keeps this fruit knife sharp. It effortlessly cut through the apple; I had expected to struggle with cutting it with how weak I was. The sharpness of the knife had saved me from further embarrassment. I took a bite from one of the apple slices I had cut; the apple was pleasantly crisp and juicy. Still not as good as a green apple though…
Just as everyone had finished their apples, the meat for the skewers were done cooking. Wild got ceramic plates from a cabinet and set one plate down in front of each person. I’m surprised he had enough plates since he technically lived alone in his house. With the plates given out, he then got wooden picks from a drawer and started skewering the bits of meat deftly. He did it in groups of three; he get three picks covered in meat and then put it on a person’s plate. About five minutes later, everyone now had a serving of three meat skewers on their plates.
“⚐︎🙵♋︎⍓︎📪︎ ♏︎❖︎♏︎❒︎⍓︎□︎■︎♏︎✏︎ 👎︎♓︎♑︎ ♓︎■︎✏︎” Wild called out.
Seeing as everyone started eating, he must’ve told everyone to dig in. I bit into the meat chunk near the top, tearing off a bite with my teeth. Mmm, delicious! Wild cooked this perfectly! It was perfectly seared to the level of meat grilling I preferred.
A good thirty minutes later, everyone finished eating the meat. Everyone now had satisfied stomachs and left their plates clean. Wild took everyone’s plates and began washing them. He dried them off with a towel and then put them back in the cabinet once they were dried enough. He threw the wooden skewers into a trash bin.
Wild then sat back down now that he was done with clean up. Now it’s time for the ‘what to do with Y/N’ conversation. Oh dear, this is not going to be fun. I could already feel my anxiety returning and my stomach twisting the digesting meat. I better not throw it up, it was really good.

Before I could ask, Twilight translated for me. “So, miss. Ya never answeredeth one of our questions. Doth thou knowest how to fight or defendeth thyself?”
“N-no, I don’t. I-I never needed to learn how.” I shakily replied.
Please don’t hate me. Please don’t judge me. I’ve never had to worry about fighting for my life against monsters like they had. In a way, I had it easy compared to them. I’m not going to cry in front of them.
I could hear them talking amongst themselves, but I wasn’t listening to them. They don’t have the time to train me. They’ve got monsters to worry about, it’s more important than some loser Link fan like me. It’d be easier to just leave me here in Hateno Village. Surely I could eventually learn Wild’s Hylian and eventually learn how to do more useful things. And hopefully I can find a way back to my world and home.

“It is perfectly fineth that thou never had ta learn howeth to fight or defendth thyself. We’re honestly jealous of thee.” Twilight translated.

“Though we don’t haveth much time ta spare, but we all couldeth teach thee howeth to do both.” Twilight translated again.

“It’d do ya some goodeth to learn from each of us. It’ll help thou be more diverse in thine fighting skills and it’ll helpeth thee in the long run.” Twilight translated yet again.
“Why are you all being so nice to me? Wouldn’t it be easier for you all to leave a burden like me here?” I asked.
“We wouldn’t be heroes if we lefteth an innocent civilian like thou to potential dangers.” Twilight replied.
“So you feel obligated to do so because you’re a hero.” I said bitterly. “Hero’s code or whatever aside, do you and the others truly wish to help me? You all know that I’d just slow you guys down in a multitude of ways.”
“We do wanteth to help thou! All of us likedeth to help people, even beforeth becoming heroes.” Twilight answered.
“There is one important thing we should to help me with first. Finding a way so I can understand everyone without you having to play translator for both sides. Do you have any ideas as to what could possibly help?” I brought up.
Twilight relayed that to the others, which caused Wild to speak up. “🕈︎♏︎ ♍︎□︎◆︎●︎♎︎ ♋︎⬧︎🙵 🏱︎◆︎❒︎♋︎♒︎ ♐︎□︎❒︎ ♋︎⬧︎⬧︎♓︎⬧︎⧫︎♋︎■︎♍︎♏︎ ♓︎■︎ ❍︎♋︎🙵♓︎■︎♑︎ ♋︎ ⧫︎❒︎♋︎■︎⬧︎●︎♋︎⧫︎♓︎□︎■︎ ♎︎♏︎❖︎♓︎♍︎♏︎📬︎ 🕈︎♏︎ ♍︎□︎◆︎●︎♎︎ ♋︎⬧︎🙵 ☼︎□︎♌︎♌︎♓︎♏︎ ♋︎♌︎□︎◆︎⧫︎ ♓︎⧫︎ ⧫︎□︎□︎📬︎ 💣︎♋︎⍓︎♌︎♏︎ ✋︎❍︎◻︎♋︎ □︎❒︎ ♋︎■︎⍓︎ □︎⧫︎♒︎♏︎❒︎ 💧︎♒︎♏︎♓︎🙵♋︎♒︎ 🙵■︎□︎⬥︎⬧︎ ⬧︎□︎❍︎♏︎ ❒︎♏︎♍︎♓︎◻︎♏︎ □︎❒︎ ⬧︎◻︎♏︎●︎●︎ ⧫︎♒︎♋︎⧫︎❼︎♎︎ ⬥︎□︎❒︎🙵📬︎”
“Shorteth version of whateth the Champion said is that we could asketh the Sheikah Tribe for assistance. Maybe a translation device couldeth be made. Maybe they knoweth of a recipe or a spell that doeseth the same thing.” Twilight summarized.
“I guess that’s a good enough thing to start with…” I replied.
Hopefully they can make a device quickly and effortlessly. Hopefully a spell is easy enough to preform. Hopefully the recipe is easy enough to follow, easy enough to get the materials, and isn’t time consuming. But knowing my awful luck, nothing would be simple and nothing would go right.
To be continued…
