It's All Just Really Delicate

so for the last week or so, me and @79-swiftie (and her co-worker) have been mulling over something and we just can’t keep it to ourselves any more. thought we might share.

she and i started talking about one of the central reoccurring and fleshed out themes of the rep era: illusion. and… fragments. i think these two themes—motifs, if you will—need no introduction, but just to share a few key visual points

the rep era CD skin

the recent elle magazine photoshoot (because of photo limit i’ll just post one but you know there were a few)

this thing kimby posted one time

that business. y’know.

actually there are a few taymoji that relate to this but in the interest of time and because i have maxed out in photos, i’ll save it for another time.

and then also, taylor goes sending us this enigma of faces hidden in gemstones 💎 many pieces and facets.

those are all basically fragment-related but today, i would like to talk about optical illusion and this picture:

has this photo ever looked… unsettling, to you? something, uncanny? persay?

well, @79-swiftie and her coworker, who had recently gotten their hands on a copy of the rep era magazines, pored over them and noticed that this above photo has a curious focus placed on it. the cover of Volume 2 spends a lot of space featuring the number 72. on page 72 of the magazine?

that photo. it also happens to be the photo cut up and rearranged on the CD.

so our two heroes noticed this, thought about some of the above fragment motifs, and decided to get crafty. specifically, they photocopied the CD image and reconstructed it like a puzzle. and in the process of putting the pieces together, they had a sort of epiphany.

midway, they saw something:

tell me what you see in this photo. i’ll wait.

here’s a hint…try putting your hand over the left side of the photo. yes.

now scroll back up and look at the full pic again.

uh huh.

we see Karlie. specifically, her eyes, her cheekbone, forehead area… but moreover, it suddenly felt like her.

naturally 😂 we have spent the past week looking for a perfect match (because while murders have been sentenced for life on solely circumstantial evidence, kaylors have to be 113% correct for it to be worth consideration) and with some uncanny valley results. interestingly, her face matches up much easier if you mirror the photo and use the right side of her face/left side of the photo flipped. give it a try! it’s suuuuper eerie.

i’m not sure if the goal is to find an existent photo (they could have easily taken a private photo of karlie specifically for use), but, in our quest, the other day i felt particularly teased by karlie’s latest Klossy video and i thought i’d share the result because frankly it took me out of commission just now.

simple really. you just uh,

take out the saturation,

pop it in.

and *boop*

how cool is that?

no this isn’t the exact photo.

but my dudes. it works.

i assume it’s an unsolvable for us. frankly, i don’t think taylor wanted it an undeniable discoverable thing. like many other elements of the rep tour, people who want to see it will. others can choose not to. that’s the power of our illusionist.

swarovski (of which karlie is the brand ambassador) released a fall collection full of eyes (and spades as well! and dice and keys and swallows that look an awful lot like swifts) — and hands too!! the hand reminds me of karlie’s hand being in the YNTCD promo ☺️

i made a sort of lengthy response to a great post in which i brought together a bunch of images to illustrate that taylor and karlie have a general consistency with which eyes they hide through their media output.

so here’s a rundown of new images.

i noticed that back in november 2017, the new yorker review of reputation included this commissioned artwork:

quentin jones, the art director and photographer that did taylor’s Elle UK photo shoot this year, continued her penchants for collage with this new image of *karlie kloss herself* — even tagging the eye as karlie!

karlie did her last vogue cover of the year for vogue españa, which included this eyeconic portrait:

karlie also did a holiday gift rec for StockX, where she doubled down on the eye blocking

then karlie and her team threw a dinner party with/for? the wishi app team, and karlie got her right ear pierced….

with an evil eye stud 😭

hey twitter swiftie, i’ll be excited to get clarity on this as well 😂

karlie’s team posted this on the way back from the party. can’t help but giggle a bit

and taylor doubled down on her Lover remix by releasing another lyric video. another beautiful piece of art for her canon: “look in my eyes they will tell you the truth / the girl in my story has always been you”

we got the cross promo with the snowglobe, further tying you are in love’s “you two are dancing in a snowglobe round and round” to dancing with our hands tied’s “baby can we dance through an avalanche” to the lover song. which, as all kaylors know, brings us to this:

taylor’s piano at the AMAS included three song titles amongst the album titles. including Eyes Open!!

not only that, she liked a post by someone pointing out it’s an easter egg

first, an addendum to the piano clue, it turns out that three of the song titles were arranged so that this happens: Me! to the left of the piano (from the perspective of the viewer), Ours and Eyes Open to the right.

mert alas, of mert and marcus, the guy who did the eye theory photo *in question* posted this: (by the way the bandana, custom made for lily aldridge’s perfume line, has an eyeball hidden in the pattern 🤷🏻‍♀️)

karlie continued to flaunt her eye ear piercing (note how she curls her hair over the ear pierced (note how the image is flipped as you can tell from the beauty mark)

taylor did some eyesolation in here people mag photos, and there’s a rainbow halo over her eye

antoni posted this around turkey day, of which he spent time with taylor. also one of the visuals posted leading up to camilla’s new album was quite thematically cohesive… and the artist that directed the lover album visuals, valeria rocha, also posted some thematically cohesive eyeball stuff (not that this is proof but i found it amusing)

harry kindly trolled us in the lead up to his album release on taylor’s birthday (still not over that)

karlie made custom hoodies for kwk and there is a big ol’ eye in the middle of the design (confirmable as an eye if you check the designer’s portfolio and see how she draws those kinds of eyes throughout her work)

the CATS themed episode of project runway showed eye accessories on the accessory wall, and (coincidental, i know) one of the contestant says “all eyes on me” during a cut away which 😘👌 must have been a delight to run into while editing in post

also did you all notice that in her woman of the decade speech taylor listed “my album designs” as one of the things that is hers and shouldn’t be owned by others 😂

and uh, taylor just posted this today… once again showing to me that they both are still up for pushing this whole deal 😂 so with these periodic updates i will continue🥰

i came to the realization that in the rep tour movie, there’s an x to the right side of the split screen during Getaway Car and i did a little googling and discovered that a gal pal of bonnie and clyde got her left eye taken out by glass during a getaway in missouri which 👀 make of it what you will but lmao i love finding these wrinkles in time:

karlie’s klossy vlog of the above estée lauder campaign for some reason didn’t have an i (“eye”, get it? 😂) in “with” in the title

kristine was on a tear on her insta! also project runway leaned in a bit with the “all eyes on” bit

swarovski (of which karlie is the brand ambassador) released a fall collection full of eyes (and spades as well! and dice and keys and swallows that look an awful lot like swifts) — and hands too!! the hand reminds me of karlie’s hand being in the YNTCD promo ☺️

look at their commercial too! there’s a wink with a heart on taylor’s side eye, like the lover album cover 😍

karlie was on the cover of entrepreneur magazine! look at her photoshoot! “ready for battle” sounds sort of like “ready for combat” and she’s doing a knockout pose as well

i noticed that You’re So Vain (a carly simon song both girls love) had eye lyrics in it all along

taylor wore a suit that was half a different fabric.. gold… on karlie’s side… and then she did the hand over her missing eye pose!

then she goes on SNL and suffice it to say i feel positively called out 😂

she was even two big eyes for halloween

she released an adidas promo that was basically a pun on “i wanna be your A team”

on the mama side of the equation, i noticed that taylor did this during her lovers lounge album release promo

in more recent news, her alibaba promo live getup was basically an homage to the rep CD

personally i spy an eye.. but that’s just me 😜

there were a few eye things going on as well in her promo video for this documentary she’s doing for apple music…? is that what it is? most notably this:

and then on november 13th, kaylor anniversary day, taylor releases a remix of lover that changes the lyrics “my hearts been borrowed and yours has been blue, alls well that ends well to end up with you” with “look in my eyes they will tell you the truth, the girl in my story has always been you”

okay without further ado.. more stuff:

i made a sort of lengthy response to a great post in which i brought together a bunch of images to illustrate that taylor and karlie have a general consistency with which eyes they hide through their media output.

so here’s a rundown of new images.

i noticed that back in november 2017, the new yorker review of reputation included this commissioned artwork:

quentin jones, the art director and photographer that did taylor’s Elle UK photo shoot this year, continued her penchants for collage with this new image of *karlie kloss herself* — even tagging the eye as karlie!

karlie did her last vogue cover of the year for vogue españa, which included this eyeconic portrait:

karlie also did a holiday gift rec for StockX, where she doubled down on the eye blocking

then karlie and her team threw a dinner party with/for? the wishi app team, and karlie got her right ear pierced….

with an evil eye stud 😭

hey twitter swiftie, i’ll be excited to get clarity on this as well 😂

karlie’s team posted this on the way back from the party. can’t help but giggle a bit

and taylor doubled down on her Lover remix by releasing another lyric video. another beautiful piece of art for her canon: “look in my eyes they will tell you the truth / the girl in my story has always been you”

we got the cross promo with the snowglobe, further tying you are in love’s “you two are dancing in a snowglobe round and round” to dancing with our hands tied’s “baby can we dance through an avalanche” to the lover song. which, as all kaylors know, brings us to this:

taylor’s piano at the AMAS included three song titles amongst the album titles. including Eyes Open!!

not only that, she liked a post by someone pointing out it’s an easter egg

here’s a look at the next crop of things to happen

first, an addendum to the piano clue, it turns out that three of the song titles were arranged so that this happens: Me! to the left of the piano (from the perspective of the viewer), Ours and Eyes Open to the right.

mert alas, of mert and marcus, the guy who did the eye theory photo *in question* posted this: (by the way the bandana, custom made for lily aldridge’s perfume line, has an eyeball hidden in the pattern 🤷🏻‍♀️)

karlie continued to flaunt her eye ear piercing (note how she curls her hair over the ear pierced (note how the image is flipped as you can tell from the beauty mark)

taylor did some eyesolation in here people mag photos, and there’s a rainbow halo over her eye

antoni posted this around turkey day, of which he spent time with taylor. also one of the visuals posted leading up to camilla’s new album was quite thematically cohesive… and the artist that directed the lover album visuals, valeria rocha, also posted some thematically cohesive eyeball stuff (not that this is proof but i found it amusing)

harry kindly trolled us in the lead up to his album release on taylor’s birthday (still not over that)

karlie made custom hoodies for kwk and there is a big ol’ eye in the middle of the design (confirmable as an eye if you check the designer’s portfolio and see how she draws those kinds of eyes throughout her work)

the CATS themed episode of project runway showed eye accessories on the accessory wall, and (coincidental, i know) one of the contestant says “all eyes on me” during a cut away which 😘👌 must have been a delight to run into while editing in post

also did you all notice that in her woman of the decade speech taylor listed “my album designs” as one of the things that is hers and shouldn’t be owned by others 😂

and uh, taylor just posted this today… once again showing to me that they both are still up for pushing this whole deal 😂 so with these periodic updates i will continue🥰

i *really* truly thought the shenanigans were gonna stop after the turn of the new year

when karlie walked in Jean Paul Goultier’s *final runway show* she wore the evil eye earring! and of course, gave her signature wink

the evil eye ring made two appearances (that i could find so far) the rep room taylor eye pillow got a few glorious seconds, and coincidentally these were some recs on the laptop screen when they are celebrating lover release! also i’m sorry i’m not saying it *means* anything but there’s this eye-like piece of art on the shelf when she’s singing king of my heart on the piano 😂

i came to the realization that in the rep tour movie, there’s an x to the right side of the split screen during Getaway Car and i did a little googling and discovered that a gal pal of bonnie and clyde got her left eye taken out by glass during a getaway in missouri which 👀 make of it what you will but lmao i love finding these wrinkles in time:

despite all my inclinations that the eye theory would be put to bed upon the one year anniversary on april 18th, here are the particularly grabbing moments that happened between may 2020 and now 🥴 (january to april is already included in real time above)

★ and just said “my eye” really notably in a klossy promo video for estée lauder, albeit, yes babydolls i knoww these are the ones that bother you so please hold out to a few months later when there’s an example of when she’s a little more blatant

i had a lot of fun with eye puns in the lyrics as well as googling unique phrases in the lyrics of the folklore album and finding eye theory content at every turn.

☆ taylor put out a behind the scenes video for the cardigan mv where it mentioned she has added in CG day-of release on a music video before and i talked a bit about the potential implications of it for the eye theory

★ hot new avatar robot on the scene, Kayda was quick to ruffle my feathers

OCTOBER

☆ we connected a few things using an old ad from karlie’s victoria’s secret modeling days and the lwymmd video, pertaining to a tie with a hole cut out of it. i think this one is nuts!! like, why else have a tie with a hole in it?? please read 🙈 i can’t get over this

★ kayda’s introduction included an “👀 spy” caption

-kayda got an instagram page and in the tagged page was a pic of a one eyed zombie… from a bay area emo band that has a weird right eye fixation in their artwork. because of course there is.

-i mused about how kayda only has one eye really

★ in promotion for adidas karlie wore a top that had an eye pattern on it

NOVEMBER

★ i know i know winks don’t count i know but our girls winked noticeably and i’m gonna say so

-someone running the socials for capital one made my day

★ taylor was being funny during the long pond sessions

- the rep album photoshoot guys did a collab with stella mccartney and it was a huge letter M (for mert and marcus) made out of eyeballs

DECEMBER

karlie started off the month strong by releasing her prized adidas collection!

★ which included this weird robot eye promo

★ and one of her models had an eye tattoo…???

★ i don’t know if we will get a better look at it but karlie’s adidas photoshoot looked spectacular

the release of evermore bended the gravity of our universe to bring us some choice lyrical moments 🥴

-“with your hair falling into place like dominoes” pairs well with “and all the pieces fall right into place”— as in, karlie’s bangs perfectly covering The Eye 😂

- had some fun with “long story short it was the wrong eye” ( taylor punctuated this long story short business with her spotify visuals 😘)

- this one is kind of silly but victoria’s secret released a line of eye pencils in 2014 with a color option named “gold rush”

-the haim sisters inadvertently knocked me out

-i think… i think there’s an eye patch on christian’s jacket in the lover mv??

-this is a self aggrandizing moment but over the summer i had just bought and promoted a piece of opal eye jewelry from my dear friend @theprologues ‘s shop!! and then months later we get the ivy lyrics ☺️

★ Taylor released Opal Eye earrings on her birthday! 🥳 and a ring with two differently sized “eyes” (reminded me of this 🤪) . a lovely person pointed out that the aforementioned tattooed lady from karlie’s adidas line not only had an eye tattoo, but also a star tattoo that looks just like this earrings. How Do These Things Happen

so there you have it fam! despite a global pandemic, despite the world acrumbling like a gluten free cookie in a tropical climate, we got stuff from both of them 🥴

i said this at the beginning of 2020 but surely nothing of real heft will happen in this new year, right?? cuz this sleepytown is on the cusp of hibernation and who wants to wake up bears!?
