When I say that I’m glad that you stepped into my life, even if you stepped out of it again, I don’t mean that getting over you was easy. Getting over you was probably the hardest thing I ever had to do; and at first, it sure felt like you did more damage than you did good. But you made me learn to never give this much of myself to anyone ever again, and that I’m worth more than crying over someone who didn’t choose to stay. So yes, you did leave me damaged. But because of you I also learned how to heal.

I’d rather walk away than wait for you to hurt me.

I remember one night when I asked if we could stay in each other’s lives for as long as possible. We weren’t a forever and we both knew it but it was a nice thought. I remember I made you promise that we would stay friends no matter what happened. I was naive to believe that was possible. I ended up being the one to break that promise. You love someone for so long as one thing you can’t rewire your heart to love them as something else. Because the sad truth is friends can become lovers but lovers can never become friends. Someone is always still in love with the other.

You were not my source of living. I never needed you to survive and I still don’t. You were not my source of oxygen. But the air is just a little bit thicker and sometimes I forget to breathe without you around.

The reason I am still here wondering about you, it’s because you took away part of my soul, part of heart and part of my skin and there is no way I can take them back.

Maybe it won’t matter in thirty years; maybe I won’t even remember your name. But right now, in this very moment, it matters, and it freaking hurts - and I’m still trying to be okay with that.
