What if Louisa and Spiros go on their first date, unofficial and tentative though it is (but important enough to warrant a new dress, a gesture Spiros whole-heartedly approves of):

Then Mrs H. returns to work things out with Spiros, as I have been predicting all along. BUT – and I’m basing this on Zoltan’s line: “There is love and there is family. Sometimes you can’t have both” that so clearly applies to ALL the couples featured in the preview – what if, Spiros is forced to choose between his love and his family? And the angsty hand-kiss, pictured here (in regrettably terrible quality):

is not just about him and Louisa giving up their chance at a romantic future but their friendship as well?? What if, Mrs H. has heard about Louisa and Spiros hanging out in bars and going to circuses together? It’s already been established that she’s not too pleased with him spending time with his beloved British goddess so what if part of the terms of their reconciliation is that he gives her up, friendship included?? And Spiros being Spiros, duty bound to honour his family, agrees, going to tell Louisa, who’s anticipating their relationship moving forward, that it in fact has to cease altogether? Instigating some ugly-crying on Larry’s shoulder:

There is no minimum or maximum length for your story, you can write a short one-shot or a two chapter fic - although most exchanges are usually one-shots. No prompts, no theme - we’re only calling it a Christmas exchange because it’s around Christmas time, but it doesn’t mean you have to write a Christmas themed David/Julia fic!

8th to 10th of November: Assignments sent out

7th to 8th of December: Reminder email to check on your progress

22nd of December: SUBMISSION DAY

If we send you your assignment and you aren’t able to complete it, please let us know as early as possible so we can get a pinch hitter sorted to make sure your recipient is not left without a story.

We’ll send out reminder emails about two weeks before the deadline, please reply and let us know you’ll still be posting your story. If you don’t reply within a few days, we’ll assume you’ve dropped out and get someone else to cover for you.

Submission day - all fics will be posted on AO3 to a collection - we’ll send out details on how to do that nearer the time.

Bodyguard appreciation week | day 3: favourite dynamic: David & Julia

It could only ever be them. You could remove any other dynamic from the show without fundamentally changing the plot, but the relationship between Julia and David is at the core of everything that happens and it affects both of these characters’ decisions and actions in unexpected ways throughout the series. In fact, the dynamic is so strong and pivotal that it carries the show even after Julia is gone as David struggles with his grief and continues to seek justice for her.

Day 6: Favourite on-screen pairing/partnership

LOUISA DURRELL AND SPIROS HALIKIOPOULOS // THE DURRELLS

First off, I will never be over this. We had one episode of them actually being “together” and that will forever be the saddest thing in my life. They were meant for each other. The fact that they got on so well from the start and that Spiros became Louisa’s confidant and protector is the sweetest thing. There are just so many reasons that they are right together. He held her when she needed him to, basically helped her raise her children from the minute they got to Corfu and I just can’t… 

They were the cutest. Constant angsty, pining cuteness and fluff and all I wanted was a happy ending for them both. I know in real life the Durrells moved back to England and Spiros died from pneumonia in 1940 (don’t. I’m going to pretend it was heartbreak), but I really wanted them to have their cabin with the bed not too big so that they were always touching. 

Every scene that contained these two just sizzled with chemistry and I honestly wish they had gotten together sooner so we could see just how amazing they would be as a couple. I understand why they never cause like tension and writing and viewing figures, but like I needed it.

The series 3 finale made me sob tears of joy and then tears of anguish and despair. I now hate fireworks and I can’t believe how close they got to having everything they both wanted. The moment he utters her name whilst clasping her hands as she breaks down destroys me.

As for the season 4 finale… I still haven’t fully accepted it’s over, to be honest. The cute little giggly private moments were beautiful and I fully believe that they would act like lovesick teenagers throughout the entirety of their relationship (which in my mind lasts until they are both eighty and they die in each other’s arms). That beach scene wrecked my entire soul and shattered my heart into a million pieces. The final confession of love from both of them and Louisa’s whispered ‘no’ when he says he can’t go with them - deceased. The way he holds her as she falls to the ground - deceased. The way her voice breaks when she asks what she’ll do without him and the way she basically straight up murders me when she cries “you’ll be spreading your magic and I won’t be here” is too much for me to take. So much emotion in a 3 minute sequence. I could go on and on about how much I love these two but I feel like eventually I would end up crying so much I couldn’t see and it would just be a mash of keys.
